Harold only wants to help when he tries turning around a canoe tied to a dock. But he miscalculates, embarking on an adventure that introduces him to New England lake culture. With a boisterous frog as a companion, Harold engages with animals above and below the surface, encounters boaters, and learns some watercraft skills. He also learns to confront challenges, and to recognize limits. Teamwork, compromise, and human compassion combine to make Harold's lake trip an entertaining and educational drama.Harold Leaps into Lake Winnie is set on New Hampshire's Lake Winnipesaukee, but the environment and the experiences depicted in the story relate to all New England lakes. While it delights and engages children, the book also promotes the qualities of responsibility, generosity and friendship. It warns against peer pressure and bad advice. Along the way, the story depicts animal habitats and animal relationships in the wild. While informing children, Harold Leaps into Lake Winnie captivates them with fast-moving, fun adventure.

Unable to ski down on his own, Harold accepts the help of Francine, a friendly and reassuring senior woman. Harold gains skiing skill while he sees the value of trust, courtesy, respect and gratitude, and he feels the pride of accomplishment.Harold Skis the Steeps is filled with fast-moving action and puzzling predicaments that keep children interested and eager for the next page. While it entertains them, the story also shows children the problems of peer pressure and bullying. It demonstrates how positive character traits and good social skills can help them overcome difficult challenges. The book shows the advantages of trust, friendship and cooperation between young and old. It also encourages outdoor activity for the fun, companionship and sense of achievement it can bring to a child.

A forest fire is simmering when Harold rushes into the trees. He is chasing a squirrel, trying to retrieve roller blades that the squirrel is wearing, which belong to a doll. Bumbling toward the fire, Harold gets some advice from a crow that perches above him. But ultimately the child must wait for fire fighters who arrive, and for his parents who correct him, to learn the appropriate ways to respond to a wildfire. Colorfully and dynamically illustrated, Harold Whips a Wildfire starts with an ordinary neighborhood activity, two children at play together outdoors. It moves to a lesson in good manners as Harold franticly races to recover his friend's toys. The story quickly turns to the big theme of wildfires and their effects. It gives a lesson in forest-animal habitat and wildfire danger, and it guides a child to the best response to a fire. While pleasing children with a playful, rollicking tale, the book illustrates neighborliness, and it shows responsibility in several ways, including care for the environment and respect for first responders. Harold Whips a Wildfire is the fourth book of New England outdoor adventures featuring big-hearted but mischievous Harold. Like all Harold books, it is part of the White Mountain Children's Adventure series.

This volume includes an unpublished manuscript and selected portions of five seminars by Harold Garfinkel – the founder of ethnomethodology – on the topic of practices in the natural sciences and mathematics. The volume provides a coherent and sustained account of his program for the study of ordinary and specialized social actions. Presenting broader theoretical and methodological initiatives, as well as discussions and summaries of exemplary studies of social phenomena within and beyond the sciences, this work dates to the period in the 1980s during which the field of Science and Technology Studies was taking shape, with ethnomethodological studies of scientific practice forming a major part of its development at the time. Aside from their historical importance, the manuscript and seminars present a distinctive perspective on the natural and social sciences that remains highly original and pertinent to research on science, social science, and everyday life today. Offering critical insights and proposals relating to developments in Ethnomethodology and Conversation Analysis, this volume will appeal to scholars of Sociology and Science and Technology Studies with interests in the work of Garfinkel. The Open Access version of this book, available at www.taylorfrancis.com, has been made available under a Creative Commons Attribution-Non Commercial-No Derivatives 4.0 license.

Harold Pinter provides an up-to-date analysis and reappraisal concerning the work of one of the most studied and performed dramatists in the world.Drawing extensively from The Harold Pinter Archive at the British Library as well as reviews and other critical materials, this book offers new insights into previously established views about his work. The book also analyses and reappraises specific key historical and contemporary productions, including a selection of Pinter’s most significant screenplays. In particular, this volume seeks to assess Pinter’s critical reputation and legacy since his death in 2008. These include his position as a political writer and political activist – from disassociation and neutrality on the subject until relatively late in his career when his drama sought to explicitly address questions of political dissent and torture by totalitarian regimes. The book revisits some familiar territories such as Pinter’s place as a British absurdist and the role memory plays in his work, but it also sets out to explore new territories such as Pinter’s changing attitudes towards gender in the light of #MeToo and queer politics and how in particular a play such as The Caretaker (1960) through several key productions has brought the issues of race into sharper focus.Part of the Routledge Modern and Contemporary Dramatist series, Harold Pinter provides an essential and accessible guide to the dramatists’ work.
