Perform chemistry experiments with skill and confidence in your organic chemistry lab course with this easy-to-understand lab manual. EXPERIMENTAL ORGANIC CHEMISTRY: A MINISCALE AND MICROSCALE APPROACH, Sixth Edition first covers equipment, record keeping, and safety in the laboratory, then walks you step by step through the laboratory techniques you'll need to perform all experiments. Individual chapters show you how to use the techniques to synthesize compounds and analyze their properties, complete multi-step syntheses of organic compounds, and solve structures of unknown compounds. New experiments in Chapter 17 and 18 demonstrate the potential of chiral agents in fostering enantioselectivity and of performing solvent-free reactions. A bioorganic experiment in Chapter 24 gives you an opportunity to accomplish a mechanistically interesting and synthetically important coupling of two a-amino acids to produce a dipeptide.

Retaliation of the Cursed: A Historical Investigation of The Origins of Worship, World Religion, Mythology, Paganism, Astrology and Atheism, and Their Contributions Leading to Modern Hinduism is a sweeping look at the ancient cross-cultural flows that worked to shape the long legacies of the major religions, right up to our contemporary moment. Primarily grounded in examining the Sumerian, Akkadian, Greek, Egyptian, Pagan, and biblical origins of various religious figures, practices, and beliefs, but drawing on a wide array of mythologies that stretch beyond this, this book is stunning in its scope and impressive in the rich, fascinating detail in which it presents its findings.Ultimately, author Stephen Martin makes a compelling case for the shared origins of the world's great religions, arguing that by reincorporating many previously excommunicated spiritualities and atheisms, Hinduism manifested itself as the complex, multi-faceted cosmology it is today. As well-suited to an amateur audience as it would to a professional theologian, this book is sure to make an excellent read for anyone interested in studies of comparative religion or ancient civilizations-or those simply interested in better understanding the roots of the religious beliefs and spiritual practices of themselves and those around them.

The Secrets of Successful Entrepreneurship: Start a Business, Grow a Business, Sell a Business
Would you like to become rich? Stephen Hawley Martin, an entrepreneur who founded and sold two businesses, explains in this book how anyone capable of getting and holding a job can become incredibly wealthy by following one of several paths he sets out. One path is to start a business, grow a business, and sell a business. Alternatives to that direction include keeping a day job and building a fortune by starting and running a business on the side, or by investing in real estate or other passive income generators. Targeted for those under the age of 40 who possess an entrepreneurial spirit, anyone seeking financial independence who reads this book will gain valuable insights about growing his or her net worth to a point the individual will be able to spend each day in his or her own way.Martin asks, "Why complain about the richest one percent? Why not become one of them, instead?" He writes that anyone living in America today can become comfortably well off-even very, very rich-by following certain steps, provided the individual does not wait too long in life to begin. This is true whether a person starts out with a mindset of scarcity or with one of abundance. The right mindset-a winner's attitude-is, however, vitally important, which is why he devotes an entire chapter to personal transformation and self improvement techniques anyone can use to create the mindset needed to attract riches. He argues that if you think of yourself as rich-that you deserve to be rich because it is your birthright-with a sufficient amount of effort, you will become rich. That, he writes, is the basic message of two of the most popular self-help, get-rich books of all time: "Think, and Grow Rich" by Napoleon Hill 1883-1970] and "The Science of Getting Rich" by Wallace D. Wattles 1860-1911].In summary, Martin shares valuable, hard-earned knowledge acquired over a period of forty years. For six of those years right after college, he worked in an advertising agency, learning that business and industry. He then joined is brother as partner and a principal of The Martin Agency, the ad firm that created the GEICO Gecko and "Virginia is for Lovers." He helped grow that business to the point that it was one of the nation's top ad agencies when the Ogilvy Group purchased it for an unheard of ten-times earnings. He then founded an ad agency called Hawley Martin Partners that was acquired by a New York Stock Exchange company, the Interpublic Group, following five years of rapid growth. For a while after that he was self-employed, freelancing for a number of years before founding The Oaklea Press Inc., a book-publishing firm he continues to operate today. Martin has ghostwritten a number of books, and he has authored 18 more under his own name. Many of his titles have reached bestseller status in their categories on Amazon. He is the only three-time winner of the Writer's Digest Book Award, having won first prize twice for fiction and once for nonfiction. He also has won a first prize for visionary fiction from Independent Publisher and a first prize for nonfiction from USA Book News.

