This Brief discusses a unique mechanism to combine historical and archaeological evidence with statistical geodynamic modeling to study the historical development of the Eura region in lower Satakunta, Finland; this region is known for its rich cultural history. The book presents methods to model postglacial land uplift and the historical landscape. By using coupled data, it is possible to narrow the dating estimates of the archaeologically important places and structures and to build a more detailed reconstruction of landscape evolution in connection with the knowledge about human settlements and their movements. This book provides a framework for understanding the creation of public value in urban environments. The ability of cities to produce value is related to their capacity to generate meaningful resources for city residents and workers that enable them to craft meaningfulness in life and work. Meaningfulness and public value require new ways of leading and developing city governance. This extends to designing inclusive structures and processes for people to grapple with the meanings and values underpinning public value creation. A public value framework demands that city governance goes beyond ordinary government to considerations of how to involve city residents and workers in creating and maintaining the common good. The common good is determined by an inclusive associational life characterized by deliberative processes and opportunities for social contribution. When acting upon their entitlements to make the city, urban residents and workers – as members of diverse civic, public andprivate organizations – co-create the meanings that facilitate the collective action necessary to translate values into value. The experience of cooperating for the common good produces meanings that people can adopt into a sense that their lives have significance and purpose. This is particularly relevant to understanding how to motivate just and inclusive sustainability transitions, especially as cities recover from the Covid-19 pandemic. Focusing on cities and urban policy, the main theme of this book is to elaborate on public values for cities and city policies, and to further develop the concept of the meaningful city. Sedan 1990-talet då stridigheter mellan grupperingarna Hells Angels och Bandidos inom mc-sfären uppstod har gängfrågan varit ständigt aktuell i såväl medier som i det politiska samtalet. Bakom de sedvanliga skildringarna av våldsamma uppgörelser, narkotikahandel och outlaw-kulturer finns dock sidor som mer sällan ges uppmärksamhet. Denna bok belyser sådana genom att ställa frågor om vilka personer det är som söker sig till gängen, vad de söker efter och framför allt hur deras avhoppsprocesser ser ut. Väl inne i gängen möter medlemmarna en annan verklighet än de hade förväntat sig. Det broderskap som söktes är varken villkorslöst eller jämlikt. Med tiden korrumperas lätt relationerna vilket tillsammans med konflikter med konkurrerande gäng, fängelsevistelser och ansträngda relationer till familjen gör livet som gängmedlem svårt. Avhoppet är dock ingen enkel process och kan kräva ett omfattande stöd. Vad innebär det då att förändra sitt liv, identitet och manlighet för att fungera i samhället utanför gänget – på vanliga arbetsplatser, i privata relationer och i inte minst i rollen som omhändertagande pappa? Med utgångspunkt från intervjuer med före detta gängmedlemmar och professionella porträtteras här en mångfacetterad bild, där gänget framstår som en kompenserande arena för framgång, gemenskap och manlighet – men också ett sammanhang som är svårt att befinna sig i och som man vill lämna. Torbjörn Forkby är professor i socialt arbete vid Linnéuniversitetet. Han har studerat gäng och arbetet med dem sedan 2005 och då ställt frågor kring gängens uppkomst och organisation, samt vägen in och ut från dessa sammanhang. Jari Kuosmanen är professor i socialt arbete vid Göteborgs universitet. I sin forskning har han ofta närmat sig frågor som berör könets och manligheters betydelse till social marginalisering och återanpassning, till exempel vid kriminalitet. Henrik Örnlind är doktorand i socialt arbete vid Linnéuniversitet. Han arbetar med ett avhandlingsprojekt om svensk urbanpolitik och områdesbaserade insatser. Verkstaden handlar om människor som arbetade på en mekanisk verkstad i Göteborg i slutet av 1970-talet då jobben fortfarande var ett hantverk. På den tiden beskrevs arbetare ofta som ädla, hederliga människor som var vardagens hjältar med fårade, allvarliga ansikten vars insatser höll samman samhällets fundament. Men arbetarna var mer än detta. De var människor som gjorde det bästa de kunde av situationen som de flesta av dem inte hade valt, utan som de hade råkat hamna i, framför allt på grund av det sociala arvet.
Boken handlar om en sommargästs möten med invånarna i Norra Hultseröd utanför byn Billinge i Mellanskåne i början av 1990-talet. Han lär känna Willy från Stockholm som blivit köttbonde och som suktar efter en arvinge. Han lär också känna traktens kvinnor som han tror är ättlingar till en häradsbetäckare från 1800-talet. Och han besväras av att kolleger på en dagstidning är övertygade om att han har inrättat ett kärleksnäste för tyska kvinnor i sin skånelänga.
Projekt 80 är en personlig berättelse om arbetare, förmän och tjänstemän som Svenska varv rensade ut för att de inte längre platsade på Cityvarvet och Arendalsvarvet när produktionen optimerades under åren 1979 och 1981. Många drabbade var sjuka, handikappade, alkoholister och hade hög frånvaro. De fördes över till ett provisoriskt bolag på det nedlagda Eriksbergsvarvet. Detta var möjligt att genomföra för att fackföreningarna kom överens med Svenska varv att sätta Lagen om anställningsskydd ur spel.
