Volume V deals with the problems of turnover in the nervous system. "Turnover" is defined in different ways, and the term is used in different contexts. It is used rather broadly in the present volume, and intentionally so. The turnover of macromolecules is only one aspect; here "turnover" in dicates the simultaneous and coordinated formation and breakdown of macromolecular species. The complexities of cerebral protein turnover are shown in aseparate chapter dealing with the synthesis ofproteins, in another on breakdown, and in still another on the relationship ofthese two (showing how the two halves of turnover are controlled). The fact that most likely the two halves of protein turnover, synthesis and breakdown, are separated spatially and the mechanisms involved are different further emphasizes the complexity of macromolecular turnover. "Turnover" is used in a different context when the turnover of a cycle is discussed; but he re again a number of complex metabolic reactions have to be interrelated and controlled; some such cycles are discussed briefly in this volume, additional cycles have been discussed with metabolism, and some cycles still await elucidation or discovery.

We love weddings! But how do two people, with their different cultural backgrounds and expectations, make sure they continue to grow together for the rest of their lives? In Celebrating Your Intercultural Marriage, Les and Louise Isaac offer wisdom and encouragement from over 40 years of marriage, and 30 years of marriage ministry, to couples setting out on their intercultural marriage journey. Including their own stories, and those of real couples they've mentored along the way, they address such important topics as: - the social and spiritual context for marriage today - how to set boundaries with parents and in-laws - why it is important to talk through cultural differences - how to work through times when those differences clash - the role of the wider church community in supporting marriages - why embracing difference can lead to a unique and life-giving relationship This book is for every couple that wants to learn to love their cultural differences and turn them into their greatest strength.
Five Polyphonic Masses By Heinrich Isaac

Five Polyphonic Masses By Heinrich Isaac

During the brilliant age that produced a Machiavelli and an Erasmus, Heinrich Isaac became one of the recognized masters of secular as well as religious music. Before his death in 1517 he had served both Lorenzo the Magnificent in Florence and Emperor Maximilian I in Vienna and Augsburg. His Choralis Constantinus ranks with Johann Sebastian Bach's Art of the Fugue as one of the epochal works in the history of music. But it is only with the publication of these Five Polyphonic Masses that the entire Formschneider first edition (Nürnberg, 1555) is at last made available to modern scholars and musicians. Unquestionably the most serious and most significant of Isaac's varied and numerous works are his Masses. Among his finest and most characteristic are these five magnificent settings for the Ordinary of the Mass, which appear at the close of Part III of the Choralis. In the present modern notation, after three centuries, they again take their place as music to be performed.

The 2018 exhibition at the Guggenheim Museum in New York, Hilma af Klint: Paintings for the Future, introduced the general public to the abstract mystical masterpieces of Swedish painter Hilma af Klint (1862–1944). Based on a seminar held at the Guggenheim Museum at the opening of this acclaimed exhibition, this volume compiles the insights of the seminar’s contributors alongside reproductions of works, archival photographs and images from af Klint’s journals. Hilma af Klint: Visionary explores the social and spiritual movements that appeared at the turn of the 20th century, inspiring the pioneers of modernism and abstract art: Kandinsky, Mondrian, Malevich and af Klint. What was the zeitgeist that inspired such an eruption in abstract art? What were the conditions that created Hilma af Klint? Academics and experts Julia Voss, Tracey Bashkoff, Isaac Lubelsky, Linda Dalrymple Henderson and Marco Pasi each take a different approach. Voss analyzes af Klint's biography, pinpointing five important events in her life; Bashkoff presents her connection to Hilla Rebay and her plans for the building of a temple; Lubelsky traces the origins of theosophy in New York; Henderson examines the occult and science; and Pasi considers esotericism’s changing role in culture.

On the night of November 6th, 1941, the life of Isaac Gochman, a 16 year old Polish Jew, changes tragically and profoundly. Over 20,000 Jews from Rovno, Poland are marched into the Sosenki Forest by the Nazis, stripped and shot to death, then buried in an endless, unmarked ravine. All of Isaac's family and friends die in the massacre. But Isaac miraculously survives the slaughter, and so begins his incredible and harrowing journey through the Polish forest, facing unimaginable hardships and the constant threat of death from the Nazis and their sympathizers. To save himself, he adopts a new identity, Sergei, a Russian Christian, and joins the Russian Partisan Brigade, to become a demolition "miracle man." As a Partisan, he falls passionately in love for the first time in his young life with Ducia, a Russian Nurse. Near the end of the war, with Ducia tragically gone forever, he turns his back on his homeland, heroically saves the lives of American soldiers, and finds a new home in America. Isaac is a true coming-of-age story of miraculous survival, courage and love.

Throughout his life, Isaac remained a passive tent dweller. He did not go to find a wife; his servant brought a wife to him. He did not go to war; and when conflict arose, he withdrew. In the story of his binding, he was passive, and it appears as though he was bound forever on the altar. Isaac was dominated by his father Abraham, his wife Rebecca, Abimelech king of Gerar, and his sons Jacob and Esau. For most of his life, he is led by others, and his actions are reactions to the developing situations. He appears to have little personality and is better known as the son of his father Abraham, or the father of his sons Jacob and Esau.
