The world of mass media, in which a few, prime national outlets controlled the messages we all see and hear, has largely vanished. The giant boulders you once had to move to get coverage - Oprah, the New York Times, CNN - have been smashed by the Internet, supplanted (but not entirely replaced) by scores of pebbles: the web sites, social media, ...

I was 16 and was in the optometrist's office for the first time. I played baseball for most of my childhood and I was pretty good. I thought I had good eyesight because professionals baseball players have superior eye sight. So, when I say that I was surprised that not only did I not have superior vision, my vision was blurry and I had no idea. I played the position of catcher and I had adapted to reading the ball without good eyes. I didn't know what I didn't know. So, when I say that I put my glasses on for the first time and was blown away. Perhaps, you can understand. I turned around and looked out the window at the trees across the street. For the first time in my life, I saw the individual leaves swaying in the wind. I saw the texture of the bark. The hills, miles beyond the trees, had ridges. I stared in disbelief. The details were so clear. Everything was so clear and crisp. Is this what the rest of the world sees every day? What have I been missing out on? The world didn't change that day in the optometry office. The leaves have always been there to be appreciated, but I changed. I became more of myself and was able to appreciate life on a deeper level. Finding your purpose is like slipping on prescription lenses for the first time. Everything becomes crisp and clear. The color of life becomes more vibrant. Why am I here? Entrepurpose is a book inspired by 13 intense years of struggle to find the answer to the question. That journey took me through three depressions, alcoholism, and obesity as I tried to reconcile my life without purpose, without vision. Now that I know my why, I have experienced an infusion of life and focus that I have never felt before. This work has become my mission and I can enjoy it more fully each day. But, it came at a price. That price was 13 years. My story is our gift to you. Inside these pages are the tools and principles which led me to understand what I was born to do. If you apply these principles to your life, you will begin to see that every experience no matter how painful is part of your strength. If you feel different from others, a misfit perhaps, this book will show you why different is better than better. Maybe, for the first time, you will begin to accept who you are. Whatever the reason that brought you here, know that you are here for a reason. That reason can be understood and once you know it, you will have a responsibility to impact the world in the way only you can. Welcome to your rebirth.

In a quintessentially American game, for an organization often called America's Team, Dat Nguyen stands as the first player of Vietnamese descent ever to play in the NFL. Yet if asked for his job description, he would probably answer simply, ""I tackle."" He tackled so well at Rockport-Fulton (Texas) High School that he earned a scholarship to Texas A&M University, becoming the first Vietnamese American football player in school history. As part of the storied ""Wrecking Crew,"" Nguyen's tackling earned him All-American honors and led the Aggies to their first Big 12 title. And, even though he was once deemed too small to play middle linebacker in the NFL, he has earned All-Pro recognition with the Dallas Cowboys. For Dat Nguyen, though, tackling the various obstacles of life - not just running backs - gives him the most pride. He learned how to tackle life from his parents, who narrowly escaped from the North Vietnamese Army in 1975. Nguyen offers the story of his faith, his family, and his career, a true story of the American dream lived out, as an inspiration to others. He recounts his father's decision to flee Vietnam; the boat trip that took his family to freedom; and their eventual settling in Rockport, Texas, where a community of Vietnamese shrimpers established an economic livelihood using skills brought from the old country. He describes the racism his family encountered while he was growing up and how the friendship of one young Caucasian boy and his family overcame prejudice through an invitation to participate in sports. Nguyen's insightful look into the life of a big-time football player offers first-hand glimpses of the personalities and playing (or coaching) styles of many celebrated stars of college football and the NFL. His stories offer excitement, romance (as he pursues his college sweet-heart, now his wife), faith, fatherhood, and humor. Dat is a lively, engaging story of growing up in a refugee family, of big-time football, and of human struggle and success.
