Niels Bohr and Philosophy of Physics: Twenty-First Century Perspectives examines the philosophical views, influences and legacy of the Nobel Prize physicist and philosophical spokesman of the quantum revolution, Niels Bohr. The sixteen contributions in this collection by some of the best contemporary philosophers and physicists writing on Bohr’s philosophy today all carefully distinguish his subtle and unique interpretation of quantum mechanics from views often imputed to him under the banner of the “Copenhagen Interpretation.” With respect to philosophical influences on Bohr’s outlook, the contributors analyse prominent similarities between his viewpoint and Kantian ways of thinking, the views of the Danish philosopher Harald Høffding, and themes characteristic of American pragmatism. In recognizing the importance of Bohr’s epistemological naturalism they examine his defence of the indispensability of classical concepts from a variety of different perspectives. This collection shows us that Bohr’s interpretation of quantum mechanics, now nearly a century old, still has the power to shed light on a variety of issues that have arisen only since his lifetime, as well as decoherence theory and other non-collapse interpretations. Balancing historical themes with contemporary discussions, Niels Bohr and the Philosophy of Physics establishes Bohr’s on-going contribution to the philosophy of physics and examines his place in the history of philosophy.

As one of the most important authors of the Danish language, Jens Peter Jacobsen body of work is small, including just two novels, seven short stories, and a volume of poetry. Considered his masterpiece, "Niels Lyhne" was first published in 1880 and was instantly heralded as a critical success. Jacobsen's novel follows the life of the titular character, a dreamy and romantic aspiring poet who struggles to make sense of a cruel and indifferent world. Torn between a childishly idealized vision of what life would be like and the more practical demands of surviving in the modern era, the idealistic Niels evolves from an innocent child into a disillusioned adult. His journey of discovery is one of conflict: from religious faith versus objective reason, of romanticism versus harsh realism, and ultimately loneliness in a godless world versus the desire for love and acceptance. As a foundational work of the Naturalist literary movement "Niels Lyhne" greatly influenced the works of Henrik Ibsen, Hermann Hesse, Thomas Mann, and Rainer Maria Rilke and firmly established Jacobsen as one of the greatest authors of Danish literature. This edition is printed on premium acid-free paper and follows the translation of Hanna Astrup Larsen.
Jens Peter Jacobsen (1847 - 1885) was a Danish novelist. His second novel, Niels Lyhne, traces the fate of an atheist in a merciless world: his lack of faith is "tested" by tragedies and personal crises.
This book offers a discussion of Niels Bohr’s conception of “complementarity,” arguably his greatest contribution to physics and philosophy. By tracing Bohr’s work from his 1913 atomic theory to the introduction and then refinement of the idea of complementarity, and by explicating different meanings of “complementarity” in Bohr and the relationships between it and Bohr’s other concepts, the book aims to offer a contained and accessible, and yet sufficiently comprehensive account of Bohr’s work on complementarity and its significance.
