This story tells the life of the author and his pet cat, C. J. At the age of fifty, the author found C. J., as a baby kitten, abandoned in his backyard. This is a remarkable book. Its title could lead you to believe it is meant for caregivers-and it certainly is The authors felt that people who have stepped up to the responsibility of caring for someone else have not been fully recognized within the patient care experience. This volume is sort of a hug to tell them: "We know you are coping with a difficult situation and these words are meant to warmly acknowledge what you do". However, it might as well have been called E is for Everybody, because its message fits anyone going through that raw and oh-so-personal journey called life. Within its covers there is no rigorous, academic advice armed with footnotes and references. Not one bit. C is for Caregiver is far more relaxed and can be loosely described as an inspirational alphabet book for all. I suggest you sip it like a comforting cup of your favorite beverage. That means give yourself the time and space to enjoy its texts and images as they present their joint performance one letter at a time. Having said that, just flip this page and let the show begin.

Understanding C.S. Lewis's vocation is essential for reading his works well, as is knowing how he came to it: his long and winding philosophical journey and reoccurring experiences of 'Joy.' Lewis discounted 'proofs' in philosophical theology but offered key arguments in support of theism per se, and Christianity in particular. His account of “mere Christianity” shows the centrality of self-determination, an emphasis on Christ's human nature, and a relativizing of atonement theories. Finally, Lewis's understanding of faith, his attempts to make sense of petitionary and imprecatory prayers, and his emphasis on theosis/deification, are considered.

Lewis was someone who did not think highly of climates of opinion, and in his book The Problem of Pain he warned against uncritically going along with them: 'I take a very low view of 'climates of opinion'. In his own subject every man knows that all discoveries are made and all errors corrected by those who ignore the 'climate of opinion'.' A climate of opinion exists today that either intentionally or unintentionally disenchants or debunks C. S. Lewis. In this Element, the author explains Lewis' belief in the existence of the soul and how it related to his conviction that happiness consists of experiences of pleasure and is the purpose of life, God exists, and Christianity is true.
