Our firefly friends are disappearing ... Many of us have wonderful childhood memories of catching fireflies on warm summer evenings. They lit up our backyards like a fireworks display and left us laughing with delight. There were so many fireflies gently gliding through the darkness, it was easy to catch them in glass jars and watch their lights magically blinking on and then off again before we let them go. Our children and grandchildren may not experience the magic and wonder of fireflies because they are disappearing from fields, lakes, marshes and forests all over the United States and around the world. If we don't do something to protect them, they may be gone forever. Researchers think that over development and light pollution are two main reasons for the decline in firefly populations. All fireflies, both male and female, flash their lights to communicate, attract mates, defend their territory and warn off predators. At night, light pollution from apartments, strip malls, housing developments and commercial buildings makes it difficult for fireflies to signal each other during mating season so fewer are born each year. We can help the fireflies by turning off outside lights at night. By doing this, they will be able to signal each other with flashes in the darkness and find mates to increase their populations. Over time, this simple act will help firefly populations across our country and the world to recover and allow future generations to experience the joy of fireflies, just as we did. To learn more about fireflies and light pollution, including ways to help your local community reduce the lighting it uses at night, visit FireFly.org, DarkSky.org and DarkSkyInitiative.org. We can save our dark skies and our fireflies so future generations can enjoy them

Reprinting, republishing and re-covering old books in new clothes is an established publishing practice. How are books that have fallen out of taste and favour resituated by publishers, and recognised by readers, as relevant and timely? This Element outlines three historical textures within British culture of the late 1970s and early 1980s – History, Remembrance and Heritage – that enabled Virago's reprint publishing to become a commercial and cultural success. With detailed archival case studies of the Virago Reprint Library, Testament of Youth and the Virago Modern Classics, it elaborates how reprints were profitable for the publisher and moved Virago's books - and the Virago brand name - from the periphery of culture to the centre. Throughout Virago's reprint publishing - and especially with the Modern Classics - the epistemic revelation that women writers were forgotten and could, therefore, be rediscovered, was repeated, again and again, and made culturally productive through the marketplace.

Breaking new ground in the debate about the relation of mind and body, David Armstrong's classic text - first published in 1968 - remains the most compelling and comprehensive statement of the view that the mind is material or physical. In the preface to this new edition, the author reflects on the book's impact and considers it in the light of subsequent developments. He also provides a bibliography of all the key writings to have appeared in the materialist debate.

This famous book was the first up-to-date survey of its field for a generation; even today, when work on early modern social history proliferates, it remains the only general economic history of the age. This second edition, substantially revised and expanded, is clear in outline, rich in detail, stressing continuity as well as change, balancing the glamour of privilege with the misery and privation of the poor, and dealing with the dark side of Tudor life -- vagabondage, starvation, superstition and cruelty -- as well as its heroic achievements.

The author has unraveled the fascinating history of Astronomy by the Maya before the arrival of Columbus, and it does a decent job. The focus is on interpreting the intricate, highly symbolic, artifacts left behind by them, as well as by the Aztec and the Inca. In addition, those of some North and South American tribes, especially when their symbols are related to ancient astronomy. The writer covers a breadth of scientific, astronomical and historical information making bold, but often plausible, interpretations. The author may take you places you've never even imagined.

Bruxism or "unconscious movement" can be a physiologic activity that it starts in the early period of the human life but it becomes a pathological situation when it produces muscle pain and/or excessive tooth wear or fracture and damages the stomatognatic system as severe malocclusion, degenerative joint conditions, periodontal tissue injury, disk derangement, headache, etc. Bruxism is characterized by grinding or clenching of the teeth. For approximately 50 years, bruxism has been advanced as a predominant factor in the onset or continuance of myofascial or muscle-pain-predominant temporomandibular disorders (tmds). [7, 8] Bruxism is the medical term used to describe the clenching and grinding of teeth. It may affect both children and adults and can be associated with a number of signs and symptoms. Temporomandibular Joint Clinical Considerations for Practice
This book reviews and discusses some of these approaches, and some of the controversies aroused by them in the hope that the dental profession will soon arrive at more effective, scientifically based treatments. Health professionals have dealt with temporomandibular disorders, a major cause of non-dental pain in the orofacial region, by developing a broad range of treatments, ranging from occlusal alteration to multidisciplinary care regimens. It is with this background that health practitioners have responded to their patients' needs by developing a broad range of treatments, often determined more by the specialty of the practitioner than by scientifically-based treatment. There are practitioners claiming successful outcomes from a diverse number of treatments ranging from education and behavioral counseling, use of medications, occlusal therapies, surgery and splints, to a combination of various treatments.
