A Great Father's Day Gift MY FRIEND JOHN honors the household fixture that's often overlooked and rarely appreciated. MY FRIEND JOHN is a collection of off-color, ... slightly vulgar... sometimes corny... one-line wise cracks about the unsung hero who's always there to help us out of a tight squeeze. Intended for those times of undivided attention in the "reading room", you'll find it hard to leave this bathroom reader sitting on the throne.
Set in Australia, from the east to west and back again; it pays to be prepared for a long drive. Particularly for competition pistol shooter, Darlene Adams. A champion rifleman is hunting her. She promised.Ruthlessly ditched after being in a relationship for twenty years, Darlene Adams removes herself from public appearances to rediscover herself by working on a remote grain and cattle property. Her beloved V8 Jeep gets transported to Perth in a sealed container and awaits her arrival while she drives a motorhome across the vast rugged land of Australia. Wrapping her slender hands around the prized gold-plated trophy is her goal. Her favourite niece and another young woman are obscurely rescued from a kidnapping attempt in remote opal country, throwing a massive blanket of relief around Darlene's shoulders. A promise to be home for Christmas is just as critical as her accuracy.A life-changing interaction with a former SAS sniper provides the perfect opportunity to hone her long-barrel shooting skills. In a race against time, Darlene must return to New South Wales in time for Christmas.
An introduction to the theatrical art of comic storytelling that originated in the Edo period, Rakugo sheds light on Japanese culture as a whole: its aesthetics, social relations, and learning styles. Enriched with personal anecdotes, Rakugo explicates the art's contemporary performance culture: the image, training and techniques of the storytellers, the venues where they perform, and the role of the audience in sustaining the art. Laurie Brau inquires into how this comic art form participates in the discourse of heritage, serving as a symbol of the Edo culture, while continuing to appeal to Japanese today. Written in an accessible manner, this book is appropriate for all levels of student or researcher.

The fourteen paintings reviewed in this study chronicle industrial artist Howard L. Worner's interpretation of the steel industry. By employing ethnographic techniques to his art, Worner contributed much to the understanding of the 'culture of work.' Worner identified closely with the occupational community he was painting by becoming an observer as well as a participant. Over time, he developed a rapport with the community and an acute understanding of its environmental processes. Worner used vibrant color, on-location painting, and a deep understanding of his subject to powerfully depict the rich culture of the steel mills. This book will provide students of art education a better understanding of the genre through artistic ethnography and interpretation, as well as an excellent overview of industrial art.
Over 210 beautiful color images display, and text describes, traditional quilt designs and their contemporary counterparts, all produced on modern heirloom quilts from Pennsylvania's Amish country. These quilts employ changing methods of construction and new colors, but still honor long-standing Amish and Mennonite quilting traditions. Examine the classic patterns, including Log Cabin, Basket, and Nine Patch; as well as pieced patterns, such as Irish Chain, Railroad Crossing, Mariner's Compass, Pin Wheel, and Shoefly. And explore fascinating contemporary patterns (Bargello, Color Wash Trip, Stained Glass Windows) and variations on the Amish Lone Star. Readers will admire recent departures from wool and cotton fabric quilts in the duponi silk quilts. Finally, this book also provides a fanciful selection of new quilted pillows, stuffed animals, tote bags, and wearable art.
