Justices William J. Brennan, Jr. and Thurgood Marshall on Capital Punishment
Justices William J. Brennan, Jr. and Thurgood Marshall are the only members of the United States Supreme Court who categorically opposed the death penalty for the duration of their tenure. Both wrote a large number of intellectually provocative opinions which examined a wide range of legal and moral arguments frequently raised concerning capital punishment. This book is a meticulous examination of their opinions which not only amplifies their constitutional philosophy but also explores the evolving questions on capital punishment which were presented to the Court. The opinions of Brennan and Marshall were extremely cogent and quite consistent in their approach to the death penalty. Both maintained that the death penalty is unconstitutional and a barbaric form of punishment which has been arbitrarily inflicted based on racial and ethnic bias. This book examines their opinions within the larger context of arguments generally put forward both in support of, and opposition to, the death penalty. The text of this book originally appeared in its entirety in the Notre Dame Journal of Law, Ethics, and Public Policy, vol.8, issue #1(1994).

This is a printed copy of the "Trial Memorandum Of President Donald J. Trump In Proceedings Before The United States Senate" as produced by the Office of White House Counsel in the Impeachment proceedings before the United States Senate. The Articles of Impeachment now before the Senate are an affront to the Constitution and to our democratic institutions. The Articles themselves--and the rigged process that brought them here--are a brazenly political act by House Democrats that must be rejected. They debase the grave power of impeachment and disdain the solemn responsibility that power entails. Anyone having the most basic respect for the sovereign will of the American people would shudder at the enormity of casting a vote to impeach a duly elected President. By contrast, upon tallying their votes, House Democrats jeered until they were scolded into silence by the Speaker. The process that brought the articles here violated every precedent and every principle of fairness followed in impeachment inquiries for more than 150 years. Even so, all that House Democrats have succeeded in proving is that the President did absolutely nothing wrong.

David J. Monosmith was a farmer, a teacher, an inventor, a businessman, and most of all, a prolific photographer. Born March 21, 1876, to Reason & Hattie Monosmith he grew up on the farm at 7027 Spencer Road (Rt. 301), south of Spencer, Ohio, with his younger brother Clayton. David died in 1928 and is buried in Spencer, as are his parents and brother.David was an inventor with a variety of patents, including several related to automobiles. The Spencer wheel, or Fatman steering wheel, which increased the seating space in a Model T, was one of his accomplishments, as were several carburetor improvements. David was recognized by the Columbus Ohio Fire Department for his invention of a spotlight that burnt carbide gas.Spencer residents Dow Miller & Dorr Delong appear to have been close friends with David and were involved in the photographic endeavors as was David's brother Clayton.Roy Stroup, a postman, purchased the Monosmith farm, probably in the early 1920's, and many of David's cherished negatives remained on the farm, in a wooden box. Mr. Stroup insured the survival of the negatives, as well as many other artifacts related to Spencer's history. When Roy Stroup's estate was settled, over 500 of David Monosmith's glass negatives were found, and ended up in the possession of the Spencer Historical Society. Fifty six additional Monosmith glass negatives were found by Gary Flegel and loaned to the project. The photographs in this book, brought to you by The Spencer Historical Society, represent years of work, by many volunteers, to insure that David Monosmiths photographs last at least another 100 years.

The book covers Ionides' many adventures, including his expeditions to Africa, Asia, and South America, where he encountered some of the deadliest snakes in the world. The author also explores Ionides' personal life, including his marriage to a wealthy American heiress and his relationships with other snake collectors and scientists. Buddhist Meditation for Beginners: (Understanding Dalai Lama, Eckhart Tolle, Jiddu Krishnamurti & Alan Watts)
THESE LESSONS AND EXERCISES will help you understand Buddha's essential teachings (the Dharma, Way, or Path), including the basics of Buddhist meditation practice. Apart from quoting ancient Buddhist scriptures, its pages also include priceless advice from Dalai Lama, Eckhart Tolle, Krishnamurti, and Alan Watts, among other renowned spiritual teachers.Although the ultimate goal of Buddhist meditation practice is attaining a state of spiritual Awakening or Enlightenment, it must be said that not many people achieve this -except perhaps dedicated monks and advanced practitioners. In any case, there are many benefits attributed to regular meditation practice, as a recent Mayo Clinic report states: "Meditation can wipe away the day's stress, bringing with it inner peace... If stress has you anxious, tense, and worried, consider trying meditation. Spending even a few minutes in meditation can restore your calm and inner peace... Meditation can give you a sense of calm, peace, and balance that benefits both your emotional well-being and your overall health. And these benefits don't end when your meditation session ends. Meditation can help carry you more calmly through your day and may improve certain medical conditions..."This is truly a book recommended for everyone interested in finding the Truth, escaping from Illusion, and experiencing inner peace in the Now START MEDITATING TODAY AND CHECK OUT THE REST OF THE SERIES VOLUME 1.- Living in "The Now" in Easy StepsVOLUME 2.- Buddhist Meditation For BeginnersVOLUME 3.- Spiritual Hindu Tales to Calm Your MindVOLUME 4.- Christian Meditation in Easy StepsVOLUME 5.- Meditation in 7 Easy StepsVOLUME 6.- Stop Negative Thinking in 7 Easy StepsVOLUME 7.- The Power of Living in The Now IVOLUME 8.- Eckhart Tolle: His Life & Quest for The Power of NowVOLUME 9.- The Power of Living in The Now IIVOLUME 10.- DALAI LAMA, His Magical Childhood and Teenage Years
Pleistocene Amphibians and Reptiles in Britain and Europe

Pleistocene Amphibians and Reptiles in Britain and Europe

J. Alan Holman

The Pleistocene epoch or Ice Age, an extended period of advancing and retreating ice sheets, is characterized by striking climatic oscillations and sea level fluctuations. This age saw the rise and spread of humans and a great extinction of large mammals by the end of the epoch; in fact, the world today is essentially the product of dramatic changes that took place in the Pleistocene. This book, a companion to the author's Pleistocene Amphibians and Reptiles in North America, discusses the Pleistocene amphibians and reptiles in Britain and the European continent eastward through present-day Poland, the Czech Republic, Hungary, the Yugoslavian republics, and Greece. The book begins with a general discussion of the Pleistocene in Britain and Europe with an emphasis on regional terms used to define Pleistocene chronological events. Next, a look at the pre-Pleistocene herpetofauna of the study area sets the stage for a discussion of Pleistocene herpetofauna. A significant section of the book consists of a "bestiary," a series of annotated taxonomic accounts of Pleistocene herpetological taxa from the region. Following this is the interpretive section, beginning with a discussion of herpetological species as paleoenvironmental indicators and continuing with an analysis of herpetological population adjustments to Pleistocene events in Britain and Europe, and then with a discussion of extinction patterns in the region. Finally, the author compares Pleistocene herpetological events in Europe with those in North America. This volume and its companion together provide an up-to-date and comprehensive review of Pleistocene herpetofaunas across a significant portion of the Northern Hemisphere.
