This book, written by a leading expert in the field of visual effects (VFX), demystifies the complex subject of color science and how it should be managed from project ideation to completion. Readers will learn not only how things work, their capabilities and limitations, but also the color science that goes along with them, in an accessible and informative manner. Starting in the real world, with an understanding of light and our human perception of it, the book then explores how digital cameras "see" and digitize the scene. From the capture of these images, the author then explores the fundamental concerns of storage, editing, and managing color images, including with OpenColorIO and ACES, the Academy Color Encoding System. Written for professional photographers, cinematographers, VFX, motion graphics and computer graphics artists, editors, and colorists, this book will provide you with knowledge of the upstream and downstream technology of your job that will not only give you a competitive advantage and help you to make better images, but also give you a real-world working knowledge of color science.

In November 1981, I teamed up with guitarist's John Clover & John Potter and bassist Steve Dyson and by April 1982, Huddersfield had a new band, The End. We prided ourselves on playing originally penned songs, but at some venues it was more about cover versions. So we accumulated a large amount in our locker from the 60s to the present day. Before the year was through, we had recorded at Cargo studios in Rochdale and Leader Sound in Greetland laying down 'Standing On The Platform', 'Time', 'She's A Winner' (all originals) and three covers. In Feb' 1983, we qualified for the Yorkshire Supergroup comp' in Wakefield, but by the end (no pun) of May I chose to leave. The story is fattened out with what we all got up to afterwards.

Put the essential concepts and techniques of digital compositing to work for you without the need of a single mathematical equation. Compositing Visual Effects is lavishly illustrated with hundreds of film shots, figures, illustrations, and diagrams to help the visual reader gain a valuable vocabulary and understanding of the full range of visual effects, in which digital compositing plays a key role.Beginning with an inspirational tour of the scope and magnitude of digital compositing, you get a solid overview of the kinds of digital effects routinely executed today. See how CGI is composited with live action, how set extensions are done, and what a match-move shot is. Following that you learn each of the key applications of digital compositing, which include bluescreen compositing, bullet-time shots, motion tracking, and rotoscoping. The subsequent chapters dig down into each of the major digital compositing applications, introducing the fundamental concepts, and processes behind them. Learn what is easy and hard, possible and impossible, and what to expect when working on a job that entails digital compositing. New to this edition are 4 new chapters on: 3D compositing, with lessons on what camera tracking is, how it is used to put CGI into a live-action plate, as well as live action into a 3D scene. Stereo compositing, with descriptions of key stereoscopic terms and concepts, lessons on compositing shots that were filmed in stereo (both bluescreen and CGI), as well as the stereo conversion process when a flat 2D movie is converted to a stereo 3D movie RED and Digital Capture with Log Images, including log image formats. This is a very hot topic these days. Colleges hang around video because it is cheaper. Film is still big in the real world of production. Tracking an entire project from start to finish. This is in addition to robust updates on topics such as: planar tracking, Z compositing, working with Animatronics.

In The Weight of the Printed Word, Steve Wright explores the creation and use of documents as a key dimension in the activities of Italian workerists during the 1960s and 1970s. From leaflets and newspapers to books, internal documents and workers' enquiries; the operaisti deployed a wide variety of printed materials in their efforts to organise among new subjectivities of mass rebellion. As Wright demonstrates, the practice of working with print was a central part of what it meant to be a workerist or autonomist militant during these years: one that throws light both on the meaning of political engagement, as well as the challenges posed by the use of technologies of communication and by emergent social subjects.

No need to travel halfway round the globe to spot iconic wildlife – it's right here on our doorstep in the UK and Steve Wright, keen amateur naturalist, travels from the Isle of Man to Norfolk, to the Orkneys, Northern Ireland and everywhere in-between on his various short holiday expeditions, clutching his specific wildlife wish-list for each trip. The result is an inspiring and engaging diary of his personal encounters with white-tailed eagles, otters, bottlenose dolphins, fulmars, puffins, osprey, sand lizards, even red-necked wallabies. And the characters he meets on the way. He hears snipe drumming, watches a shrew in Wales, admires pilot whales off Lewis. Steve's wildlife travel diaries give excellent practical tips, such as bird-hide etiquette, how to identify birds on the wing, how to consult local wildlife rangers about what might be spotted on each outing and where to find that species. But most importantly his highly-readable wildlife travels are a call to others to book themselves in to pubs and small hotels the length and breadth of Britain and follow his example, for a series of fun British wildlife safaris.
Quadratic Residues and Non-Residues

Quadratic Residues and Non-Residues

This book offers an account of the classical theory of quadratic residues and non-residues with the goal of using that theory as a lens through which to view the development of some of the fundamental methods employed in modern elementary, algebraic, and analytic number theory. The first three chapters present some basic facts and the history of quadratic residues and non-residues and discuss various proofs of the Law of Quadratic Reciprosity in depth, with an emphasis on the six proofs that Gauss published. The remaining seven chapters explore some interesting applications of the Law of Quadratic Reciprocity, prove some results concerning the distribution and arithmetic structure of quadratic residues and non-residues, provide a detailed proof of Dirichlet’s Class-Number Formula, and discuss the question of whether quadratic residues are randomly distributed. The text is a valuable resource for graduate and advanced undergraduate students as well as for mathematicians interested in number theory.

Based on lectures delivered to the Seminar on Operator Algebras at Oakland University during the Winter semesters of 1985 and 1986, these notes are a detailed exposition of recent work of A. Connes and U. Haagerup which together constitute a proof that all injective factors of type III1 which act on a separable Hilbert space are isomorphic. This result disposes of the final open case in the classification of the separably acting injective factors, and is one of the outstanding recent achievements in the theory of operator algebras. The notes will be of considerable interest to specialists in operator algebras, operator theory and workers in allied areas such as quantum statistical mechanics and the theory of group representations.
