According to the National Headache Foundation, over 45 million Americans suffer from chronic, recurring Headaches (28 million from migraine alone). Headache is the most common complaint for which people see Neurologists. Headache can impede job functioning and undermine a person's quality of life if not managed effectively. Despite this, research that would help in the care and management of Headache patients is sadly lacking. The Jefferson Headache Manual is a practical guide for the Practitioner seeking assistance in diagnosing and treating Headache patients. Written by the experts at one of the foremost Headache centres in the United States, the manual provides a systematic approach to identifying and managing all types of Headaches. Migraine, chronic daily and tension Headache, cluster Headache, post-lumbar puncture and high and low pressure Headaches, medication overuse and unusual primary Headaches are all covered. In addition, this handy reference includes chapters on post-traumatic Headache, associated comorbid disorders, Headache in the emergency department and regional considerations in the neck, nose and sinuses and contains up-to-date information on the latest prescription drug treatments, infusion and inpatient therapies, botulinum toxin and behavioral management. Based upon the Jefferson philosophy and unique experience of the authors, this comprehensive yet concise manual will appeal to anyone who strives to practise state of the art Headache medicine.Features of the Jefferson Headache Manual include:Practical, problem-oriented approach to diagnosis and managementExpert advice and recommendationsPacked with useful graphics, tables, and illustrationsDifferential diagnoses lists, clinical criteria boxes, and ""Red Flags"" help Practitioners make informed decisions quicklyCovers pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic treatments

This monograph evolved over a period of nine years from a series of papers and presentations addressing the subject of passive vibration control of mechanical s- tems subjected to broadband, transient inputs. The unifying theme is Targeted - ergy Transfer – TET, which represents a new and unique approach to the passive control problem, in which a strongly nonlinear, fully passive, local attachment, the Nonlinear Energy Sink – NES, is employed to drastically alter the dynamics of the primary system to which it is attached. The intrinsic capacity of the properly - signed NES to promote rapid localization of externally applied (narrowband) - bration or (broadband) shock energy to itself, where it can be captured and dis- pated, provides a powerful strategy for vibration control and the opens the pos- bility for a wide range of applications of TET, such as, vibration and shock i- lation, passive energy harvesting, aeroelastic instability (?utter) suppression, se- mic mitigation, vortex shedding control, enhanced reliability designs (for ex- ple in power grids) and others. The monograph is intended to provide a thorough explanation of the analytical, computational and experimental methods needed to formulate and study TET in mechanical and structural systems. Several prac- cal engineering applications are examined in detail, and experimental veri?cation and validation of the theoretical predictions are provided as well. The authors also suggest a number of possible future applications where application of TET seems promising. The authors are indebted to a number of sponsoring agencies.

Mermaids & Sea Monsters: Oil Paintings and Works by Michael D. Koch
Mermaids & Sea Monsters: Oil Paintings and Works of Michael D. KochThis book is a catalog of the paintings and other works by Michael D. Koch focusing on mermaids, ocean fantasy and the fantastic creatures of the sea. To tackle this subject, Koch called upon his long-standing interest in Greek mythology, his fascination with fantasy and science fiction, his love of comics as well as growing up in New England. Like unicorns, mermaids seem to have this odd yet warm affection in the public imagination. The painter regards this painting series and the Mermaid itself as a poetic subject that transforms the subject of the sea into one of legend and lore with its fantastic and spectacular creatures and oceanic beauty .
