Donald Davidson has been one of the most influential figures in modern analytic philosophy and has made seminal contributions in a wide range of subjects: philosophy of language, philosophy of action, philosophy of mind, epistemology, metaphysics and the theory of rationality. His principal work, embodied in a series of landmark essays stretching over nearly 40 years, exhibits a unity rare among philosophers contributing on so many diverse fronts. Written by a distinguished team of philosophers, this volume includes chapters on truth and meaning, the philosophy of action, radical interpretation, philosophical psychology, knowledge of the external world, other minds and our own minds, and the implications of Davidson’s work for literary theory. This is the only comprehensive introduction to the full range of Davidson’s work, and as such it will be of particular value to advanced undergraduates, graduates and professionals in philosophy, psychology, linguistics, and literary theory.

Andrew Bowyer presents the first comprehensive examination of Donald MacKinnon’s theology in relation to his moral philosophy. He offers an original and creative reading of MacKinnon’s methodology, and important insights into the key influences and core questions which stood at the heart of his work. Bowyer outlines MacKinnon’s contributions to Anglican theology in the aftermath of the Second World War, highlighting the “therapeutic” nature of his approach in as far as it combined a call for intense self-awareness with a commitment to moral realism. As one of the most influential Anglican theologians in the mid-twentieth century, MacKinnon’s writings reveal him as a restive and unsystematic thinker. However, Bowyer argues that a series of reoccurring questions – ‘obsessions’ might better honour the memory of MacKinnon’s temperament –appear throughout his work, relating to the tensions between the realism and idealism, the call to be “morally serious”, the nature of theological truth claims, and the perennially disruptive presence of Christ. Bowyer examines the key influences on MacKinnon’s thought, the centrality of Christology to his project, his engagement with literature and literary criticism, as well as his response to Wittgenstein’s later philosophy. This volume offers an appreciation of his contribution and a critique of his legacy.

M.I.L.K is an acronym for Make Independent Life Knowledgeable. Freedom of speech is the corner stone of MILK. But MILK also means milk. Mother's milk: natural breast milk. The most healthy and nutritious drink for human life. It's really our first taste of something good. Perhaps, it is our first independent human action. To reach out for another human, Mom, and get life's first delicious drink. Then we grow up and most of us forget about what first made us healthy and strong. We forget about Mom's good breast milk. We start to drink crap. Eat crap. And soon, we look and feel like crap, and talk crap too. But not everyone is eating, and drinking, and talking crap. Within a series of books of Donald Trump and Voices of the 2nd American Revolution: Make Independent Life Knowledgeable, there are some very knowledgeable individuals, mostly American Voices, who know what it means to be American. To live free and be independent. Unfortunately, there are only a few good men and women in America who know their unalienable individual rights as declared in their American Constitution and Bill of Rights. But these American Voices and others want to help anyone willing to listen. Some have already died trying to get the Word out. But many other Americans who are alive, hope we all become healthy, and independent, and knowledgeable for ourselves and our children's future. Learning relevant knowledge to make yourself independent and healthy is very important. But statists like the crumbs from the criminal corporate banking monopolists of the West, Putin's Gazprom monopoly of Russia, the Chinese Communist's Wealth Fund monopoly, and the Trojan Horse terrorist monopoly of Saudi Arabia - the proven 9/11 co-conspirators. Statists like monopolies. They do not like MILK. In fact, they hate free speech. They hate freedom of the press, private property rights, and independent people - especially Americans. It threatens their global monopoly. They despise anyone who believes in Making Independent Life Knowledgeable. These international monopolists are all statists. The globalists absolutely despise any independent human thought and action that does not serve their monopoly. They despise any freedom of speech and freedom of the press that competes with their international socialist ideology and corporate mass media monopoly of state censorship. It's January, 2017, and even after American citizens elected their champion Donald Trump as the 45th President of the United States of America, totalitarian rule, under globalist direction, is still trying to take form in the United States of America. Land of the free and home of the brave? Try land of the glee and home of the slave. Freedom of speech? Banned. Freedom of the press? Banned. Donald's Trump's TV speech? Banned. Michael Savage's radio talk show? Banned. Never mind. Move along. Nothing to see here. Watch more corporate mass media monopoly TV. The information war has just begun But don't take my word for it. Listen to Alex Jones, another American Voice, and how he supported his fellow radio talk show competitor, Dr. Michael Savage, who was banned from American radio broadcasting? Banned from American radio? Why? For just talking about Hillary's health and how she might be using medication for Parkinson's disease? It's public record Banned off the air for talking about somebody's meds? In America? Isn't political censorship illegal and unconstitutional in America? Michael Savage was banned for what? For recommending a better doctor and a better bed? What about massive Democratic election voter fraud? Isn't that illegal and unconstitutional in the United States of America? What do Bernie Sanders supporters say about it? What about their right to vote and have it counted? What about Seth Rich's freedom of speech? Or Shawn Lucas's freedom of speech? Or Andrew Breitbart's freedom of the press? Where is American justice? In a DNC Made in China toilet sold at HillMart?

