Mandrini nad ei jõua, kuid leiavad midagi muud, mis viib Stelleri nime ajalooraamatutesse: Stelleri meriõhva.1859. aastal saadab Hampus Furuhjelm, Venemaa Alaska soomlasest kuberner, mehed otsima suure, väidetavalt juba sajand tagasi kadunud mereimetaja skeletti, sest seda tahetakse keiserliku ülikooli kogudesse.1952. aastal saab Helsingi zooloogiamuuseumi preparaator John Grönvall ülesandeks restaureerida haruldane tervenisti säilinud Stelleri meriõhva skelett."Surelikud" on harukordselt mõjuv debüütromaan. This two volume set provides a clear understanding of the essence of a metallic liquid's thermophysical properties which is indispensable for improving, or innovating any liquid metal processing operation or product quality. The thermophysical properties of metallic liquids are presented, i.e. liquid metals, semimetals, and semiconductors, analysed in relation to our current understanding of the underlying structure of a metallic liquid on the atomic scale and of the electron configuration of an element. The authors' interdisciplinary approach brings together knowledge from various subject areas including: process metallurgy, materials science, condensed matter physics, chemistry, metrology. They introduce new dimensionless parameters to characterise the atomic states of metallic liquids (i.e. an atom's hardness or softness, its anharmonic motions, and the spatial arrangement of the atoms in a metallic liquid), as revealed through data for the velocity of sound in the metallic liquids. The two new simple parameters, common to all elements, allow for better predictions of several important thermophysical properties of liquid metallic elements.

Volume 2 considers the essential conditions for a model to be truly predictive. The authors use a statistical approach to rate the validity of the various predictive models that have been previously used for evaluating various thermophysical properties. On the basis of this assessment, the authors have predicted values for the thermophysical properties of elemental metallic liquids, which are lacking in experimental data. They believe their predicted values are at least as reliable, and sometimes more reliable than corresponding experimental values. According to the periodic law, the authors provide the periodic variations in values of some twelve physical quantities or thermophysical properties. This is based on the electron configuration in the outermost energy level of metallic elements. Finally, a large number of experimental data for the physical quantities and thermophysical properties of liquid metallic elements are compiled.

With the rise of China, Japan and many East Asian countries are caught between maximizing profit from economic ties with her, and strengthening alliances with the United States to prevent China from overpowering them. Liberals and realists thus debate over the likelihood of either security tensions easing up or economic interdependence getting reduced eventually. On the other hand, Iida introduces a new theory that reinterprets the relationship between state security and economic interdependence among countries in the Asia-Pacific region.Based on case studies of recent episodes in East Asia, and especially on the experiences of Japan, this book highlights an interesting dynamic between security and economic interdependence: risk avoidance. By understanding how risk avoidance affects the behavior of these countries in terms of security and economics, it becomes evident how they eventually settle into what Iida calls "Cool Politics" and "Lukewarm Economics".

Search theory is concerned with the location of a 'target' given imprecise information concerning its location.
