Critical Social Justice Education and the Assault on Truth in White Public Pedagogy
This book explores tensions between critical social justice and what the author terms white justice as fairness in public commemoration of Minnesota’s US-Dakota War of 1862. First, the book examines a regional white public pedagogy demanding “objectivity” and “balance” in teaching-and-learning activities with the purpose of promoting fairness toward white settlers and the extermination campaign they once carried out against Dakota people. The book then explores the dilemmas this public pedagogy created for a group of majority-white college students co-authoring a traveling museum exhibit on the war during its 2012 sesquicentennial. Through close analyses of interviews, field notes, and course artifacts, this volume unpacks the racial politics that drive white justice as fairness, revealing a myriad of ways this common sense of justice resists critical social justice education, foremost by teaching citizens to suspend moral judgment toward symbolicwhite ancestors and their role in a history of genocide.

USA TODAY bestselling romantic suspense author Colleen Coble and Rick Acker deliver the final book in their beloved Tupelo Grove series: Hez and Savannah Webster have survived storms that would bury others without a love as strong as theirs--but can they withstand the final battle in the deadly Legare-Willard feud that threatens to sweep away everything they've fought for?In spite of a crumbling university, stolen artifacts, deep family secrets, and deadly ambitions that have all stood in their way, Hez and Savannah have almost secured their second chance at happiness. But just as they're getting ready to adopt her nephew, two other petitioners also file for custody--both of whom only want Simon for their own gains. The legal battle to try to protect him is intense, and exacerbated by the threats to Hez and Savannah's lives. Between the financial company that Hez outmaneuvered to save the university from ruin and the bad blood from the head of the Willard family, it's hard to say who wants them out of way more. When secrets about what really happened to their daughter come tumbling out, it's almost more than they can bear. Will Savannah be able to find the courage to do the right thing even when it hurts her family? The Tupelo Grove series reaches its breathtaking conclusion as an enemy's agenda for revenge runs darker than swamp water and justice remains as slippery as quicksand in this heart-pounding narrative that underscores the power of redemption and forgiveness.

For Christians, pursuing racial justice and reconciliation begins with following Scripture and the voice of the Holy Spirit. Transformation starts in each individual and community as we ask God to give us new eyes and hearts. These five studies, adapted by Steve Tamayo, are based on the groundbreaking book The Heart of Racial Justice by Brenda Salter McNeil and Rick Richardson. By focusing on key New Testament passages, readers will learn how the early church engaged with issues of reconciliation and how we too can commit ourselves to discipleship, reading, prayer, community, and witness in alignment with God's call. As companions to the IVP Signature Collection, IVP Signature Bible Studies help individuals and groups explore and apply biblical truths found in classic books. Each session features quotations from The Heart of Racial Justice matched with Scripture passages, reflection questions, and application ideas that will equip readers to connect the text to their own lives. A leader's guide and list of suggested resources are also included.

This book gathers problems based on over twenty years of the Indiana College Mathematics Competition, a regional problem-solving contest for teams of undergraduates. Its problems and solutions are accessible to students in a standard college curriculum, not necessarily with Olympiad-level training. Problem sets form the core of Part I, covering myriad aspects of algebra, calculus, number theory, probability, and geometry. Chapters are organized by year, and an index allows easy navigation through specific topics. In Part II, the reader finds detailed solutions to the exercises. With revised solutions designed for a didactical approach, this book can be especially useful as a resource for problem-solving courses in college mathematics or as practice problems for graduate entrance exams. This volume is a sequel to Rick Gillman's "A Friendly Competition," which documented the first 35 years of the competition.
