Irreverent and moving, Meera Syal's Life Isn't All Ha Ha Hee Hee is an evocative story of friendship, marriage, betrayal, and the difficult choices women face. Meera Syal has created an indelible portrait of a close-knit group of Indian women living in London. Caught between two cultures, three childhood friends--Chila, Sunita, and Tania--are expected to revert to being obedient mothers and wives. But their world explodes when Tania makes a documentary, starring Chila and Sunita, about contemporary urban Indian Life. The result is an unforgettable story of friendship from the award-winning author of Anita and Me.
Korea's Development Under Park Chung Hee
Based on personal interviews with the principal policy-makers of the 1970s, Korea's Development under Park Chung-Hee examines how the president sought to develop South Korea into an independent, autonomous sovereign state both economically and militarily. Kim provides a new narrative in the complex task of exploring the paradoxical nature and effects of Korea's rapid development which maintains that any judgement of Park must consider his achievements in the socio-economic, cultural and political context in which they took place. Aspects of Park's government analyzed include:*his abhorrence of Korea's reliance on the US presence*the Korean model of state-guided industrialization*Park's rapid development strategy *the role of the ruling elites*Park's clandestine nuclear development program*the heavy chemical industrialisation of the 1970sThe prevailing popularity of Park in the eyes of the Korean public is significant and relevant to their acceptance of how their national development was achieved. This book tells that story while simultaneously recognizing the flaws in the process. With a great deal of material never before published, scholars of Korean politics and history at all levels will find this book a stimulating account of South Korea in the 1960s and 1970s.

Contemporary Korean Political Thought and Park Chung-hee
This important new book identifies the distinctive characteristics of the ideological terrain in contemporary (South) Korean politics and reexamines the political thought of Park Chung-hee (1917–1979), the most revered, albeit the most controversial, former president in the history of South Korea, in light of those characteristics. Jung In Kang articulates “simultaneity of the nonsimultaneous” and the “sanctification of nationalism” as the most preeminent characteristics of the Korean ideological topography, which are distinct from those of modern Western Europe, while acknowledging the overwhelming and informing influence of modern Western civilization in shaping contemporary Korean politics and ideologies. He goes on to analyze the political thought of Park Chung-hee, in this way investigating and confirming the academic validity and relevance of those ideological characteristics in more specific terms. The book assesses how nonsimultaneity and sanctification are interwoven with Park’s thought, while reconstructing the political thought of President Park in terms of four modern ideologies: liberalism (liberal democracy), conservatism, nationalism and radicalism. Kang concludes by tracing the changes undergone by simultaneity and sanctification in the three decades since democratization, with some speculation on their future, and by examining the ideological legacy and ramifications of Park Chung-hee’s authoritarian politics in the twenty-first century.

The Ahwahnee Legend Kos-Soo-Kah and Tee Hee Neh: Lost Arrow of the Yosemite
The Ahwahnee Legend Kos-Soo-Kah And Tee Hee Neh: Lost Arrow Of The Yosemite is a book written by Richard Shatka under the pen name Bear-Step. The book tells the story of two Native American brothers, Kos-Soo-Kah and Tee Hee Neh, who live in the Yosemite Valley. The brothers are skilled hunters and trackers, and they are respected members of their tribe. One day, while out hunting, the brothers come across a mysterious arrow that has been stuck in a tree. They soon discover that the arrow belongs to a powerful spirit who has been trapped in the valley for many years. The spirit, who is known as the Lost Arrow, has been unable to leave the valley because of a curse that was placed upon it by a rival tribe.Kos-Soo-Kah and Tee Hee Neh decide to help the Lost Arrow by breaking the curse and releasing it from the valley. They embark on a dangerous journey that takes them through treacherous terrain and puts them in conflict with the rival tribe. Along the way, they encounter other spirits and creatures of the valley, including the legendary Ahwahneechee people. The Ahwahnee Legend Kos-Soo-Kah And Tee Hee Neh: Lost Arrow Of The Yosemite is a captivating tale that combines Native American folklore with adventure and suspense. Ni-free Ti-based Shape Memory Alloys

Ni-free Ti-based Shape Memory Alloys

Hee Young Kim; Shuichi Miyazaki

Ni-free Ti-based Shape Memory Alloys reviews the fundamental issues of biomedical beta-type Ti base shape memory and superelastic alloys, including martensitic transformation, shape memory and superelastic properties, alloy development, thermomechanical treatment and microstructure control, and biocompatibility. Some unique properties, such as large nonlinear elastic behavior and low Young’s modulus, observed in metastable Ti alloys are discussed on the basis of phase stability. As it is expected that superelastic Ti alloys will further expand the applications of shape memory alloys within the biomedical field, this book provides a comprehensive review of these new findings in Ti-base shape memory and superelastic alloys.
Korean Morphosyntax: Focusing on Clitics and Their Roles in Syntax
Korean Morphosyntax: Focusing on Clitics and Their Roles in Syntax presents a theory-neutral comprehensive analysis of Korean morphosyntax for advanced students and scholars of Korean language and linguistics. This book focuses on the morphosyntactic status of particles in Korean and highlights how this understanding allows for a proper analysis of sentences. As the significance of clitics in Korean has not been highlighted by previous works in such depth, this book offers the first comprehensive study of this aspect of the Korean language. The new observations offered here will allow readers to correctly identify the basic units of syntax and to properly analyze sentences in Korean. This book will be of interest to graduates and scholars interested in Korean linguistics and morphosyntax.
Asymmetric Passive Components in Microwave Integrated Circuits
This book examines the new and important technology of asymmetric passive components for miniaturized microwave passive circuits. The asymmetric design methods and ideas set forth by the author are groundbreaking and have not been treated in previous works. Readers discover how these design methods reduce the circuit size of microwave integrated circuits and are also critical to reducing the cost of equipment such as cellular phones, radars, antennas, automobiles, and robots. An introductory chapter on the history of asymmetric passive components, which began with asymmetric ring hybrids first described by the author, sets the background for the book. It lays a solid foundation with a chapter examining microwave circuit parameters such as scattering, ABCD, impedance, admittance, and image. A valuable feature of this chapter is a conversion table between the various circuit matrices characterizing two-port networks terminated in arbitrary impedances. The correct conversion has also never been treated in previous works. Next, the author sets forth a thorough treatment of asymmetric passive component design, which covers the basic and indispensable elements for integration with other active or passive devices, including: * Asymmetric ring hybrids * Asymmetric branch-line hybrids * Asymmetric three-port power dividers and N-way power dividers * Asymmetric ring hybrid phase shifters and attenuators * Asymmetric ring filters and asymmetric impedance transformers With its focus on the principles of circuit element design, this is a must-have graduate-level textbook for students in microwave engineering, as well as a reference for design engineers who want to learn the new and powerful design method for asymmetric passive components.
