The inspiring memoir of a man The New York Times has called a "power broker with blarney in his pen." James F. Gill is one of the most influential New Yorkers you've never heard of. Now a senior partner at a prestigious New York law firm, Gill has quietly made his mark in the rarefied worlds of business and politics while distinguishing himself as a determined and idealistic advocate of the public interest. Gill has represented trade unions and celebrity estates; he has rubbed shoulders with governors and mayors; he is known and trusted by New York's movers and shakers. And as the head of the Battery Park City Authority, he is at the center of the efforts to rebuild Lower Manhattan in the aftermath of the attacks on the World Trade Center. Brimming with insight, passion, and his trademark humor, For James and Gillian is the story of a remarkable public servant whose accomplishments and idealism will inspire readers of all ages.

Gillian Jagger's complex and moving sculptures are documented in this catalogue of the first museum-organized exhibition of her work, at the Elvehjem Museum of Art. Installation pleces and works on paper are featured, including Jagger's Rift - suspended fragments of weathered board, coiling barbed wire, rusted cutting tools, bones of a deer, a horse skull, and a mummified cat represented the artist's protest against animal abuse. Jagger incorporated sections of a large tree trunk, cast rocks, a grid, chains, hooks, and pulleys in her major recent work, Spiral.

Andor never believes any woman could grab his heart much less enflame it, until an Irish lass named Gillian comes into his life. Gillian will do all she can to save the child she carries from harm even if that means marrying the leader of the Northmen who ransacked her village and took her captive. Little does she realize that her heart will soon be captive. But happily ever after seems never to be when cultures and religions clash, and others want the bride and groom for themselves. The Social Philosophy of Gillian Rose
Gillian Rose was one of the most important social philosophers of the twentieth century. This is the first book to present her social philosophy as a systematic whole. Based on new archive research and examining the full range of Rose's sources, it explains her theory of modern society, her unique version of ideology critique, and her views on law and mutual recognition. Brower Latz relates Rose's work to numerous debates in sociology and philosophy, such as the relation of theory to metatheory, emergence, and the relationship of sociology and philosophy. This book makes clear not only Rose's difficult texts but the entire structure of her thought, making her complete social theory accessible for the first time. ""This book succeeds in providing a highly lucid and hugely instructive introduction to the unique and distinctive work of Gillian Rose. Brower Latz rightly champions Rose as one of the most original and important intellectuals of the late twentieth century, and his appreciation will be of interest to those working in social theory, the philosophy of law, and continental social philosophy."" --Keith Ansell-Pearson, Professor of Philosophy, University of Warwick ""This book offers the most complete introduction to the unique thought of Gillian Rose . . . It rightly stresses Rose's continuity with the Frankfurt school and her cleaving to the inescapability of political and historical exigencies in the face of idealistic delusions that can be covertly complicit with what they oppose . . . At the very least she urges us towards a necessary sifting and Brower Latz's book will help to ensure that we still attend to her remarkable voice."" --John Milbank, Professor of Theology, Philosophy and Politics, University of Nottingham ""Gillian Rose has long been acknowledged as one of post-war Britain's most original thinkers. In this excellent volume, Andrew Brower Latz meticulously explicates all of the many insightful lines of thought found across her complex writings. Though sometimes critical, he makes a persuasive and eloquent case for the ongoing significance of Rose's contributions to social theory."" --Brian O'Connor, Professor of Philosophy, University College Dublin ""This is a book of exemplary clarity and comprehensiveness about one of the most important British thinkers of the last fifty years. Andrew Brower Latz traces Gillian Rose's unusual intellectual evolution and patiently expounds her notoriously demanding prose to display a powerful, coherent and enormously timely social vision, much needed in a culture of growing political barbarism."" --Rowan Williams, Master of Magdalene College, Cambridge Andrew Brower Latz is Teacher of Religion and Philosophy at The Manchester Grammar School.

Capturing the nostalgia of loss and secrecy, rnbratt unravels a love story that's lain hidden for generations. This women's fiction novel features one of the most vivacious characters to come along in years. The "Gillianisms" and word plays sprinkled throughout are sure to become quotable favorites for readers. From the book jacket: To satisfy her wandering feet, eighteen-year-old Gillian McAllister is sent from Ireland to Canada in the summer of 1932. She arrives with her Irish ways intact, determined not to let the wiles of crop duster Christian Hunter woo her into submission. Yet as the summer unfolds and the sweet taste of love grows, Gillian's appeal lures more than she anticipates, shattering the life they've built. Fourteen years, a Great Depression, and a World War later, Christian sets out to discover why Gillian was ripped from his life. What he discovers on the Isle of Man will change them both forever. Not even a thatched cottage by the sea, a spritely Gillian, or memories sprinkled on a page can mask the secret that has been buried for too long. But it isn't until a set of poems is given to Gillian's granddaughter that the real mystery Gillian's true secret is freed. Note: The book is receiving interest from international booksellers in London, Isle of Mann, Canada, Sweden, and even Paris.

This is the first book-length study of the poetry and journal writings of Gillian Clarke in their entirety; it is the first extensive examination of her work published in this century, and the first full account of how her work has developed in the course of her career as a writer and teacher. In addressing timely and highly relevant themes in Clarke’s work, which have been relatively overlooked until now, the book highlights and re-examines her importance for today’s readers. Discussing the energy, subtlety and originality of her works, the author commends Clarke as an innovative, politically-alert and scientifically and cosmologically-aware Welsh writer of global significance.

Rhian Elizabeth's maybe i'll call gillian anderson is a raw, darkly funny, and deeply affecting collection that navigates the liminal spaces of love, loss, and reinvention. With a voice that is both unguarded and sharply observant, Elizabeth crafts poems that move through heartbreak, motherhood, memory, and self-destruction with biting wit and aching tenderness. Whether tracing the ghosts of past selves, confronting absence, or yearning for connection, these poems refuse sentimentality, instead offering something braver-an intimacy that is as unsparing as it is humane.
