Are you still trying to figure out what went wrong with your life? Was it a job loss that started the downward spiral you feel helpless to escape? Was it divorce? Was it abuse? Perhaps it was the death of a loved one, someone without whom your world no longer makes sense? Life-changing losses slash across our souls and leave gaping wounds, wounds whose scars imprint our once-perfect world as boldly as a jet's bright contrail cuts across a perfectly blue sky. Broken, lost, and scarred, how do we begin again? Patti Roberts-Thompson and Carole Lynn King consider this question through the lens of the extraordinary personal experiences of Patti's memoir, The Language of Scars, grounding life lessons in solid biblical truths. The Language of Scars, a language of lived wisdom, emerges in our conversations when suffering, doing its perfect work, brings us to humility. Humility brings us to redemption, and redemption brings us to the river of Grace, where healing washes us and others as it flows over and through our lives. In ancient Japan, an art form known as Kintsugi sprung from a legendary story of the appeasement of an angry Shogun. The Shogun's favorite teacup was broken to pieces by a careless servant. To save the servant's life, the artisans of the court used liquid gold to glue the pieces back together, in hopes the cup would be even better than before. After gluing it back together with gold, the artisans burnished the cup to a fine glow, and discovered gleaming gold designs that could never be repeated or copied. The cup had become a one-of-a-kind piece of art. The Shogun was delighted, and a new art form was born.It is the same with us and the Language of Scars. Kintsugi creates art from what is broken in us. God's golden glue gleams along our fault lines, creating an intricate design unique to every restored life. When we bring our broken pieces to the Creator and Redeemer of our souls, our broken places become an intersection with grace, a place where His golden love and healing put us back together again, even better than before. "I am one of the Lord's many pieces of Kintsugi," Patti says. "Are you? Let Christ have your broken places, and he will make them gleam with His light. Kintsugi of the soul belongs to all who seek it. Are you ready? This is what redemption looks like. It is Christ who heals, Christ who makes our scars beautiful and increases our value to others through them. Let Him create art from your broken places; Let Him teach you the Language of Scars.

An influential New York salon host and perpetual seeker of meaning, Mabel Dodge entered psychoanalysis in 1916 with A.A. Brill, the first American psychoanalyst, continuing until she moved to New Mexico in December 1917. In Taos, she met Antonio Luhan, the Pueblo Indian who became her fourth husband in 1923, a radical union that forever altered her turbulent life. From the beginning of her analysis until 1944, Mabel wrote to Brill and he replied, yielding 122 letters. No other such extensive, elaborate written conversations exist between patient and analyst. This book presents a narrative organized around these letters, featuring the turmoil in Mabel's relationships with others, most notably D. H. Lawrence, as well as her extraordinarily candid memoirs, both published and unpublished, inspired by Brill's fierce insistence upon constructive outlets. In her correspondence, as in life, Mabel was despairing, insightful, insecure, and talented, reporting to Brill her emotional states, seeking his advice. With warmth and frankness, he offered opinions, affection, and interpretations.

If I'd had my way, I'd have loved to gather all of you, my precious grandchildren, around me, and tell you these stories in person. But I'm a practical old lady - living through the Great Depression and World War II made a lot of us of my generation that way. So I knew the opportunity to assemble such a widely dispersed and ever-growing population was simply never going to happen in my lifetime. So I wrote the stories down, and put them in a book. And here it is, offered in the hope that, amidst all the tumult of life, you will make time to read the stories and look at the pictures and, in them, to discover that you are a child adrift amidst a constellation of wonders. Life will be difficult, but never let it make you hard. Never become cynical. Never cease to believe the unbelievable. Never be afraid to be amazed. God bless you all, Grammie Crossman.

Of the estimated 5 million Americans who have Alzheimer's Disease, more than 7 in 10 live at home, primarily cared for by family and friends. Alzheimer's Disease: The Dignity Within: A Handbook for Caregivers, Family, and Friends was written in a workbook format aimed at increasing the caregiver's knowledge of the disease. As a result, these caregivers - whether family members, friends or health professionals - will be better equipped to nurture the dignity within people living with Alzheimer's and feel more confident doing so. The book is a tool for caregivers that will impact not only the way they relate to persons with Alzheimer's Disease, but other relationships as well.It contains information on how to take care of a person with Alzheimer's Disease by mapping out each stage of the disease and showing what can be done from a caregiving standpoint at these various stages. In addition, the book discusses how important it is for caregivers to take care of themselves. It educates readers with easy-to-understand charts and sketches on what physically happens to the brain during the progression of Alzheimer's. Its five sections focus on the nature of Alzheimer's Disease and on being a caregiver, covering topics such as tips for caregivers; challenges and solutions; changes in the brain that are responsible for the problems associated with the disease; and much, much more. However, the most important tenet of the book is that we can better care for people with Alzheimer's by recognising and nurturing the essence within a person living through the different stages of the disease. Both caregivers and people affected by Alzheimer's can live with a sense of dignity, importance, and self-esteem.

For sixteen years, I lived in "Rural Alabama Hell " When my husband and I bought a home on heavily wooded property, I had no idea what that meant. I was not expecting to live among critters, Mother Nature, and trees that shed something all year long. Every Saturday was yard day whether I liked it or not. There were funny and unique experiences and a lot of angst on my part. This book chronicles my time and survival on Rustic Trail.
