Holistic Ice Sheet Modeling

Holistic Ice Sheet Modeling

Terence J Hughes

Nova Science Publishers Inc
2012
sidottu
This book presents the basic physics needed to model the past, present and future of large continental ice sheets. Minimal mathematical ability is needed. Simple triangles and rectangles allow a visual treatment of the force balance for stresses driving and opposing glacier flow. The holistic aspect of the book recognises that ice flow in ice sheets begins as slow sheet flow from high convex ice domes near the centre of an ice sheet, with most sheet flow converging on fast concave currents of ice called ice streams near the ice-sheet margin, and ends as relatively thin and flat shelves of ice floating in water or lobes of ice grounded on land.
The Bonhoeffer Legacy: Australasian Journal of Bonhoeffer Studies, Vol 3
The Bonhoeffer Legacy: Australasian Journal of Bonhoeffer Studies is a fully refereed academic journal aimed principally at providing an outlet for an ever expanding Bonhoeffer scholarship in Australia, New Zealand and the South Pacific region, as well as being open to article submissions from Bonhoeffer scholars throughout the world. It also aims to elicit and encourage future and ongoing scholarship in the field. The focus of the journal, captured in the notion of 'Legacy', is on any aspect of Bonhoeffer's life, theology and political action that is relevant to his immense contribution to twentieth century events and scholarship. 'Legacy' can be understood as including those events and ideas that contributed to Bonhoeffer's own development, those that constituted his own context or those that have developed since his time as a result of his work. The editors encourage and welcome any scholarship that contributes to the journal's aims. The journal also has book reviews.

The Game happens inside a very large Hadron Collider which is built by the Utopians Godisious and Luciferious to find the answer to a problem their people have. The Cycloves are a very dangerous species, intent on killing everyone and destroying every planet they come intocontact with. Having destroyed one galaxy, they are now on route to the Utopians galaxy. Needing an answer as soon as possible how they can accomplish this, they make a new multiverse inside the Hadron Collider that is in a stationary orbit above their moon. The Hadron Collider holds a number of universes, thousands of galaxies and millions of stars and planets. Everything within the Collider is minute, but the species that live inside it have noidea where they actually are. A representation of the Cycloves are put at the top of the Colliderand the humans lower down. The people from Utopia Prime enter The Game to take control of the units within it and get them to fight the Cycloves. The main two characters Darrent and Chrymella who are inside The Game, have to worktogether to find the answer before the Cycloves return and destroy the Utopians and everyone else in their galaxy. They will kill all species and destroy their planets. Why are they doing this and who will stop them?

The Campaign Rhetoric of Paul

The Campaign Rhetoric of Paul

Terence J. Rogers; Timothy Milinovich

BLOOMSBURY PUBLISHING PLC

sidottu
How should interpreters read Paul’s letters when authority and legitimacy are contested? This provocative study reframes Pauline discourse through the lens of campaign rhetoric, challenging the long-standing hermeneutic of trust and asking whether Paul’s arguments were always sincere. Drawing on historiography, metaphor theory, political science, and cognitive psychology, the authors develop a rigorous method for distinguishing authentic conviction from expedient persuasion in moments of high-stakes conflict. The analysis moves beyond abstract theory to close readings of key texts. Extended discussions of 2 Corinthians 10–13 and Galatians 1–2 explore Paul’s autobiographical claims, his portrayal of the Jerusalem apostles, and his shifting stance on the law. These passages are examined alongside rhetorical patterns such as military metaphors, selective self-presentation, and strategic appeals to revelation. By situating Paul’s letters within the cultural norms of Greco-Roman and Jewish traditions—where deception was often tolerated—the book illuminates how Pauline rhetoric may have been shaped by the pressures of competition and the logic of warfare. Combining historical-critical rigor with interdisciplinary insight, The Campaign Rhetoric of Paul offers scholars a fresh interpretive framework for reading the apostle’s letters without presuming transparency. It invites readers to grapple with the unsettling possibility that Paul’s voice, like that of many leaders in contested arenas, was sometimes less candid than tradition has assumed.

19 March 1944: Zsuzsanna Kalmar was just two years old when Nazi tanks rumbled into Budapest and began what Winston Churchill described as "the greatest, most horrible crime ever committed in the history of the world."For the following five years, Suzi and her family escaped death several times at the hands of both the Germans and the Russians who 'liberated' Hungary in early 1945 before imposing their own form of brutal oppression. Finally safe in Australia in 1949, Suzi struggled to adjust to her new life as a 'reffo', before enduring two failed marriages and the death of an infant son. Then, aged forty, she met the man who would change her life. Now in her eighties, she is still teaching future generations about the lessons of the Holocaust. Suzi Smeed has written her inspiring life story to keep a light shining on anti-Semitism because... history shows that it can easily escalate from bigotry to genocide if good people ignore bad things.PRAISE FOR THE COURAGE TO CAREI have known Suzi Smeed for many years. Her book is the bittersweet story of a child, a holocaust survivor, who learned how to love rather than hate. I like the fact that she is now dedicated to teaching new generations that same vital lesson.-- David Kirby KC, former Justice of the Supreme Court of NSW.Suzi Smeed has done an extraordinary and courageous job via her memoir of the Hungarian Holocaust. Not only did she survive the terrifying trauma and create a new life in Australia with its own story of triumph, but she also alerts us to the continuing cultural concern about the growth of anti-Semitism in Australia. In this candid and compelling memoir, she reminds us why we must embrace that responsibility. For someone to chronicle her experiences, as Suzi has done, demonstrates immense moral strength, -- Alan Jones AO, broadcaster and former Wallabies Coach.Against the background of the beating of the war drums in Europe, Suzi Smeed, one of the last survivors of the holocaust, tells her story of her escape from the gas ovens and the making of a new life in Australia. This is the history and the true memoir of an indomitable woman.-- Ian Callinan AC, Former Australian High Court Judge, novelist and playwright. This is a riveting account about the survival of a little girl during the ethnic cleansing of her community by brutal savages. Suzi's words convey deep conviction, emotional intensity, intelligence, and learning. She is the epitome of human triumph over evil, not only surviving - but thriving and making a difference. I am honoured to know her, and proud to call her my dear and very close friend.-- Brigitte Gabriel, Founder & Chairman, ACT For AmericaThe lessons of the Holocaust must never be forgotten. We are so grateful to Suzi for her personal and eloquently-told story, and for her passionate commitment to educating future generations. This story is Suzi's legacy and a shining tribute to the 568,000 Hungarian Jews whose lives were cruelly ended by evil.-- Jason Steinberg, Chairman, Queensland Holocaust Museum and Education Centre.

The books published about nursing ethics usually discuss issues that start with the patient. This book addresses the nurse's personal and ethical development as a prerequisite to patient care. The authors start with the assumption that most people want and need to care for others. The act of caring then places the individual in a position where issues such as honesty, faithfulness, compassion, fortitude and respect for others are central concerns. The role of the professional carer is elaborated and explored in relation to the development of personal integrity. Key features of this volume include an investigation into ethical issues related to caring; the replacement of the notion of service and dedication with personal and ethical development; and central issues of abortion, euthanasia and suicide addressed from the nurse's and the patient's point of view. This book is designed both as a challenge and a comfort to those in the caring professions who aim to recognize and resolve their every day dilemmas. The challenge is to achieve the highest standard of care - the comfort is in the acknowledgement of the problems arising from the choice between sometimes unwelcome possibilities.
