Disinfection of Pipelines and Storage Facilities Field Guide

Disinfection of Pipelines and Storage Facilities Field Guide

William C. Lauer; Fred J. Sanchez

American Water Works Association,US
2006

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 32 percent of waterborne disease outbreaks are caused by pathogen intrusion in the water distribution system. Incorporating disinfection practices for water mains and storage facilities can reduce the risk of microbial contamination. This handy guidebook provides all the correct field practices for preventing microbial contamination of the water flowing in water mains, storage tanks, and other distribution system components. NOTE TO WATER UTILITIES: To ensure that mains and storage facilities are properly disinfected prior to use, AWWA advises that water utilities should insist that their pipeline contractors have and use this book. Our technology shapes the way we live, interact, work, play, and even worship. Technology and its power are both old and new—as is the wisdom we need to envision, design, build, and use it well. For Christians passionate about developing technology, it's not always clear how their faith and work intersect. How can designing and using technology actually be a way of loving God and our neighbors? Veteran engineers and teachers Ethan Brue, Derek Schuurman, and Steve VanderLeest provide a field guide for fellow explorers working with technology. Using numerous case studies, historical examples, and personal stories, they explore issues such as: biblical themes and passages that relate to technologythe ethics and norms involved in technology designhow engineering and technology tap into human dreams for a better world Along the way they acknowledge the challenges arising from technology but also point to the wonderful possibilities it offers us and its ability to contribute to the common good. For Christians studying and working in engineering, computer science, technical design, architecture, and related fields, this book is packed with wisdom and practical guidance. By sharing what they have learned, the authors encourage readers to ask harder questions, aspire to more noble purposes, and live a life consistent with their faith as they engage with technology.
Classical Archaeology in the Field

Classical Archaeology in the Field

Archaeology has progressed enormously since the early excavations of classical sites such as Olympia and Ephesus in the middle of the 19th century. A better perspective on the material culture of the Classical world is now given by new methods and modern techniques, which depend on the rigorous application of skills from a wide range of disciplines. This book, written by a group of active field archaeologists, is designed particularly for students at A-level and on university courses, as well as for those with a general interest in the ancient world. It demonstrates the progression of a project from planning and prospection, through excavation and study to interpretation and public presentation. It also provides links to a wide range of internet resources to enable students to follow through case studies of recent survey and excavation ranging in time from the Bronze Age to the early Byzantine, and in extent from Britain to Turkey.

More than 2600 species of tiger beetles are found all over the world. In North America there are 116 species of tiger beetle, divided into 153 geographically distinct races. Detailed studies of their natural history, population dynamics, communities, patterns of worldwide species richness, and taxonomy of particular subgroups have produced much information. Tiger beetles are among the most widely investigated groups of insects, especially in terms of their ecology and geographic distribution. The first edition of A Field Guide to the Tiger Beetles of the United States and Canada, published in 2005, has served as a field and natural-history guide to all known species of tiger beetles found in North America above the Mexican border. The 2nd edition is a pleasant and comprehensible handbook of the identification, distribution, natural history, and habitat details of the 116 species of tiger beetles in North America. The updated handbook provides new information including observations of seasonality, range extensions and biology, a newly developed list of common names, and twenty-five artistically pleasing identification color plates. The second edition of A Field Guide to the Tiger Beetles of the United States and Canada provides essential information to recognize and easily identify tiger beetles for established naturalists and outdoor enthusiasts alike.

""Field Computations In Engineering And Physics"" by A. Thom is a comprehensive guide to the theory and practice of numerical field computations in engineering and physics. The book covers a wide range of topics, including electromagnetic fields, heat transfer, fluid mechanics, and structural mechanics, and provides a detailed introduction to the numerical methods used to solve these problems. The book begins with an overview of the fundamental concepts of field theory and numerical methods, including finite difference, finite element, and boundary element methods. It then goes on to cover specific applications of these methods in various fields, such as electromagnetic field analysis, heat transfer analysis, fluid mechanics analysis, and structural mechanics analysis.Throughout the book, the author provides numerous examples and case studies to illustrate the practical application of the theoretical concepts. The book also includes a chapter on software tools and packages used for numerical field computations, as well as a discussion of the limitations and challenges of these methods.Overall, ""Field Computations In Engineering And Physics"" is an essential resource for anyone involved in the analysis and design of engineering and physics systems, and provides a valuable reference for students and researchers in these fields. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations. Because we believe this work is culturally important, we have made it available as part of our commitment for protecting, preserving, and promoting the world's literature in affordable, high quality, modern editions, that are true to their original work.

Hesperia Supplement, Volume 55 Since its excavation in the 1970s, the East Field at Isthmia has been dismissed as a jumble of poorly built houses, marginal to the sanctuary proper. Except for a few small-scale excavations and a handful of studies, the site and its excavation data have sat largely neglected ever since. Now, following a reanalysis of this legacy data and a survey of the standing remains, this volume presents the first comprehensive study of the East Field’s architectural and spatial development. Using an innovative method to extract stratigraphic data from outmoded and incomplete sources, the authors disentangle the maze of walls into identifiable structures, setting these within a phased narrative connected to the site’s broader history. The results overturn decades of assumptions, revealing substantial structures central to the sanctuary, some possibly corresponding to buildings otherwise known only from inscriptions: the Stoa of Regulus, the Kataluseis of P. Licinius Priscus Iuventianus, and the final site of the Palaimon sanctuary. Additional structures document activity between the 3rd and the 5th centuries CE unattested elsewhere on the site. The East Field at Isthmia offers a radically new understanding of this neglected area of Isthmia and its relation to the sanctuary; along the way, it both encourages archaeologists to revisit long-abandoned excavation data and provides a road map for doing so.

Conducting Hermeneutic Research: From Philosophy to Practice is the only textbook that teaches the reader ways to conduct research from a philosophical hermeneutic perspective. It is an invaluable resource for graduate students about to embark in hermeneutic research and for academics or other researchers who are novice to this research method or who wish to extend their knowledge. In 2009, the lead author of this proposed text was one of three co-founders of the Canadian Hermeneutic Institute. The institute was created as a means of bringing together scholars of hermeneutics and hermeneutic research across disciplines in creative dialogue and conversations of philosophy, research, and practice. An outcome of this was the launch of the Journal of Applied Hermeneutics, with Nancy J. Moules serving as Editor. The work of the institute and the journal make clear that people (both students and professors) seek practical guidance on how to conduct hermeneutic research. This book is a must read for this audience.

This book traces the philosophical history of hermeneutics from a primarily Gadamerian perspective and translates those tenets into describing an interpretive research method used in applied disciplines.
