Al igual que la mayor a de los sentimientos que experimentamos, es algo muy dif cil de explicar "cient ficamente" o desde un punto de vista "objetivo". Es algo que hay que vivir y experimentar en carne propia para poder empezar a entender aunque sea parcial o moment neamente lo que significa y por qu la mayor a de nosotros lo busca y anhela. El amor nos completa... nos hace sentir vivos y nos lleva a ver la vida desde una ptica diferente. Todo es maravilloso, sentimos que flotamos en las nubes, y la vida es un para so cuando nuestro amor es correspondido, y nos sentimos aplastados, sufrimos y todo nos molesta o deprime cuando ese amor nos desprecia o ignora. No es de extra ar que en ciertos c rculos se considere al enamoramiento como una locura temporal, y lo decimos en serio cuando comentamos "estoy loco por ella". Las canciones y poemas que m s nos conmueven son los que tienen al amor como tema central, porque podemos identificarnos con el lenguaje que utilizan y las emociones que evocan. Pero as como quiz s muchos de nosotros podemos decir que de alguna manera es cierta la definici n de locura, creo que todos estamos de acuerdo en que el enamoramiento es temporal... esa primera etapa de pasi n y emociones intensas y en muchos casos incontrolables, se desvanece para dar paso al amor, un sentimiento m s "normal" que no consume toda nuestra atenci n y pensamientos. Pasamos de querer pasar cada segundo con la persona de quien estamos enamorados, y pensar obsesionadamente en ella, a pensar espor dicamente en la persona a quien amamos, mientras estamos separados y dedicando nuestra atenci n a nuestras actividades diarias. Podr a decirse que "nos acostumbramos" a ese sentimiento, y como ocurre con todo lo rutinario, podemos dejar de prestarle atenci n. Si eso sucede, es muy f cil pensar que hemos dejado de amar a la persona que amamos, o que ella ha dejado de amarnos a nosotros. Pero, es esto cierto?

Recent developments in nanostructured materials have led to a shift in focus away from the replacement of tissues and towards regeneration. Nanoceramics with biomimetic properties have great potential in bone regeneration and new synthesis strategies have been developed to obtain materials with improved biocompatibility and multifunctional performance. The aim is to develop fully biocompatible implants, which exhibit biological responses at the nanometric scale in the same way that biogenic materials do. Current man-made implants are not fully biocompatible and always result in a foreign body reaction involving inflammatory response and fibrous encapsulation. Great efforts have, therefore, been made to develop synthetic strategies that tailor implant surfaces at the nanometric scale. The intention is to optimize the interaction at the tissue/implant interface thus improving quality of life for patients with enhanced results and shorter rehabilitation periods. This book deals with 'new bioceramics' for 'new applications'. Current and future applications are considered in terms of chemical composition, structure and properties. It explains the processes that (from the point of view of solid state and sol-gel chemistry) lead to better bone implants and other medical devices.
