Peter Hachler (1922-99) ranks among the most revered and formerly most radical sculptors in contemporary Swiss art. Geometric rigor as well as an intuitive playfulness distinguish Hachler's work. The range of materials he used for his sculptures is another striking characteristic of his art. In the 1970s, Hachler began experimenting with industrial materials - such as concrete, plastic, cast iron, or stainless steel - creating vast works for display in public spaces, some of them conceived as art-in-architecture projects. This new monograph, published in conjunction with an exhibition at Museum Haus Konstruktiv in Zurich in autumn 2015, looks at Peter Hachler's art from today's perspective. It features nearly forty of his sculptures in photographs newly taken for this book. An essay by distinguished Swiss art historian Martino Stierli contextualises Hachler's oeuvre in postwar Swiss art, while curator Sabine Schaschl explores his life and inspirations in conversation with his widow Eva and his daughter Gabrielle.

Flying the Hump: The War Diary of Peter H. Dominick

Peter H. Dominick was a war hero prior to becoming a respected U.S. congressman, senator, and ambassador. "Flying the Hump" over the Himalayas during World War II meant risking your life in often-dilapidated planes while transporting crucial supplies to Allied forces fighting the Japanese in the China/Burma/India Theater. Dominick was one of the lucky few to survive "The Aluminum Trail," so called because of the number of aircraft that crashed along the perilous route.Years later, Dominick's family discovered parts of a diary that featured his daily experiences during the war. Many of the stories were unknown to his family and provide an intimate look at the stresses these brave men endured. The diary also contained a thrilling short story that Dominick wrote based on his experiences. It is included in this volume compiled by his son, Alexander S. Dominick.
This new installment of the popular handbook series gives teachers and students a comprehensive guide to the grammar and vocabulary of both 2 Peter and Jude. Within the text of these intertwined Catholic Epistles, Peter H. Davids finds rhetorical features and stylistic elements often overlooked. By using this handbook in combination with traditional commentaries, students will be guided toward a greater understanding of the Greek text in 2 Peter and Jude while gaining a deeper appreciation for textual and rhetorical intricacies not available in the English translations.
In this volume, Peter Davids offers a comprehensive study of the General or Catholic Epistles of James, 1-2 Peter, and Jude, which are often insufficiently covered in more general New Testament introductions, theologies, and surveys. Before discussing a theology of each of the four letters, Davids first deals with their common aspects—their shared background in the Greco-Roman world and a similar Christology, view of the source of sin, and eschatology—thus justifying their being treated together. In the chapters that follow, Davids embarks upon a theological reading of each letter informed by its social-rhetorical understanding—what they meant in the context of their original cultural settings—including: a survey of recent scholarship, a discussion of relevant introductory issues, a thematic commentary, a treatment of important theological themes, and a discussion of the place of the letter in the biblical canon and its contribution to New Testament theology. The Biblical Theology of the New Testament (BTNT) series provides upper college and seminary-level textbooks for students of New Testament theology, interpretation, and exegesis. Pastors and discerning theology readers alike will also benefit from this series. Written at the highest level of academic excellence by recognized experts in the field, the BTNT series not only offers a comprehensive exploration of the theology of every book of the New Testament, including introductory issues and major themes, but also shows how each book relates to the broad picture of New Testament theology.

Best of all, you'll gain a deepened awareness of the Bible’s relevance for your life. Written in a clear, engaging style, this beautiful set provides a new and accessible approach that more technical expository and exegetical commentaries don't offer.
The First Epistle of Peter constitutes an important work of New Testament theology and pastoral care, serves as an example of how the early church applied Jesus' sayings and the Old Testament writings to contemporary concerns, and presents some extremely useful perspectives on living the Christian life today. This commentary by Peter Davids does an excellent job of mining the rich wealth of instruction to be found in this very significant section of Scripture. Davids's commentary contains several notable features: a unique grasp of 1 Peter's structure, a systematically arranged introduction that summarizes the commentary proper, a perceptive excursus on suffering in 1 Peter and the New Testament, Davids's own study translation, thorough and incisive comments on each verse of the test, frequent parallels to ancient literature, an exceptionally clear and lively writing style, and one of the most comprehensive bibliographies on 1 Peter available anywhere.
Filling a notable gap in scholarship on 2 Peter and Jude, Peter Davids artfully unpacks these two neglected but fascinating epistles that deal with the confrontation between the Greco-Roman world and the burgeoning first-century Jesus communities. Davids firmly grasps the overall structure of these oft-maligned epistles and presents a strong case for 2 Peter and Jude as coherent, consistent documents. Marked by exceptional exegesis and sharp, independent judgments, Davids's work both connects with the latest scholarship and transforms scholarly insights into helpful conclusions benefiting Christian believers.
