Bondi Beach

Bondi Beach

Douglas Booth

Palgrave Macmillan

Bondi Beach is a history of an iconic place. It is a big history of geological origins, management by Aboriginal people, environmental despoliation by white Australians, and the formation of beach cultures. It is also a local history of the name Bondi, the origins of the Big Rock at Ben Buckler, the motives of early land holders, the tragedy known as Black Sunday, the hostilities between lifesavers and surfers, and the hullabaloos around the Pavilion. Pointing to a myriad of representations, author Douglas Booth shows that there is little agreement about the meaning of Bondi. Booth resolves these representations with a fresh narrative that presents the beach’s perspective of a place under siege. Booth’s creative narrative conveys important lessons about our engagement with the physical world.

Currently starring in CBS'S hit series DR CHRIS: PET VET in the US and delighting audiences in Australia as the host of I'M A CELEBRITY, GET ME OUT OF HERE!, Chris Brown is a man of many talents but one thing will always stay constant in his life; his love of animals. For this son of a country vet, animals have been a part of Dr Chris Brown's life for as long as he can remember - so it's not surprising that he has followed in his father's veterinary footsteps. It tells his story along with the funny, strange and sometimes heartbreaking tales of his patients and their owners. From the moment a trembling Rottweiler called Zenna is brought into his clinic we follow the progress of Chris's many patients as he treats anything from poisoning, snake bite, near-drowning and trauma to cosmetic surgery, and love gone wrong. They Called Me Bondi: an adaptation of Deep Down Under
The blustery south-easterly flung the salty spray over the starboard bow as the Daring Class destroyer, DO4 pitched headlong into the five metre swell, dousing the crew members scurrying to secure the foredeck. The Tasman Sea was living up to her reputation. Down below, off-duty sailors were either busying themselves with ablutions, losing their pays at poker or flopped on their bunks (or the deck) reading unmentionable titles. But most were in the mid-ships mess trusting their luck and hoping the numbers would fall their way in the twice-weekly ritual of Tombola. At this very moment it was hard to imagine that within a week, the lives of all 330 men aboard would be changed forever. This is a story based on real life naval experiences during the 1960s. It takes you on the journey of a young sailor's often chaotic life, punctuated by misadventure and unpredictable, sometimes tragic circumstance. You will share the woes of his excessive drinking, his romances and missed opportunities in the aftermath of Australia's worst naval peacetime tragedy and his transfer into the submarine squadron. This is an insiders frank account of life in the Senior Service during the Cold War period. The names of naval characters other than the author and details of some events have been fictionalised to protect the innocent, the not-so innocent and those who are totally oblivious to their inclusion in this story. This is a 'first-person' rewrite of the author's 2018 book, Deep Down Under.

A warm story inspired by my visit to beautiful Bondi Beach near Sydney Australia and experiencing a flock of loud pelicans up on me while I attempted to enjoy my fish and chips, a Bondi Beach favorite. It is a story of how the lone black pelican, appearing disliked by the other pelicans, evolves into a leader of the flock through his love and caring of his sick fellow pelicans of a different color. It all left me with a new perspective on sharing. Bondi Beach is a wonderful place to visit and the pelicans are a part of its beautiful fabric.

I am the youngest of 3 born in 1966 (back then). Australia was slowly finding its feet since English settlement (in 1788) so still a very conservative era because of that influence. My outgoing personality/nature from an early age was more 'Outside the Square' and as I grew up I noticed it more. Since a teenager, I've been physically and always mentally strong (looking back in hindsight) now 55. I was blessed with generations of women (before me) instrumental in my life and more so, forever a presence inheriting many of their qualities (genes). I have a kind (not weak) gentle demeanour, quietly confident without being 'full of or 'up' myself. I have an immense amount of empathy and like to help, I walk out my front door naturally smiling and chatting with those who feel like it. I strive with self-improvement (looking at the Woman in the Mirror) to be the best person I can be but not too hard on myself. I'm a Glass Half Full person. I am compassionate and romantic at heart. Although men in my life haven't always been good for both our reasons after years I am looking forward to being really loved again....not far away now. I put in 100% in every Professional/Voluntary position I was/am involved in. I have Swiss/German/Kiwi (New Zealand)/ Irish/American grandparents, ancestors and identify with myself each in me. I'm a Lateral 'Outside the Square' thinker, spontaneous, reactive and I'm quick on my feet. I love life, and travel and am blessed to have another chance to do a lot moreof it after my Brain Tumour/Cancer 10 years ago.
