Don't even get me started on that vicious pool-ball accident where she almost robbed me of my family jewels. She's a hot little heathen, and what's worse? She's staying in my brother's rental house while I'm temporarily living in the guest house. And now she needs a favor. A fake boyfriend. I'll dote on her for a few weeks, and she'll return the favor so my boss's daughter will stop nagging me. Then we'll part ways. It seems simple enough. Until we end up in the same shower. And then the same bed. The lines are blurring. Lulu's beautiful, fierce, and sexy all at the same time. But she isn't staying in Rosewood River forever. The place I call home is just a pit stop for her. My fake girlfriend has turned my world upside down. Suddenly, everything I thought I wanted doesn't seem as important. Now, nothing feels right without her.

The small-town, enemies-to-lovers, workplace romance from USA Today bestselling author Laura Pavlov. Henley Holloway is my boss's daughter, and I've been assigned to mentor her. Even though I'm not looking to babysit anyone, I'm determined to make partner at the firm, and this is the final obstacle in my way. So I agree to take the little princess under my wing. I'll work her so hard, she'll beg me to leave her alone. But from the first day she walks into the office and spills scalding hot coffee on my chest--I'm a goner. She's a Harvard grad. Her work ethic rivals mine. She's witty and funny and beautiful all at the same time. I don't want to like her. I have a hard-and-fast rule about relationships, and I will not break it with my boss's daughter. That's a hard no. But she's everywhere I turn, and I can't seem to get enough. Maybe this is why they say rules are meant to be broken. From the moment we cross the line, I'm done for. Henley has seeped her way into my heart--one that I didn't even know still worked. But sometimes loving someone isn't enough. I'm living proof of that.

From the moment my son came into the world--my life changed in the best way. I'd found my purpose. My reason. My heart beats for this kid every damn day. My company is thriving, and life is good. But then Emerson Chadwick happened. It must be the universe's way of messing with me when I least expect it. Our town's new pediatrician is gorgeous and brilliant and--complicated. I'm not looking for complications. To make matters worse, my little boy is crazy about her, and now she's moved in next door. She's everywhere I turn. I can't stay away no matter how hard I try. But Emerson isn't here to stay. This is just a temporary stop for her. And now my heart beats for her in a way I never expected. Falling for the girl next door is a bad idea. Loving her... well, that's as easy as breathing.

Someone who brings out sides of you that no one else sees. The reason that you try to be the best version of yourself. Savannah Abbott was my North Star growing up. She was my best friend, my neighbor, and the person who knew me best. But without warning, she was gone in the blink of an eye. My life began unraveling the day she left Magnolia Falls. Because apparently, when you lose the best thing in your life, it's all downhill from there. But I'm a survivor-- and I forced myself to move on. My guard went up, and my ability to trust people disappeared. Until the day Savannah came back to town--more than a decade later. And now she's acting like I'm the enemy. She wants nothing to do with me, even all these years later. Until she needs a favor. A temporary husband. I may not be the marrying type, but for Savannah, I'm willing to bend the rules. None of this is real, and she reminds me of that every day while we're playing house. I may fight fires for a living, but my new wife is a flame that I don't want to extinguish. She's the fire that's been missing all along.

In the doorway of an elegant New York apartment, blood seeps over silk negligee, over polished wood floors and plush carpet: a beautiful young woman lies dead, her face disfigured by a single gun shot. But who was Laura?

In a captivating departure, Larry Watson, "a writer whose work is worthy of prizes" ("Los Angeles Times Book Review"), unveils a portrait of faith, obsession, and enduring love -- and a work of greater tenderness than anything he has yet written. "Laura" Love captures Paul Finley, in, of all places, his own bedroom -- literally waking him from his dreams. The night he discovers Laura Pettit standing at his windowsill, Paul is eleven years old, a boy naturally inclined toward seriousness, precociously adept at the art of watching the world without being watched. Laura is twenty-two, a fiercely passionate and independent poet already experiencing the first flickers of fame, a beautiful woman on the brink of seducing Paul's father. No matter; Paul is smitten. When she leaves him to rejoin the grown-ups' party downstairs, Laura issues Paul a wholly impossible command, one that will haunt and consume both of them for the rest of their lives: "Forget me." Laying bare the inner life of one man during the course of nearly four decades, Larry Watson delivers a riveting treatise on the excruciating power of love -- and two of the most remarkable characters in recent American literature. Infused with breathtaking pathos and delicate grace, "Laura" is an extraordinary triumph of the novelist's art.

How do men imagine women? In the poetry of Petrarch and his English successors-Wyatt, Donne, and Marvell-the male poet persistently imagines pursuing a woman, Laura, whom he pursues even as she continues to deny his affections. Critics have long held that, in objectifying Laura, these male-authored texts deny the imaginative, intellectual, and physical life of the woman they idealize. In Laura, Barbara L. Estrin counters this traditional view by focusing not on the generative powers of the male poet, but on the subjectivity of the imagined woman and the imaginative space of the poems she occupies. Through close readings of the Rime sparse and the works of Wyatt, Donne, and Marvell, Estrin uncovers three Lauras: Laura-Daphne, who denies sexuality; Laura-Eve, who returns the poet’s love; and Laura-Mercury, who reinvents her own life. Estrin claims that in these three guises Laura subverts both genre and gender, thereby introducing multiple desires into the many layers of the poems. Drawing upon genre and gender theories advanced by Jean-FranÇois Lyotard and Judith Butler to situate female desire in the poem’s framework, Estrin shows how genre and gender in the Petrarchan tradition work together to undermine the stability of these very concepts.Estrin’s Laura constitutes a fundamental reconceptualization of the Petrarchan tradition and contributes greatly to the postmodern reassessment of the Renaissance period. In its descriptions of how early modern poets formulate questions about sexuality, society and poetry, Laura will appeal to scholars of the English and Italian Renaissance, of gender studies, and of literary criticism and theory generally.
