This textbook examines strategies of investing in human health and investing in economic growth as distinct approaches to development. It explores the symbiotic relationship of these tactics, and considers the applications and outcomes from a global, national and community level perspective. Each chapter introduces concepts of economic development and population health, and uses case studies to illustrate the same. These case studies include program and policy examples from Bangladesh, Chile, Haiti, Rwanda, South Africa and Sri Lanka. The textbook also examines the impact of macroeconomic adjustment programs, health care restructuring, investment in primary health care, public-private partnerships, and the challenges of program coordination and up-scaling in stable and conflict-ridden countries. Discussion questions are provided at the end of each chapter to facilitate classroom activities. Solutions are provided at the end of the textbook.

Tragic confrontations at schools throughout the past two decades are striking evidence that teens need help and training in peaceful conflict resolution. God knows each conflict a teen goes through--with their families, friends, and teachers--and he is in control. In this student edition of The Peacemaker, Ken Sande and Kevin Johnson show teens, youth leaders, parents, and pastors, how they can apply biblical principles to conflict situations, allowing for forgiveness and reconciliation instead of hatred or violence. With an approachable style that treats teens with respect, this much-needed resource can be used individually or as part of a small group or youth group study.

Mountain View is a tiny church with a white steeple found on Greensprings Highway between Ashland and Klamath Falls. Here, a group of unlikely congregants gather to worship and study the Bible beneath an enormous wooden cross separating two large windows with a view of the mountains and trees beyond. Before worship, we often serve breakfast to the kids from Wilderness Trails, a nearby camp for at-risk kids. Many of these kids have graciously offered their artwork for this book and we are proud to use it Lee Ann Johnson is our Pastor Joe's wife. She divides her time between caring for kids and grandkids, a menagerie of farm animals (including Max the pig who thinks he's a dog), working at a dental office in Ashland, and singing on the worship team. Lee Ann began writing these snippets of inspiration a couple of years ago and includes them in our Sunday bulletins. We all look forward to them so much that we decided to share them with you.Marleen McDowell and Sandy Cathcart are both seasoned writers who also attend Mountain View and have joined with Lee Ann to create a lovely gift book designed to grow your faith, hope and love through candid stories, real-world applications, color pages, and inspirational Bible readings. We hope you are as blessed as we are with these writings as we welcome you to our Mountain View home. Here, liberals and conservatives, alike, get along and break bread together, opening the Word and sharing heartfelt needs and prayers. If you are ever in the area, we would love to have you join us The coffeepot is on before and after every service.

Assessing Students with Poetry Writing Across Content Areas reimagines formative assessment by advocating for a dynamic, poetic approach that delves into students’ meaning-making processes. It is a guide for teachers seeking innovative approaches to formative assessment, promoting a holistic, creative, reflective, and collaborative learning environment. It challenges the limitations of traditional worksheets and quizzes, urging educators to move beyond seeking restrictive answers and embrace students’ texts as pathways to understanding. The authors put forward poetry as a vigorous tool and writing poetry as an act to foster deep learning across content areas. Practical examples of acrostic poems, haiku, and pantoum demonstrate the adaptability of poetic forms to diverse subjects. Through adaptable lesson plans that can be used across history, math, world languages, ELA, and science, the book encourages intentional poetic writing-to-learn activities and explores how poetry might present itself as a short, creative assessment tool that helps teachers see what their students know and can do while also offering them the space to make new meaning in their original poetry. This book is a key resource for in-service educators teaching grades 6-12.

Mad Max: Fury Road meets Alien in this exciting follow-up to the YA novel Titan of the Stars by #1 New York Times bestselling author E.K. Johnston. After the horrific events on the Titan, where ancient aliens were released on the ship and massacred or possessed most of the travelers, Dominic finds himself on the surface of Mars amidst the wreckage of the ruined vessel. He made it out alive, along with a small number of other survivors -- including Ren, a smart and determined ship mechanic. Against all odds, Celeste also survived the crash . . . but that should be impossible, given she sacrificed herself to save the others . . . Dominic and Ren attempt to start a new life on the Mars colony, but the horrors follow them there. What starts out as a mild sickness among the colonists turns into a full-on outbreak -- and then, half-eaten bodies are found around the base. Could Celeste have been taken over by the aliens, and is she behind these mysterious deaths? Despite their differences, Dominic and Ren must work together once again to combat an alien menance in this thrilling sequel to Titan of the Stars
