Im 20. Jahrhundert wird die "Katastrophe" - verstanden als sprunghaftes Systemverhalten - zum grundlegenden Element der modernen Ordnungsstruktur. Damit wird die Vorstellung eines einschneidenden kulturellen Wandels in die Struktur des permanenten Wechsels uberfuhrt. Aus semiotischer Sicht werden in dieser Arbeit sowohl die "Grenzbestimmung" bzw. "Grenzuberschreitung" in kunstlerischen Zeichensystemen als auch die theoretischen Reflexionen Wolfgang Max Fausts zur Malerei der 80er Jahre als Phanomen des UEbergangs analysiert.
