The Lord Stewartby Collection of Scottish Coins at the Hunterian, University of Glasgow
Covering the period 1390-1488, MacKay publishes the second portion of the Lord Stewartby Collection, the most important collection of Scottish coins ever put together by a private individual. Shortly before his death in March 2018, the collection was gifted to The Hunterian at the University of Glasgow. Comprising 5000 coins, the collection was formed between c. 1950 and c. 2010 by Ian Stewart, a banker and later a politician, initially as a Member of Parliament 1974-92 and from 1992 sitting in the House of Lords as Lord Stewartby. He was a highly regarded numismatist and the foremost scholar of Scottish coins in his generation. Excerpt from The Song of the Stewarts: Prelude Poetry is always its own explanation, for a poet is either articulate, and therefore to be understood, or he is inarticulate, and to that extent not a poet. All themes are equal in themselves. Their aesthetic values lie in the intensity of their appeal to the poet or artist. To me the deeds of the Stewarts appeal more intensely than any other theme. Here I have seen the ancient House in crimson blossom on the fields of Falkirk and of Bannockburn, and in Robert II., son of the Lord High Stewart and grandson of Robert Brus, giving the first Stewart king to History. The Lord Stewartby Collection of Scottish Coins at the Hunterian, University of Glasgow, Part III
The Lord Stewartby collection represents the finest collection of Scottish coins ever put together by a private individual. Now housed in the Hunterian at the University of Glasgow, it covers the entire history of Scottish coinage from the twelfth to eighteenth centuries. This volume, the third to be published, presents coins from the later reign of Alexander III to the death of Robert II (1280 to 1390). These coins reflect a dramatic, formative period in Scottish history. It saw several periods of conflict with England, as well as the establishment of a new dynasty whose coinage showed several innovations, including the first large silver groats and the first issues in gold. The material presented in this volume constitutes a vivid, rich record of medieval Scotland’s economy and government, laid out for use by all specialists in its archaeology, coinage and history.

Forever remembered as one of the most dramatic storylines in the history of golf, Payne Stewart's phenomenal career was bookended by a brass and colorful start and an inspired comeback with a shocking, tragic end.Written off as a pompous showman past the prime of his career, Stewart emerged from a long slump in the unforgettable season of 1999 to capture the U.S. Open and play on the victorious U.S. Ryder Cup team. He appeared to be a new man that summer: wiser, deeper, and on the verge of a new level of greatness. Then his journey to redemption ended in October, when his chartered Learjet flew aimlessly for more than a thousand miles, ran out of fuel, and fell to earth in a prairie in South Dakota. His death marked the end of an era, one made up of "shotmakers" who played the game with artistry, guile, finesse, and heart. Behind them were Tiger Woods, David Duval, Phil Mickelson, and other young players whose power and strength changed the PGA Tour forever. With exclusive access to Stewart's friends, family, and onetime colleagues, Kevin Robbins provides a long-overdue portrait of one of golf's greats in one of golf's greatest seasons