Dr. Martin served for 40 years as an Ordained United Methodist pastor in the Western North Carolina Conference. He is a Vietnam combat veteran serving with the 26th Marines at Khe Sanh in 1968. He has been married to Shirley Bruce for over 49 years, have one son and two grandchildren. His family is now living their retirement in Greensboro, North Carolina. He received his undergraduate degree from Pfeiffer College, Master of Divinity from Duke Divinity School, and his Doctor of Ministry from Trinity.Growing up a preacher's kid gave a unique perspective on ministry. He has learned over the years that relationships are of vital importance for ministry to go forward. Usually appointed to churches that needed some relationship building, Dr. Martin knew that skills as a listener, putting others first, and seeing all of us on the same journey helped to heal past broken relationships and build even stronger ones for the years to come.I believe you will see his relationship with his congregations and those who called upon him to help in time of need between the lines as he spoke to the grieving hearts before him in each of these situations. It is his hope and prayer that you will receive some comfort, grace and peace as you read through and meditate upon the grieving heart.

The contents of this book can help you transform your life into the one you want. Anyone who is familiar with the great twentieth century "Sleeping" Prophet Edgar Cayce knows that one of the most frequently mentioned concepts in the material generated by Cayce's more than 14,000 recorded psychic readings is that "Spirit is the Life, Mind is the Builder, and the Physical is the Result." In other words, Spirit is the source of all life. The mind focuses that energy into creative (positive) or destructive (negative) avenues of expression like bright light passing through an image on clear celluloid. The result is that our thoughts and resulting choices will eventually find expression in the physical world we inhabit, affecting not only ourselves but our relationships with one another. This concept is the basis of just about every successful self-help book written in the past hundred years. In 1904, Thomas Troward presented a series of lectures at Edinburgh University called, "The Edinburgh Lectures on Mental Science." A true genius who was a century or two ahead of his time, Troward's lectures explain in detail why and how this law so frequently repeated by Cayce works. Troward also explained how an individual can put the law to work for his or her benefit. Unfortunately, Troward wrote his lectures in the scientific vernacular of his day, making them practically incomprehensible to all but a few academicians of his time. Now prizewinning author and noted metaphysician (Keys to the Kingdom) Stephen Hawley Martin has translated the lectures into plain English and included them in this book along with helpful commentary. What this boils down to is: If you want to create the life you dare to imagine, this book is absolutely a "must read."

To all considering this book let me add. Inside you will find the sayings offered by my grandson, Noah, between his second and fourth years. These saying were offered without any prompting - just from his heart and in the moment.I wrote down these sayings and just tucked them away, and then one day I decided to turn them into sermons for Lent. I had fun doing this and I hope that you enjoy using these sayings to make your journey through Lent. It is presented in a light, meaningful and challenging way.

I have spent over 40 years preparing sermons each week. It has been something I really enjoyed. The process each week was one where I looked forward to the planning, digging deeper into Scripture and find the ah ha moments in each text, the way that scripture speaks to us about the love an grace of God who kneels down to look us in the eyes, see deeply into our hearts, and lift us in his loving embrace. All of us are broken people, even the one who have the privilege to stand before the other broken people on any given Sunday morning and speak a word of mercy from God... a healing word for us all.I pray that you may find a word of mercy and grace which will help you to stand in the pulpit and speak that word to all the broken people you may serve, and lift them into the clearer and nearer presence of God.
