La primera de ellas fue en el mes de abril de 1919 y, acompa ada por su hija Ir ne, acudi como invitada al I Congreso Nacional de Medicina que se desarroll en Madrid y que cont , adem s de con una nutrida representaci n de m dicos de todos las provincias espa olas, con la participaci n de un selecto n mero de m dicos e investigadores extranjeros. El segundo viaje de Marie Curie a nuestro pa s tuvo lugar en 1931. Una semana despu s de ser proclamada la II Rep blica Espa ola acudi a Madrid para pronunciar dos conferencias, una en la Residencia de Estudiantes y otra en la Universidad.Una Marie Curie muy debilitada f sicamente visito Espa a por tercera y ltima vez en mayo de 1933. Lo hizo para presidir una reuni n internacional sobre "El porvenir de la Cultura" en su condici n de Vicepresidenta de la Comisi n Internacional del Cooperaci n Intelectual de la Sociedad de Naciones (CICI). Estos viajes ayudaron, sin lugar a dudas, a divulgar la importante labor investigadora llevada a cabo tanto por Marie Curie como por su marido pero sirvieron tambi n de intercambio de ideas y conocimientos de la ilustre visitante con algunas de las personalidades que, en cada uno de los momentos en los que el viaje tuvo lugar, destacaban en los mbitos cient fico y cultural espa oles. Marie Curie aprovech , tambi n, los viajes que realiz a nuestro pa s para conocer algunas de las regiones y provincias que m s le interesaban, as como sus monumentos m s importantes. Podr amos decir que, en ellos, ciencia y turismo se fundieron, aunque s lo fuera por unos d as.De esta mezcla de conferencias, actos oficiales y momentos de ocio es de lo que pretendo hablar.
