This book represents a classic compilation of current knowledge about mouse development and its correlates to research in cell biology, molecular biology, genetics, and neuroscience. Emphasis is placed on the research strategy, experimental design, and critical analysis of the data, disguishing this from other books that only focus on protocols for mouse developmental research. Selected chapters are indexed to electronic databases such as GeneBank, GenBank, Electronic Mouse Atlas, and Transgenic/Knockout, further increasing the utility of this book as a reference.

On April 27, 2015, I knew I needed to go to the emergency room of my local hospital. I understood that something was wrong with me, but I didn't understand what. Little did I know I would have to confront an unexpected, major physical illness. Would I have the "serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference?" (Serenity Prayer). My memoir traces my three-year journey facing a sudden traumatic illness that took a toll on me both physically and mentally and led me to explore many avenues in my search for renewed health. I hope this book helps others coping with a life-threatening event, whatever that may be, in their quest for healing.

Basic Steps in Planning Nursing Research: From Question to Proposal is the perfect introduction to the research process. It details the development of an effective research plan, and guides readers through all stages of the process from finding a research topic, to the final written proposal. It takes an in-depth focus on the planning process which makes it an excellent tool for beginners while still being relevant to people at all levels of study who need to develop a research plan. The Seventh Edition continues to teach readers how to prepare an appropriate question and topic and the steps it takes formulate a conclusion. All of the chapters have been updated with new references and current information including a renewed focus on evidence-based practice and an expansion of research ethics. Proposals are included at the end of the text to help students learn.

During the last decade, research in developmental biology has undergone a dramatic change brought about by the availability of whole genome sequences from diverse organisms, the availability of transcriptomes and epigenomes, advanced imaging techniques and the increased understanding of the role of stem cells in organ and tissue development and regeneration. These advances have been integrated with traditional approaches of genetic manipulations and detailed phenotypic analyses in experimental model organisms such as the mouse. This book provides a contemporary overview of the conceptual framework of molecular and cellular mechanisms of mammalian development, and a glimpse into future directions in mammalian developmental biology and its relevance to cellular and tissue therapy. Major areas of focus are transcriptional and epigenetic switches and the activity of genetic networks in cell differentiation, the role of signaling pathways, and tissue modeling and organ formation. Another major focus is on the translation of basic knowledge of developmental processes into stem cell biology, directed differentiation of pluripotent or lineage- biased progenitors, and the potential for regenerative medicine. This book is aimed at senior undergraduates interested in the scope of modern developmental biology, graduate students and post- doctoral fellows who are beginning to explore the mouse as a model system for studying vertebrate development and its relevance to human diseases, and established scientists in fields outside the traditional areas of developmental biology who are looking to apply their knowledge and expertise in new ways.

Much has been written about the state of Black adolescence—often from a sociological point of view situating Black teens in an at-risk category. However, through her characters, young adult author Janet McDonald (1954-2007) presents the wide range of adolescent life. McDonald especially presents to readers the multifarious views of society in relation to the self-efficacious drive of urban teens to rise above their circumstances by any means necessary. Janet McDonald: The Original Project Girl is a bio-critical study of McDonald and her work as it relates to the contributions she has made to the genre of teen fiction. It explains McDonald's profoundly realistic fiction, which holds wide appeal for teens in search of answers to the coming of age mystery. Catherine Ross-Stroud, in her study of McDonald's works and interviews with the author, has put together a comprehensive resource that will be a useful research tool.
