How to explain the mystery of fame? Many once well-known people who spent much of their lives at the core of historic events have fallen into oblivion since. The brilliant East Ukrainian poet and Soviet-era dissident Vasyl Stus (1938-85) became renowned only after his reburial in late Soviet Ukraine in 1989. What are the reasons for the widespread admiration for him in post-Soviet Ukrainian society? The exceptional beauty of his poetry? His stunning courage and selflessness as a Soviet dissident? The irreconcilability of his position as a human being? Or/and Vasyl Stus' ability to feel the pain of others as his own? Trying to answer these and other questions, the poet's son and literary scholar Dmytro Stus masterfully combines a cultural and biographical study with private recollections and observations of his father. The book offers a sometimes-paradoxical merger of genres mixing academic analysis with novelistic narration. It shows Vasyl Stus through the eyes of his son and researcher against the background of twentieth-century Ukrainian "belated" emergence as a nation-state. In 2007, the Ukrainian edition of this book won Ukraine's prestigious Shevchenko National Prize.
The 2013-2014 Euromaidan Revolution's call for justice, dignity, and liberty brought Ukraine, which had 'disappeared' behind the Iron Curtain for decades after the horrors of World War II, into the world's public consciousness. Yet, the country was soon almost forgotten again. In early 2022, the rapid escalation of Putin's war on Ukraine has put the country back into the spotlight. Without knowing the country's past, one cannot understand its present. This anthology tackles the complex history of terror and violence in Ukraine - from the millionfold starvation of the Holodomor to the changing occupation regimes, from the 'Shoah by Bullets' to the Chornobyl disaster. Those ready to delve deeper into the checkered, painful history of the country will better understand Ukraine's current quest for independence, freedom, and democracy. The volume's contributors are Serhii Plokhii, Timothy D. Snyder, Anna Veronika Wendland, Anne Applebaum, Eduard Klein, Gelinada Grinchenko, Gerhard Simon, Irina Scherbakowa, Jan Claas Behrends, Karel C. Berkhoff, Kateryna Mishchenko, Klaus Wolschner, Nikolai Klimeniouk, Nikolaus von Twickel, Oksana Grytsenko, Ottmar Tra?ca, Rebecca Harms, Sebastian Christ, Sébastien Gobert, Viktoria Savchuk, Volodymyr Yermolenko, Wilfried Jilge, Christoph Brumme, and Yevhen Hlibovytsky.
In the ever-evolving landscape of startups, risks and opportunities draw in creative and entrepreneurial individuals who strive to realise their visions. While much of this occurs concealed from the gaze of the public, innovation has transformed from an enigmatic black box into a predictable and manageable process—provided one possesses the right tools and knows where to look and what actions to take. The method presented here for evaluating and managing startup risks is geared towards the uncertain world of innovative startups and enables entrepreneurs and investors to navigate it more confidently. The book introduces an agile non-cash-flow-based methodology for startup valuation, offering practitioners a holistic risk and innovativeness assessment tool enabling quantification of a startup’s potential for exponential growth throughout its lifecycle. The proposed Hypothesis Testing Method covers underlying assumptions rooted in the five primary hypotheses accounting for the lifecycle stages and potential contingencies of a startup venture. This guide will be invaluable to practitioners seeking to navigate the complexities of innovation, harnessing the potential of cutting-edge startups, and shifting the traditional capital-at-risk approach towards an opportunity-at-risk mindset, fostering a healthier investment culture and facilitating the advancement of transformative technologies.
The book is dedicated to analyze of nonpolitical aspects of the social memory actualization, the role of contemporary art in particular. It is used a notion of Public Art. Based on it is proposed a new one "public art of reminder," which is approached to actualize social memory in the urban space by means of activation people's mnemonic and creative abilities. Our empirical analyze consists in the exploration of the actual artistic projects and works of "public art of a reminder" in the Ukrainian and Russian urban spaces in general and Kharkiv one's in particular. It was carried out search, filtration, classification and critical analyze of artifacts. In addition, it was conducted the interviews with experts: people who played the role at the initiation or production of public art of a reminder in the city of Kharkiv. The results of the research include a new sociological data about character of public sphere occurred by public art works in post-Soviet cities; a level and forms of artists' activity concerning actual social problems and meaning; a way of actualization of communities' social memory and identity.

The antimicrobial properties of prodigiosin have often been questioned, particularly because of the high concentrations required for it to be effective, as these exceed the levels causing toxicity in mammalian cells. For this reason, it has been studied in greater depth for its use in anticancer and immunosuppressive therapy, than as an agent to fight infectious agents. The interest in prodigiosin as a drug is demonstrated by the number of reports in the literature from the different fields concerned, as well as by the explorations of its complexation, and encapsulation, for both drug-delivery and to enhance its activity. As of today, it is relevant to implement alternative methods of treatment of infections caused by different microorganisms and to develop combined approaches for the treatment of infectious diseases. The combined approach distinguished by the use of two or more therapies for the treatment of infectious diseases. Its advantage is the ability to overcome the individual limitations of each active substance.
