When it first appeared, The English Rogue was declared a forbidden book on account of its gross indecency. Copies were printed secretly and sold furtively at alehouses until 1665 when it was properly licensed. When requested, the author, Richard Head, declined to produce a second volume as it was his belief that the text had been interpreted as autobiographical and his reputation had suffered as a consequence. Francis Kirkman, who had acquired the rights to the work, set about the endeavour himself and wrote the remaining volumes, publishing them in 1671. This is a reprint of the 1928 reissue containing Head's original book and two of Kirkman's added volumes.

När biskopen Erik Falck i Skara 1558 gav ut Een kort underwijsning om några aff the förnemligaste Articlar i then Christeligha Läron så var detta den första dogmatiken på svenska. Boken innehåller 51 kapitel där framställningen är uppbyggd genom frågor och svar. Av titelsidan framgår att boken i första hand var tänkt som arbetsredskap för präster som var satta att förkunna. I förordet skriver Falck om detta uppdrag att "intet yppare och ädlare werk på iordenne funnet warder / än predica och flrkunna Jesu Christi Euangelium". Även om denna dogmatik idag är relativt okänd, var den högst betydelsefull för reformationen i Sverige, och flera av de utläggningar Falck gör kom att bli riktningsgivande för den fortsatta teologiska utvecklingen. Vill man förstå Svenska kyrkans historia och egenart är alltså Falcks dogmatik av stor vikt. Originaltrycket till Falcks dogmatik är idag ytterst sällsynt. Genom denna nyutgåva möjliggörs därför för en bredare allmänhet att stifta bekantskap med ett mycket viktigt dokument frln 1500-talet. I två inledande artiklar av Marcus Hagberg och Rune Söderlund ges en översikt av reformationen i Sverige och det teologiska innehållet i Falcks dogmatik.
