"Cathy's Orchid - That Night, Next Morning and Next Afternoon" is one book from a continuing collection by David E. Stone entitled "The Photographic Series". Over the course of one evening, the next morning & afternoon, David E. Stone photographed his wife's orchid plant in their kitchen and resulting images are distinctly different due to the changing light of each part of the day. The works in this series are all unique photographs taken in rapid succession of the same image, so the resulting images are possibly different from each other due to minor shifts in composition or focus. Due to the focus on uniqueness, The Photographic Series books are not intended to replicate or catalog the series (as they rarely include all of the proofs) and since they are not the original images, the artist considers them to be curated surveys of images from the series and as such, are recontextualized by the pairings for the purposes of being a book.
David E. Lovewell was born in the English village of Shotesham, in the county of Norfolk, where he lived on his parents' farm until he began training for the Methodist ministry. In the 1960s he and his family relocated to Alberta. David was a minister first in Red Deer and then, for over 10 years, at St. Andrew s United in Calgary. In 1986 he and Patricia moved to Victoria BC, and David retired from the ministry in 1989. He and Patricia still live in Victoria today.
Africa's Booming Oil and Natural Gas Exploration and Production: National Security Implications for The United States and China

Two key long-term energy trends are shifting the strategic balance between the United States and China, the world's superpower rivals in the 21st century: first, a domestic boom in U.S. shale oil and gas is dramatically boosting America's energy security; second, the frenetic and successful search for hydrocarbons in Africa is making it an increasingly crucial element in China's energy diversification strategy. America's increasing energy security and China's increased dependence on energy imports from Africa and the Middle East until well past 2040 despite its own shale discoveries will make Beijing's own increasing energy insecurity be felt even more acutely, pushing the People's Liberation Army to accelerate adoption of a "two ocean" military strategy that includes an enduring presence in the Indian Ocean as well as the Pacific Ocean.

The U.S. Africa Command (AFRICOM), newest of the six U.S. Department of Defense geographical combatant commands (CCMDs), was created in 2007 amid great controversy in both Africa and the United States over its location and mission. Over the last 5 years, AFRICOM has matured greatly, overcoming much of the initial resistance from African stakeholders through careful public messaging, and addressing most U.S. interagency concerns about the Command's size and proper role within the U.S. national security/foreign policy community. This Letort Paper describes the geostrategic, operational, and intellectual changes that explain why AFRICOM was created, and debunks three myths about AFRICOM: that it was created to "exploit" Africa's oil and gas riches, "blocks" China's rise in Africa, and that France "opposes" AFRICOM. The author concludes by raising five issues important to AFRICOM's future: 1) allocated forces to carry out short-term training engagements in Africa;...

This book explains why some missionaries are being led to reject the missional models and many of the methodologies which are the most widely accepted by North American evangelical missionaries working in France. The author demonstrates that the evangelical Protestant missionaries' witness for Christ in Western Europe is often ineffective because their governing missional paradigm and their ministry methods, working in conjunction, tend to project a separatist image and isolate them from those they wish to influence for Christ. The author argues for the development of a missionary spirituality based upon the kenosis and an understanding of Christian unity based upon the perichoresis.
