Grief makes us uncomfortable. We expect the bereaved to pop a Prozac and move on-dive into volunteer work, organize a 5K, start a foundation-or at least get back to normal. But sometimes Grief has other ideas, keeping mourners locked in its grip for decades and erasing their self-image and sense of purpose.Say His Name: A Mother's Grief is the true story of a mother's deep, prolonged grief after the accidental death of her sixteen-year-old son Collin. From five grim days in the hospital to heartbreaking firsts and grief tornadoes that strike at will, Susan Glynn Robinson lays open her despair and paralysis and provides an intimate look into how death ravaged her family. It's not all sad. Collin's indomitable personality interjects light moments amid the pain, and you'll fall in love with the captivating boy who was taken too soon. Plus, the outpouring of support from the family's loved ones and community is inspirational. Most of all, if you can't step around the grief monster lounging in your living room, Say His Name: A Mother's Grief will reassure you that you are not alone-and you don't need fixing. As you follow Susan's quest to understand why children die and what happens after death, you will examine your own faith and develop your own explanations for life's unanswerable questions.

This story showcases the love and caring between two unlikely friends, the black lab and the robin. This is a true story of the Ready family's dog Ebony. She was the best animal companion their family ever had. She would sit with family members at the top of the stairs and listen to them vent and keep them company when they were sad and needed comfort. Ebony passed away in February 2016 at home with Susan and her husband at the age of 15. The robin did come back to visit that spring and it broke the family's hearts when it couldn't find its furry friend. Susan wrote this story in Ebony's honour.

Reubin O'D. Askew and the Golden Age of Florida Politics

Inside the reinvention of Florida politicsReubin Askew was swept into the governor’s office in 1970 as part of a remarkable wave of progressive politics and legislative reform in Florida. A man of uncompromising principle and independence, he was elected primarily on a platform of tax reform. In the years that followed, Askew led a group of politicians from both parties who sought—and achieved—judicial reform, redistricting, busing and desegregation, the end of the Cross Florida Barge Canal, the Sunshine Amendment, and much more. This period was truly a golden age of Florida politics, and Martin Dyckman’s narrative is well written, fast paced, and reads like a novel. Dyckman also reveals how the return of special interests, the rise of partisan politics, unlimited campaign spending, term limits, gerrymandering, and more have eroded the achievements of the Golden Age in subsequent decades.
Seeing Through The Media

The New Republic airbrushed a Hitler mustache on Saddam Hussein. CNN reporters described the bombing of Baghdad as "fireworks on the Fourth of July." The Pentagon fed prepackaged programs to the TV networks. Veiled Arab women became icons of an exotic culture. These are some of the ways the media brought home the war in the Persian Gulf as a national spectacle. Looking to old and new technologies for mass communication-from CNN to comic books, from international news agencies to tabloids, from bomb sights to the Super Bowl-the essays in this collection show the ways in which public information is shaped, packaged, and disseminated.

This important book examines the motives that drive family historians and explores whether those who research their ancestral pedigrees have distinct personalities, demographics or family characteristics. It describes genealogists’ experiences as they chart their family trees including their insights, dilemmas and the fascinating, sometimes disturbing and often surprising, outcomes of their searches. Drawing on theory and research from psychology and other humanities disciplines, as well as from the authors’ extensive survey data collected from over 800 amateur genealogists, the authors present the experiences of family historians, including personal insights, relationship changes, mental health benefits and ethical dilemmas. The book emphasises the motivation behind this exploration, including the need to acknowledge and tell ancestral stories, the spiritual and health-related aspects of genealogical research, the addictiveness of the detective work, the lifelong learning opportunities and the passionate desire to find lost relatives. With its focus on the role of family history in shaping personal identity and contemporary culture, this is fascinating reading for anyone studying genealogy and family history, professional genealogists and those researching their own history.
