Jean-Jacques Fournier is a native of Montreal. He started writing poetry in earnest while living in California in the early eighties. In the process of reinventing himself numerous times, his penchant for the language of poetry seemed best suited to express emotional experiences. He then spent several years pursuing his writing in the South of France, during which time he published his first three books. He has since moved back to Canada and is now living in the Eastern Townships of the province of Quebec with his French wife, and two Maine Coon cats. He has published eight books to date, this being his eighth and the second edition of his second book of poetry. All poems for this second edition have been revisited.

A deliciously witty and entertaining "variation" on Diderot's novel Jacques le Fatalist, written for Milan Kundera's "private pleasure" in the aftermath of the Russian invasion of Czechoslovakia. When the "heavy Russian irrationality" fell on Czechoslovakia, Milan Kundera explains, he felt drawn to the spirit of the eighteenth century--"And it seemed to me that nowhere was it to be found more densely concentrated than in that banquet of intelligence, humor, and fantasy, Jacques le Fataliste."The upshot was this "Homage to Diderot," which has now been performed throughout the United States and Europe. Here, Jacques and His Master, newly translated by Simon Callow, is a text that will delight Kundera's admirers throughout the English-speaking world.

His Master: An Homage to Denis Diderot into France, despite border controls. Kundera had written it after the Soviet invasion, during a time when all of his past and future works had been erased from Czechoslovak literature.Jacques and His Master tells three interwoven love stories during the journey undertaken by Jacques and his master: the master's story, Jacques's story, and Madame de la Pommeraye's story. These three narratives intertwine polyphonically, with each being a variation of the others, coming together to form a comedy about the existential dilemmas of romantic passion.
What happens on the journey? Jacques tells his master his adventures; this story in turn is constantly interrupted by other stories or by Diderot, as narrator, who comes in to tease the reader about the future course of the novel. Diderot is eager to be agreeable, so long as the reader realizes that the fabricator of a novel can as easily proceed in this way as in that. The book foreshadows a number of 19th and 20th century literary techniques, exchanging the rational and classical for shifting perspectives of time, personality, and viewpoint.

The Diamond Master (1909) is a mystery novel by Jacques Futrelle. Published at the height of his career as a leading popular detective and science fiction writer, The Diamond Master was adapted for two silent films in 1921 and 1929. Celebrated for his brisk storytelling and mastery of suspense, Jacques Futrelle was lost at sea on April 15, 1912 while returning from Europe on the HMS Titanic. His wife, who survived the disaster, had his last book dedicated to “the heroes of the Titanic.” “A minute or more passed, a minute of wonder, admiration, allurement, but at last he ventured to lift the diamond from the box. It was perfect, so far as he could see; perfect in cutting and color and depth, prismatic, radiant, bewilderingly gorgeous. Its value? Even he could not offer an opinion...” An expert jeweler, even Harry Latham is forced to admit he has never in his life seen such a diamond. It arrived in an unmarked package with neither message nor return address, a rather casual presentation for such an invaluable object. Unable to appraise it, let alone uncover its origins, he seeks the advice of other experienced jewelers. Soon, it is determined that five flawless diamonds have been delivered to his colleagues across the United States, prompting confusion and fear as to the intentions of the anonymous sender. With a beautifully designed cover and professionally typeset manuscript, this edition of Jacques Futrelle’s The Diamond Master is a classic of American detective fiction reimagined for modern readers.