The landmark survey of Judd’s iconic spaces, featuring new drawing details, archival materials and more This second expanded edition presents an unprecedented visual survey of the living and working spaces of the artist Donald Judd in New York and Texas. Filled with newly commissioned and archival photographs alongside five essays by the artist, this book provides an opportunity to explore Judd's personal spaces, which are a crucial part of this revered artist's oeuvre. From a 19th-century cast-iron building in Manhattan to an extensive ranch in the mountains of western Texas, this book details the interiors, exteriors and land surrounding the buildings that comprise Judd's extant living and working spaces. Readers will discover how Judd developed the concept of permanent installation at Spring Street in New York City, with artworks, furniture and decorative objects striking a balance between the building's historical qualities and his own architectural innovations. His buildings in Marfa, Texas, demonstrate how Judd reiterated his concept of integrative living on a larger scale, extending to the reaches of the Chinati Mountains at Ayala de Chinati, his 33,000-acre ranch south of the town. Each of the spaces was thoroughly considered by Judd with resolute attention to function and design. From furniture to utilitarian structures that Judd designed himself, these residences reflect Judd's consistent aesthetic. His spaces underscore his deep interest in the preservation of buildings and his deliberate interventions within existing architecture. Donald Judd (1928–94) was born in Excelsior Springs, Missouri. After serving in the United States Army, he attended the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia; the Art Students League of New York; and Columbia University in New York, where he completed a BS in philosophy in 1953. Judd was a prolific critic for magazines including Arts, Art International and Art News; he continued to write throughout his career, addressing the relationship of art practice to architecture, design, political action and lived experience in letters and published essays. As an artist, he started out as a painter before turning to three-dimensional work. His radical work and thinking helped shape the art of the late 20th century and continues to influence artists, architects and designers.

This book is an introduction to and interpretation of the philosophy of language devised by Donald Davidson over the past 25 years. The guiding intuition is that Davidson's work is best understood as an ongoing attempt to purge semantics of theoretical reifications. Seen in this light the recent attack on the notion of language itself emerges as a natural development of his Quinian scepticism towards "meanings" and his rejections of reference-based semantic theories. Linguistic understanding is, for Davidson, essentially dynamic, arising only through a continuous process of theory construction and reconstruction. The result is a conception of semantics in which the notion of interpretation and not the notion of knowing a language is fundamental. In the course of his book Bjorn Ramberg provides a critical discussion of reference-based semantic theories, challenging the standard accounts of the principle of charity and elucidating the notion of radical interpretation. The final chapter on incommensurability ties in with the discussions of Kuhn's work in the philosophy of science and suggests certain links between Davidson's analytic semantics and hermeneutic theory.

The love affair between British speed king Donald Campbell and vivacious singer Tonia Bern was one of the great romances of the twentieth century. But passion turned to tragedy with the dramatic death of Campbell on Lake Coniston in 1967, as he attempted to break the world water speed record in his famous jet boat, Bluebird. In this intimate portrait of her love affair and marriage to Campbell, Tonia tells the inside story of her heady life with Britain's national land and water speed hero.
