When small children put on a pair of magic boots, they can be anything they imagine or want to be This book and it's five companion books (3 for Martin, 3 for Miranda) are bilingual (English and Spanish), in the Mexican context. The books were written to develop occupational aspirations in young children ages 2-6, in Mexico, other Spanish-speaking countries and in the USA. They especially benefit children of rural or low-income backgrounds who may not have exposure to job possibilities. Photos of two adorable children "at work" in some 44 occupations; simple definitions of these occupations; job requirements so children can begin to think about education and preparation; and suggestions for parents or educators for using the books are included. The little boy and little girl do the same jobs. Written by an emeritus professor of education with photographs by a retired kindergarten teacher who has focused on photography the last 10 years, the books are useful and educational as well as charming, with lots of material for play and discussion. Small children can easily pick up words in English or Spanish and can have the fun of becoming bilingual. Their little brains are wired to learn languages We suggest purchasing the set of all six books and making or finding costumes to support young children's play in being a firefighter, doctor, auto mechanic, or artist (among others). Because little kids want to imitate grown ups, these books should be very useful in the preschool or kindergarten setting in stimulating dreams and possibilities and in playing out roles of working adults. Martin had very little to live for. Every day of his mundane life bled into the next as the sole HR rep for a floundering department store.A wife who had little patience for him and a four-year-old daughter who preferred to spend time with her imaginary friend made his home life just as dreary.Finding himself with a rare weekend to himself, it's perfect timing for an invitation for after-work drinks with a co-worker who actually remembered his name and a group of fellow employees.Instead of the evening of bonding fun he had hoped for, he has a chance encounter with a commiserating stranger who sends his life barreling off course. When the drinks flow, misunderstandings lead to changes that cannot be undone.Waking up the next day as a vampire ends up being much worse than the hangover he expected. Even more so when he finds his undead life is much the same as when he had a pulse. The only difference is instead of dreary days, he's stuck trying to balance life and death between sunset and sunrise with an appetite for fresh blood. That is, if his sire doesn't manage to get them both killed. And to make matters worse, Martin's working nights now.
