Ruth, More or Less: The True Story of a Woman Surviving a Brutal War and Blossoming into a Figure of Glamour and Strength
She is perhaps the only woman ever to be married to a World War II, high-ranking German Panzer Commander and later to a decorated U.S. Army Tank Commander who served under General Patton. Her carefree childhood in Dresden, Germany, was followed by the devastations of war-the leveling of her hometown by Allied bombing, the combat death of her first husband, and the tragic loss of her six-year-old son. In her post-War life, she became a U.S. citizen. Her athleticism, beauty, andelusiveness made her blossom into a figure of glamour and strength.Yet ghosts from her past haunted her until the end.To author Bill Kopcsak, she was Aunt Ruth. For an American boy from a smallmining town outside Pittsburgh, she was one of a kind, to say the least. Everyvisit with Ruth proved she was one of the most interesting women in theworld-and one who always remained a mystery. Her story takes us on a tour of the darker chapters of the 20th century: to the1936 Berlin Olympic games as a member of the Hitler Youth, to the battlefieldsof Europe during and after the war, and to pastoral Bavaria, home to theremnants of the infamous Dachau concentration camp. The enigma of who Ruth was would stretch beyond her death. To frustrate, sure, but always to fascinate. Because somewhere in her story lies the keyto survival: of a brutal war, of terrible personal losses, and of secrets too shameful for the world. This is Ruth, More of Les

This book explains the Book of Ruth with related scriptures and retellings of her story in thoughtful circumstances. Author Jorge Vasquez places Ruth in different and interesting situations to deepen your awareness of biblical themes, values and last, but not least, Ruth. This both reveals Dr. Vasquez's knowledge of the subject and his ability to think critically to make Ruth a character easy to connect with. He brings into account Ruth's character and nature as he includes new insights from the Old Testament and creates impactful stories to uplift and inspire you. Through his unconventional interpretation, he connects the story with socio-political themes and has an uncanny ability to empathize with Ruth, despite the gender difference. Vasquez's skill to speak from personal experiences as someone from an immigrant family adds depth to the reading, and his effective art of storytelling helps bring Ruth's nature to life.

Ruth Hall: A Domestic Tale of the Present TIme (Penguin Classics) Reprint Edition by Fanny Fern n Ruth Hall, one of the bestselling novels of the 1850s, Fanny Fern drew heavily on her own experiences: the death of her first child and her beloved husband, a bitter estrangement from her family, and her struggle to make a living as a writer. Ruth Hall: A Domestic Tale of the Present Time by Fanny Fern. Ruth Hall: A Domestic Tale of the Present Time is a roman clef by Fanny Fern (pen name of Sara Payson Willis), a popular 19th-century newspaper writer. Following on her meteoric rise to fame as a columnist, she signed a contract in February 1854 to write a full-length novel. She finished Ruth Hall within a few months, and it was first published in November 1854. The autobiographical novel can be divided into three phases: Ruth's happy marriage, impoverished widowhood, and rise to fame and financial independence as a newspaper columnist. I present you with my first continuous story. I do not dignify it by the name of "A novel." I am aware that it is entirely at variance with all set rules for novel-writing. There is no intricate plot; there are no startling developments, no hair-breadth escapes. I have compressed into one volume what I might have expanded into two or three. I have avoided long introductions and descriptions, and have entered unceremoniously and unannounced, into people's houses, without stopping to ring the bell. Whether you will fancy this primitive mode of calling, whether you will like the company to which it introduces you, or-whether you will like the book at all, I cannot tell. Still, I cherish the hope that, somewhere in the length and breadth of the land, it may fan into a flame, in some tried heart, the fading embers of hope, well-nigh extinguished by wintry fortune and summer friends.

The gray dust, spurting from beneath the treads of the rapidly turning wheels, drifted across the country road to settle on the wayside hedges. The purring of the engine of Helen Cameron's car betrayed the fact that it was tuned to perfection. If there were any rough spots in the road being traveled, the shock absorbers took care of them. "Dear me I always do love to ride in Nell's car," said the plump and pretty girl who occupied more than her share of the rear seat. "Even if Tom isn't here to take care of it, it always is so comfy." "Only one thing would suit you better, Heavy," declared the sharp-featured and sharp-tongued girl sitting next to Jennie Stone. "If only a motor could be connected to a rocking-chair-" "Right-o " agreed the cheerful plump girl. "And have it on a nice shady porch. I'd like to travel that way just as well. After our experience in France we ought to be allowed to travel in comfort for the rest of our lives. Isn't that so, Nell? And you agree, Ruthie?" The girl at the wheel of the flying automobile nodded only, for she needed to keep her gaze fixed ahead. But the brown-haired, brown-eyed girl, whose quiet face seemed rather wistful, turned to smile upon the volatile-and voluble-Heavy Stone, so nicknamed during their early school days at Briarwood Hall.
