David Peplinski is an author, speaker and blogger. He was a Gatorade Soccer Player of the Year, midfielder for the St. Louis University soccer team and the first athlete to start, play-in, and win 4 consecutive state championships in any sport at the prestigious Marquette University High School in Milwaukee, WI. He trained with the US Men's National program, was honored as Wisconsin's State Player of the Year, a member of ESPN's SportsCenter Top-50 Recruits entering college soccer, played with the Colorado Rapids in the MLS, and has been speaking to students, student-athletes, coaches, parents, and businesses for over 10 years. While his life has been marked by incredible athletic successes, it has also been crippled with personal adversity and addiction. Peplinski uses his unique experiences to challenge, inspire, and encourage his generation to live relentlessly through the Word in this noisy world. David and his wife Emily, live in The Woodlands, Texas.

This beautifully illustrated, full-colour daily Advent companion explores the ancient biblical names and images for the coming Messiah familiar to most people from the hymn, ‘O come, O come Emmanuel’. Well-known writers offer a total of twenty-four reflections, one for each weekday of the four weeks of Advent. The writers each offer three reflections on one of the seven antiphons: O Wisdom, O Adonai, O Root of Jesse, O Key of David, O Morning Star, O King of the Nations, O Emmanuel. Lastly, there are three reflections on the Magnificat – Mary’s Song – which the antiphons have been heard alongside since at least the eighth century. Each day includes the text of the antiphon from Common Worship, a Scripture reading exploring its biblical roots, paintings of the antiphon as a focus for meditation, a reflection, a challenge to ponder and an Advent prayer. The volume also includes an introduction explaining the rich history of the antiphons, recommendations for further resources including musical settings as well as suggestions for how to use the antiphons in local worship and study groups.
Matthias James O'Conway (1766-1842) was born in Ireland but lived all his adult life in the New World. His travels ranged from the Northwest Wilderness of the Ohio Frontier to the Spanish possessions of Cuba and Louisiana. He eventually settled in Philadelphia, then the United States capital. O'Conway made his living as a translator and teacher of languages and left a number of important publications and manuscripts in philology and lexicography. He was an influential member of the Catholic community in the early United States, being an early supporter of Elizabeth Seton, first United States citizen to be canonized. O'Conway had a large family, several of whom had interesting lives in their own light. This account of O'Conway provides a new perspective on Irish emigrants in the early years of the American Republic.
