Graphics made easy for technical and scientific authors Gone are the days of relying on graphic artists to make your work clear and persuasive! This book arms you with all you need to know to conceptualize, create, and incorporate the type of quality graphs and graphics that will help get your scientific and technical papers published. The authors, both senior staff members at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory, provide straightforward guidance on all the steps to using graphs and graphics to make your case. Some of the useful things you'll learn include: What kind of graph to use to make what kind of case Whether or not it is appropriate to connect the dots in a graph Efficient ways to use a variety of PC software How to embed artwork in a layout-and what to do if the graphic won't fit Why file format conversions are sometimes problematic How to edit diagrams for different end-uses Tips on how to get the best results without spending excessive time Real-world examples illustrate good (and bad) uses of graphs, and problem sets are included at the end of each chapter. If you're technically adept but not trained in document design, this book is an indispensable treasure trove of knowledge for making your papers publishable, your viewgraphs enjoyable, and your patents understandable.

Causes, Correlates and Consequences of Death Among Older Adults

All humans eventually die, but life expectancies differ over time and among different demographic groups. Teasing out the various causes and correlates of death is a challenge, and it is one we take on in this book. A look at the data on mortality is both interesting and suggestive of some possible relationships. In 1900 life expectancies at birth were 46. 3 and 48. 3 years for men and women respectively, a gender differential of a bit less than 5 percent. Life expectancies for whites then were about 0. 3 years longer than that of the whole population, but life expectancies for blacks were only about 33 years for men and women. At age 65, the remaining life expectancies were about 12 and 11 years for whites and blacks respectively. Fifty years later, life expectancies at birth had grown to 66 and 71 years for males and females respectively. The percentage differential between the sexes was now almost up to 10 percent. The life expectancies of whites were about one year longer than that for the entire population. The big change was for blacks, whose life expectancy had grown to over 60 years with black females living about 5 percent longer than their male counterparts. At age 65 the remaining expected life had increased about two years with much larger percentage gains for blacks.

This research work has found an innovative method of designing as adder which is efficient in operating with low power, smaller area and lower PDP. The proposed design was implemented in a Ripple Carry Adder (RCA) to compare the performance with other methods described in this dissertation. As the contribution of this work is primarily focused on low power and the hierarchical approach, gives knowledge about design strategies, the literature on hierarchical approaches for power optimization were given as literature review. 1 bit full adders like BBL-PT, ULPFA, TGA, TFA, SERF and regular CMOS methods were discussed as past adders along with recent designs by researchers. Though there are various design techniques existing with unique advantages, the circuit level approach has been taken in this research due to the scope for construction of a full custom design. The proposed MOSSI-ULP adder is constructed with the integration of PMOS and NMOS transistors as switches than the familiar logic families. This helps to reduce the application of supply voltage and hence power reduction is possible to obtain Multiplier which consume Low Power.
