The Cat Who Wanted More Than Cute Meet Fiona, short for Queen Fiona of Apartment 4C. She's clever, brave, resourceful, and very, very helpful. Why then do her family and neighbors only praise her for her beauty? Fiona knows she is so much more than "pretty" and "cute"--she is smart and strong too. Through playful adventures, Fiona and the Peculiar Praise reinforces for young readers that what matters more than our looks is who we are and what we do. Being appreciated for our actions, intelligence, and accomplishments is the type of praise that really matters to cats like Fiona--and kids like ours.
Fiona Banner: Font Book

Fiona Banner: Font Book

British artist Fiona Banner (born 1966) recently designed her own font, utilizing an amalgamation of typefaces she had employed in a variety of text-based artworks. In the course of creating this font, Banner became fascinated with the double meaning of the word itself. In addition to a typeface, a font is also a receptacle for holy water, used, chiefly, in baptismal ceremonies, with religious associations derived from an etymological root in Old English and Latin, which roughly translate as "a fountain, a spring, or a source." Banner began amassing images of baptismal and holy-water fonts from churches around the world. Font Book presents the full spectrum of her collection. Resembling something of a supply catalog for the devoted, this compendium presents every baptismal font configuration imaginable, along with accompanying church names and location specs.

"Fiona and her Extra-Special Invisible Gifts" is research driven and written with both the child and the reader in mind. The story is narrated by pre-school age Fiona, as she begins to understand that the invisible gifts she received on her first birthday have been working together ever since. Fiona's family takes time every day to point out that her invisible Spirit energy, especially love, brings each of these invisible gifts together to bring out her best abilities. Fiona learns that the more she uses and shares her gifts with others, the more she will get. The outcome is even more special when she learns she has new friends of every culture around the world. For now, they are invisible, but only because they haven't met yet.The research for this story is based on the (neurological) development of hearing, sight, word comprehension and vocabulary. The story is further enhanced with a subtle Spiritual (non-denominational) component and culturally diverse perspective. All of which come together as a recipe for a successful child, student and global citizen. The story is designed for new parents, at the begining of the parent-child bond, and continuing into the learning curve as they read just a few, meaningful, minutes a day. It is also the perfect book for the new arrival, Grandparents and other child care providers.
