Lord, Please Don't Let Her See Me Cry is a true story of child abuse so atrocious I have suffered from it for over fifty years, having not only the endure the memory but also being forced to see the scars every time I change my clothes. I only survived because of my faith in God and God's mercy on me. As a child, I promised God that if he would see me through, I would one day pay him back by helping other children in similar situations. I hope this book helps bring the attention of the world to the problem of child abuse so that the abusers may be punished and the abused healed. Please help the children of the world. They are our future. Love in Jesus Christ.Steve Heine

Hague Law Interpreted

Hague Law Interpreted

Given the centrality of Hague Law to the lawful prosecution of warfare, the relative paucity of dedicated works is surprising. The general formulation of Hague Law rules is largely uncontroversial, but this clarity stands in stark contrast to their interpretation and practical application. How precisely, for instance, the fundamental rules of distinction and proportionality in attack are to dictate and constrain the planning and practice of warfare continues to be highly uncertain. This important new publication fills the gap in the literature. Offering a comprehensive assessment of Hague Law, it explores questions of definitions and accountability and navigates the substantive rules and their application to different types of warfare.

Leadership is not a position or a title. It is the willingness to recognize, accept, and act on our responsibility to influence others. Every one of us can lead, but sadly few of us embrace our true calling. Why is that? Is it the fear of failure? Is it the fear of being vulnerable? Is it the fear of conflict? If you step into the role of leader there will be challenges, but you will also be blessed by life lessons that will grow you and those you lead both personally and professionally. Each of us is an art in the making. Our life is a canvas. Everyone who has influenced us throughout our life has added to our canvas new colors, patterns, and textures. Every lesson you learn as a leader will continue to add beauty to the masterpiece you are becoming. Embrace your role as a leader, and every once in a while slow down enough to appreciate the piece of art you are becoming along the way. Lessons In Leadership: An Art In The Making provides practical and easy to apply tactics for any leader.

The Heidelberg Myth

The Heidelberg Myth

Steven P. Remy

Harvard University Press
2003
sidottu
In the first work to examine both nazification and denazification of a major German university, Steven Remy offers a sobering account of the German academic community from 1933 to 1957. Deeply researched in university archives, newly opened denazification records, occupation reports, and contemporary publications, The Heidelberg Myth starkly details how extensively the university's professors were engaged with National Socialism and how effectively they frustrated postwar efforts to ascertain the truth. Many scholars directly justified or implemented Nazi policies, forming a crucial element in the social consensus supporting Hitler and willingly embracing the Nazis' "German spirit," a concept encompassing aggressive nationalism, anti-Semitism, and the rejection of objectivity in scholarship. In elaborate postwar self-defense narratives, they portrayed themselves as unpolitical and uncorrupted by Nazism. This "Heidelberg myth" provided justification for widespread resistance to denazification and the restoration of compromised scholars to their positions, and set the remarkably long-lasting consensus that German academic culture had remained untainted by Nazi ideology. The Heidelberg Myth is a valuable contribution to German social, intellectual, and political history, as well as to works on collective memory in societies emerging from dictatorship.
Martin Heidegger

Martin Heidegger

This book sets out to explore the challenge to education contained in Heidegger’s work. His direct remarks about education are examined and placed in the broader context of his philosophy to create an account of Heidegger’s challenge. Martin Heidegger is an undisputed giant of 20th Century thought. During his long academic career he made decisive contributions to philosophy, influencing a host of thinkers in the process including Arendt, Gadamer, Sartre, Merleau-Ponty, Derrida and Foucault. Heidegger inquired into the deepest levels of human being and its social, natural and technological contexts. Although he did not develop a systematic philosophy of education, his philosophical insights and occasional remarks about education make him an interesting and troubling figure for education. Heidegger is of interest to education for his contributions to our understanding of human being and its environment. Heidegger’s insights are troubling, too, for many of the assumptions of education. His critiques of humanism and the modern instrumental mindset in particular have significant implications. The work of scholars who have expanded on Heidegger’s remarks and those who have been influenced by his philosophy is also surveyed to fill out the examination. A vision of education emerges in which teachers and learners awaken to the deadening influences around them and become attuned to the openness of being.

Husserl, Heidegger, and the Space of Meaning

Husserl, Heidegger, and the Space of Meaning

Steven Crowell

Northwestern University Press
2001
nidottu
Winner of 2002 Edward Goodwin Ballard PrizeIn a penetrating and lucid discussion of the enigmatic relationship between the work of Edmund Husserl and Martin Heidegger, Steven Galt Crowell proposes that the distinguishing feature of twentieth-century philosophy is not so much its emphasis on language as its concern with meaning. Arguing that transcendental phenomenology is indispensable to the philosophical explanation of the space of meaning, Crowell shows how a proper understanding of both Husserl and Heidegger reveals the distinctive contributions of each to that ongoing phenomenological project.
Normativity and Phenomenology in Husserl and Heidegger

Normativity and Phenomenology in Husserl and Heidegger

Steven Crowell

Cambridge University Press
2013
sidottu
Steven Crowell has been for many years a leading voice in debates on twentieth-century European philosophy. This volume presents thirteen recent essays that together provide a systematic account of the relation between meaningful experience (intentionality) and responsiveness to norms. They argue for a new understanding of the philosophical importance of phenomenology, taking the work of Husserl and Heidegger as exemplary, and introducing a conception of phenomenology broad enough to encompass the practices of both philosophers. Crowell discusses Husserl's analyses of first-person authority, the semantics of conscious experience, the structure of perceptual content, and the embodied subject, and shows how Heidegger's interpretation of the self addresses problems in Husserl's approach to the normative structure of meaning. His volume will be valuable for upper-level students and scholars interested in phenomenological approaches to philosophical questions in both the European and the analytic traditions.
