Martin knew what a Time jump felt like. It was fast, blip blip, that was it. This was different. It reminded him of the Time Blaster, an emergency, get-me-the-hell-out-of-here device. It had a rushing, mad, sped-up film look. Then he lost consciousness. Martin was dressed in a frock coat, a vest and trousers. A maid came in, said, "Good morning, Sir. Lord Burnside would like to see you, Sir." She led him down wide stairs, down a long corridor with paintings and candles, to a study. A blond man with blond sideburns looked up from his desk, smiled broadly, came to shake his hand. "Welcome, Mr. Fahy," he said. "I'm Lord Burnside. Have a seat. We have much to talk about." "I'm sorry, but I don't know you," Martin said. "I don't know where I am." "I know, Martin," Alan said warmly. "It's alright. You've earned a rest from labors, a chance to do what you love in this quiet place. No more fighting, no more wars. I am truly proud and happy, my friend, to give you sanctuary from the end of the world."

It all began with the end of the world. Martin Fahy and friends made their way out cities, past earthquakes, hurricane rains, frantic people with guns. They made it into the Adirondack Mountains to sit out The Fall. The world after The Fall was dangerous, but they stepped up to fight for a new world. Martin's people became heroes, legends, despite not particularly wanting to be. - Rendezvous With Destiny: It seemed like a minor mission. Just go to 1932, keep FDR from being assassinated, go home. Time had a different plan. It took more than a simple rescue. - Canyon Diablo: Who would take a vacation to the most dangerous Old West town? Martin & Chloe, of course. When they find buried nuclear missiles in the 1880s, things get complicated. - Ice Time: A conspiracy against the only civilized place left after The Fall sends Martin & Chloe into a war with the Soviets in the 1960s. - Ask Not: Martin gets his wish: the chance to save JFK. The consequences could destroy the world. Again.

In our 12th issue of Phenomenal Stories we celebrate, well, 12 months - a full year - of the magazine. We open with a sequel to the first wizard story - 'The Red Wizard' - 'The Blue Wizard' by J.D. Hayes-Canell. We also continue 'Time: Book 01: Timenami' by Shawn M. Tomlinson and the Hal Johnson Adirondack mystery, 'An Old-Fashioned Shooting' by Richard H. Nilsen. Next month, we continue our celebration with our Special Double Anniversary Issue. We look forward to the start of our second year with not only Phenomenal Stories, but also the sister publications, Phenomenal Stories Quarterly, Phenomenal Novels Magazine, Phenomenal Fiction Magazine and our annual best of, Lost Carcosa. Phenomenal Stories is a modern-day tribute to the science fiction/horror/fantasy/speculative pulp magazines of the 1920s, 1930s and 1940s.
Phenomenal Novels Magazine #02, September 2019, Vol. 1, No. 2
Just how many magazines can we create based upon the simple concept of a modern-day speculative fiction pulp magazines? Well, at least this one more. And then yet another, Phenomenal Fiction Magazine, collecting the short fiction of the flagship Phenomenal Stories. Here we are, though, with issue #02 of Phenomenal Novels Magazine, complete with a new editor. The novels we serialize in Phenomenal Stories are, well, phenomenal, and deserve publication as solo books, which our parent company is doing. In the meantime, though, we just thought it would be quite fun to produce our own novels magazine. And with four other magazines now in print, we certainly aren't over worked, punch drunk, sleep deprived or delusional. Really. So, here we present Shawn M. Tomlinson's second novel, the second in the Time series, titled 'Time: Book 01: Timenami.' It was serialized in Phenomenal Stories between March and August 2019. And it's a lot of fun, so it's well past time you started reading it, don't you think?
Phenomenal Stories Quarterly #04, Autumn 2019, Vol. 2, No. 3
This issue of Phenomenal Stories Quarterly welcomes new Editor Richard H. Nilsen and includes Phenomenal Stories #13, September 2019, the Special Double Anniversary Issue. Richard has been with Phenomenal Stories since the first issue and takes over the primary editorial responsibilities for the quarterly under founder and Executive Editor Shawn M. Tomlinson. Along with the anniversary issue, this edition of PSQ features the complete content of the July and August Phenomenal Stories. July was the first Special Issue, focusing upon author Robert W. Chambers. The cover of PSQ includes a photo of the unusual hummingbird moth by Shawn M. Tomlinson, and contributors include J.D. Hayes-Canell, Richard H. Nilsen, Haldor R. Hallum, Carole A. Tomlinson, Gary W. Ziroli, Savn C. Crishnan, H.P. Lovecraft, E. Hoffman Price, Robert E. Howard and Ray Cummings. Phenomenal Stories, as always, serves as a tribute to the pulp speculative fiction magazines of the 1930s and 1940s.
Phenomenal Stories #14, October 2019, Vol. 2, No. 10
Whew The anniversary issue of Phenomenal Stories hit the stands right on time. Didn't seem like it would until the last minute, but, hey, miracles abound. Things got back to normal and at an easier pace for this, the 14th issue for October 2019. We've got a new short story, "Horror at the Canal," by new writer C Chulainn Cavannaugh. It's the first in a strange series, more of which will be published in future issues. Plus, of course, we have other great fiction and non-fiction from some of the usual suspects, including J.D. Hayes-Canell and Richard H. Nilsen. We continue the classic and only Conan novel, 'Hour of the Dragon," by Robert E. Howard, and the strange early scientific novel, 'Girl in the Golden Atom' by Ray Cummings. Phenomenal Stories is a tribute to the speculative pulp magazines of the 1930s and 1940s, such as Weird Tales, Amazing Stories and Astounding Science Fiction. Shawn M. Tomlinson serves as editor.

