Digital Queer Cultures in India

Digital Queer Cultures in India

Rohit K. Dasgupta

Routledge India
2017
sidottu
Sexuality in India offers an expression of nationalist anxieties and is a significant marker of modernity through which subjectivities are formed among the middle class. This book investigates the everyday experience of queer Indian men on digital spaces. It explores how queer identities are formed in virtual spaces and how the existence of such spaces challenge and critique ‘Indian’-ness. It also looks at the role of class and intimacy within the discourse. This work argues that new media, social networking sites (SNSs), both web and mobile, and related technologies do not exist in isolation; rather they are critically embedded within other social spaces. Similarly, online queer spaces exist parallel to and in conjunction with the larger queer movement in the country. This book will be of great interest to scholars and researchers of gender studies, especially men's and masculinity studies, queer and LGBT studies, media and cultural studies, particularly new media and digital culture, sexuality and identity, politics, sociology and social anthropology, and South Asian studies.
History of Marketing in India

History of Marketing in India

Routledge
2026
sidottu
The concepts and practices of marketing, as well as the ideologies that impel these, are rooted in specific social and cultural contexts, predominantly those of the USA, and Europe. Moreover, the Western dominance of marketing thought permeates it with Western values such as individualism and rationalism. This has led to important contexts outside these traditions such as India being overlooked. India has an enormously rich and varied culture and history, and this book addresses the need to understand marketing practices within this diverse context. Such an understanding will not only enrich marketing as a discipline, but also provide both Western and Indian marketers and academics with valuable insights into the cultures and behaviors of Indian consumers. By analysing historical writings on business in India from the BCE period to the current period, and providing a coherent narrative of the marketing practices during these periods, it critically engages with the larger socio-economic structures which influenced, and were influenced by these practices. All scholars of marketing history will find this a fascinating and unique assessment of a highly significant market.

CTL for Test Information of Digital ICs

Rohit Kapur

sidottu
CTL is a language that is used to represent test information. It is being developed as a standard within the IEEE framework. The proposed standard IEEE 1450.6 namely the Core Test Language (CTL) has its beginnings in the IEEE 1500 standardization activity as the language to represent test information about a core. The language has been designed to be generally applicable for a number of activities in digital IC testing. This book is focused on describing CTL. CTL for Test Information of Digital ICS is an example-oriented book on CTL that is written with the goal of getting the reader to think like the creators of CTL. Most of the explanations are limited to very simple examples so that the netlist (design) can be drawn out for better visualization of the concepts. There are two types of example CTL syntax in this book. Examples that explain the use of CTL and examples that describe syntax and semantics of the language as it is being introduced. This book should be read by anyone who is interested in testing integrated circuits. The contents of this book are especially relevant to the segment of the industry that is developing cores and/or using cores in system-on-chip methodologies.

100 Essential Indian Films

100 Essential Indian Films

Rowman Littlefield

Although the motion picture industry in India is one of the oldest and largest in the world—with literally thousands of productions released each year—films from that country have not been as well received as those from other countries. Known for their impressive musical numbers, melodramatic plots, and nationally beloved stars, Indian films have long been ignored by the West but are now at the forefront of cinema studies. With the prolific number of films available, it can be difficult to know what to watch. In 100 Essential Indian Films, Rohit K. Dasgupta and Sangeeta Datta identify and discuss significant works produced since the 1930s. Examining the output of different regional film industries throughout India, this volume offers a balance of box-office blockbusters, critical successes, and less-recognized cult classics. From early films by Satyajit Ray to contemporary classics such as Salaam Bombay and Lagaan, each entry includes comprehensive details about the film and situates the work in the context and history of the Indian canon. In addition to these notable productions, this book also examines key film directors and the work of major film stars in the industry. While many studies of Indian films focus on a single language’s contributions, this encyclopedia offers a comprehensive guide to productions from across the country in various languages, including Hindi, Bengali, Tamil, Malayalam, Assamese, Punjabi, Marathi, and English. 100 Essential Indian Films is an engaging volume that will appeal to both cinema scholars and those looking for an introduction to a vital component of world cinema.
