The first volume to showcase both Lincoln Center's fabulous public art and the List Poster and Print collection, Art at Lincoln Center begins with a tour of the campus and the art that has been collected since its inception. A brief history of how the pieces were selected and brought to Lincoln Center follows (featuring Frank Stanton, David Rockefeller, and Philip Johnson who were the leading figures in building the collection) with charming anecdotes about the artists and the politics behind the selections of the artists and their works. The story of the creation of the List collection, with a focus on Vera List's formidable role, close the text portion of the book. Art in Organic Synthesis

Art in Organic Synthesis

More than any other branch of organic chemistry, synthesis has improved our understanding of the structure, dynamics, and transition of molecules. The availability of sophisticated tools and new techniques has made organic synthesis more challenging than ever for those in the field. This updated edition of the 1970 work highlights significant and intriguing synthetic achievements: their ingenuity in design, extent of stereochemical control, new reactions, and new reagents. Approximately 100 examples illustrate various aspects of organic synthesis, with particular emphasis on bond-making and bond-breaking, dissymetry, conformation, and stereoelectric considerations. Each describes the synthesis of a natural product or of an unusual or strained molecule. Numerous flow sheets and perspective structural formulas illustrate the force of arguments predicting the stereochemical outcome of important steps. Also included is a type-transformation index which highlights some less common reactions.
Art of the Long View

Art of the Long View

Peter Schwartz

"Artful scenario spinning is a form of convergent thinking about divergent futures. It ensures that you are not always right about the future but—better—that you are almost never wrong about the future. The technology is powerful, simple, and enjoyable, and so is Schwartz’s book." —Stewart Brand What increasingly affects all of us, whether professional planners or individuals preparing for a better future, is not the tangibles of life—bottom-line numbers, for instance—but the intangibles: our hopes and fears, our beliefs and dreams. Only stories—scenarios—and our ability to visualize different kinds of futures adequately capture these intangibles. In The Art of the Long View, now for the first time in paperback and with the addition of an all-new User’s Guide, Peter Schwartz outlines the "scenaric" approach, giving you the tools for developing a strategic vision within your business. Schwartz describes the new techniques, originally developed within Royal/Dutch Shell, based on many of his firsthand scenario exercises with the world’s leading institutions and companies, including the White House, EPA, BellSouth, PG&E, and the International Stock Exchange.
Art and the Market

Art and the Market

Craufurd D. Goodwin

The University of Michigan Press
1998
sidottu
Roger Fry, a core member of the Bloomsbury Group, was involved with all aspects of the art market as artist, critic, curator, historian, journalist, advisor to collectors, and gallery operator. He is especially remembered as the person who introduced postimpressionist art to Britain. Reprinted in this volume are seventeen of Fry's works on commerce in art. Although he had no formal training in economics, Fry addressed the art market as a modern economist might do. It is therefore fitting that his writings receive here an original interpretation from the perspective of a modern economist, Craufurd D. Goodwin. Goodwin explores why Fry's work is both a landmark in the history of cross-disciplinary thought and a source of fresh insights into a wide range of current policy questions. The new writings included contain Fry's most important contributions to theory, history, and debates over policy as he explored the determinants of the supply of art, the demand for art, and the art market institutions that facilitate exchange. His ideas and speculations are as stimulating and provocative today as when they were written."A fascinating selection of essays by one of the twentieth century's most thoughtful and stimulating critics. Goodwin's introduction sets the stage beautifully, providing useful links to Veblen and Keynes." --D. E. Moggridge, University of Toronto"Art and the Market uncovers new connections between aesthetics and art in the Bloomsbury Group. . . . Goodwin adds significantly to the understanding of cultural economics in the work of Fry himself as well as J. M. Keynes and even Leonard and Virginia Woolf." --S. P. Rosenbaum, University of Toronto"All those interested in the arts and economics, and their connections, will be delighted by this collection, as will be students of Bloomsbury." --Peter Stansky, Stanford UniversityCraufurd D. Goodwin is James B. Duke Professor of Economics, Duke University.

ART ARTIST ARTICLES (1972-2024) is the Catalogue for an Exhibition by Roger Peters held during February/March 2026 across the Percy Thomson Gallery and Stratford District Library in Stratford, New Zealand. It features thirty-three items displayed adjacent to Press Clippings or Publications about his Art from 1972 to 2021, and his discovery in 1995 of Shakespeare's Sonnet philosophy. The works from the 1970s were created in Auckland, while the works from 1990 to 2021 were created in Taranaki. The years from the 1970s to the 1990s were spent researching the mythic rationale behind the art of Marcel Duchamp, the philosophy of Ludwig Wittgenstein and the biology of Charles Darwin. This led in 1995 to the first-ever appreciation of William Shakespeare's brilliant nature-based philosophy, evident in his 1609 Sonnets. After publishing nine books on Shakespeare's philosophy from 2005, Peters returned to exhibiting art in 2021.