Photographer and writer Shawn M. Tomlinson reconsiders the camera brand that got him started long before digital single-lens reflex cameras existed. In this 12th volume of Shawn M. Tomlinson's Guide to Photography, the author outlines the history of the camera maker, its film and digital cameras, and explains why Pentax still is a viable choice for the serious amateur, enthusiast, semi-pro and professional photographer. From the book: "I was a Pentax Loyalist for years, then a Pentax Apologist, then I rather switched that fight it anymore, then I began to re-appreciate Pentax. ... The point was/is that I write these guide books to help the less-than-wealthy budding photographer get the best equipment possible for the lowest prices possible. ... I write this stuff because I know what it's like to yearn for the newest, shiniest cameras and lenses, yet at the same time know that I cannot possibly afford them. I know there are a lot of other people out there who have the same problem."
Going Pro for $200: Revisiting the Nikon D1
You've heard about the wonders of the professional digital single-lens reflex cameras, how they handle, how they feel in your hands. You've looked at Internet reviews and sample images. You've oooed and ahhhed at every curve, button and dial on the pro DSLRs. Let's face it: you've drooled. So have I. But those prices. Yikes. Never did you think as a photographer enthusiast or wedding photographer or weekend photographer that a pro DSLR - a Canon 1Dx, a Nikon D3x or a Nikon D4s - was within reach. In fact, you can put your hands on a professional DSLR body and a lens for around $200 if you really want to know what all the fuss is about. No, I'm not talking about a Nikon D4s that, ah, "fell off a truck" somewhere. I'm talking about the very first, ground-up DSLR for the professional market. The Nikon D1. Many may scoff, but there are good reasons to acquire this pro DSLR that once cost $6,000 when it was new in 1999. The first reason is you can get one now for around $100.
Going Pro for $500: Revisiting the Nikon D2x
A while back, I wrote a guide to the first truly professional and practical DSLR camera, the Nikon D1, titled: Photography: Going Pro for $200: Revisiting the Nikon D1. That volume proved popular and I hope it helped some photographers to get started with their first pro DSLRs. The aged D1 may not have the megapixels of modern cameras, and it certainly has some frustrating menu items, but it is a fun and inexpensive way to get your hands on a pro DSLR without spending a lot of money. This book recently was expanded for print and adds details about the Nikon D1x and D1H. The thing is that, if you are like me, once you've shot with a pro DSLR, it makes you hungry for more. But those current models - the Canon EOS 1Dx and Nikon D4s (the latest as of this writing) - still have huge price tags that can bring tears. The best thing is that, used, you can put your hands on a D2x for less than $400 and get one of the best lenses Nikon makes - the Nikon AF D 50mm f/1.8 - for another $100.
The (Almost) Complete Hitchhiker in Time
The Hitchhiker in Time columns were the single most popular things ever written by Shawn M. Tomlinson, which honestly doesn't say all that much. All together, they appeared in fewer than 10 newspapers between 1988 and 2001. Well, multiple copies of those newspapers, of course. The highest circulation was approximately 40,000, so not exactly Bob Greene levels. Still, Tomlinson had a following with these columns and to a great extent, they hold up well today. Either that or Tomlinson would like to think so. Many of these columns appeared in chapbooks over the years, but this is the first full collection of them to be in print.

It has taken me 37 years to write this biography of author Robert W. Chambers. Along the way, I wrote and published many articles about him, but did not complete the biography until 2014. I got the idea of writing it when I was 15, and the reason I got the idea is the same reason it has taken so long to write the book. There simply is not that much information about Chambers out there. Despite his fame and thorough integration in New York high society, very little was written about him during his lifetime. This volume contains the Expanded Edition of the biography, Robert W. Chambers: Maker of Moons, as well as the collection of articles, originally titled, Robert W. Chambers: In Search of the Unknown Author of The King in Yellow.
