The Book Of Ian: Tales of a Boy's Wonderment, Longing, and Faith

This is a book of tales of a young boy growing up in the fifties. It begins, at the age of seven, in the dusty side yard of his Grandparent's home in rural North Carolina. It ends, at the age of eleven, on a white sandy beach in southern Alabama. The boy's name is Isaac Atticus Nightingale; he prefers to be called Ian. Ian's adventures show him the wonders of 'real' life where he learns from each incident. He sees what it takes in order to put food on the table. He learns the value of hard work as well as its necessity. And he learns the value of teamwork. From his family he is taught the necessary steps to reach any goal. These are; have faith in God, in himself, and in his family and friends; never give up on a mission; and work to be perfect in whatever task he chooses. His adventures also point out to him his 'longings' for something different in his current life. In this book, as he gets a little older, he puts to work what he has learned. He aches to fill the void in his life. Buoyed with his Faith in God, he sets out on a risky journey to do just that.Ian's experiences range from the humorous to the heartbreaking. He and his Grandfather chased a chicken down a street all the way to his Church. He fell out of a boat and off of a roof. He pitched a great baseball game and cheered as his best friend hit his first homer. He discovered the need for a time machine then learned he didn't really need it. He learned to fly and he didn't use a plane. And, he set off on a difficult mission to find his dad; even if it meant going all the way to Heaven to get God's help. He put to work his Faith and all that he had learned, but was it enough? The surprising answer is revealed in the end. The tales are inspired by things that actually took place. Some of them are real. Some of them are my imaginings; that doesn't mean they are not genuine. I might stretch the truth here and there but that's what makes it fun for me to write and for you to read.

Rhodesian Prime Minister Ian Smith The Debunking of a Myth

Fifty years ago Prime Minister Ian Douglas Smith and the Rhodesian Front party declared independence from Great Britain unilaterally. A decision which was viewed at that time as being both brave and foolish, it gave Rhodesians of all races seven years of peace and prosperity. Thereafter there followed a banker-financed terrorist war for an equivalent number of years. In 1980 Rhodesia became Zimbabwe and experienced twenty years of modest progress before plunging into an abyss, from which it is unlikely to emerge for a very long time. In the 1970s Rhodesia was the second most industrialised country in Africa, the bread basket of the central African region and possessed of one of the most highly educated and trained indigenous people in the less developed world. And then it all went wrong. This book explains the origins of this tragedy, the treachery of the British government, the behind the scenes treason of persons in high places and the insidious role played by Ian Smith in Rhodesia's demise, which has been to the long term detriment of all her people.

El Paso wasn't the Promised Land that Ian and his crew had hoped for but it wasn't a total bust either. The concept of a safe haven in today's world was a fool's errand at best. This was the consensus of their tiny band and to keep moving, their only salvation. While others waited in their pens the four from the private security company moved on taking on as many they could help, in hopes that they too would join the fight. Their journey was long and arduous but it was worth it... they hope. El Paso is where the final evidence that this is more than a simple lab experiment gone wrong. It was too focused with too many players who knew too much too early in the game causing assumptions to be made. Assumptions that gained strength with every step they took until the small troop was convinced that this was not just a simple virus of natural origins, America was under attack. For Which We Stand is a post-apocalyptic thriller that lends credence to the fears that many share. Is it possible? No one can say, Five Roads to Texas is but one of hundreds end of the world scenarios. We all know it's coming, how and when is the only question.

The Dark Secret of Ian's Peak
The Dark Secret of Ian's Peak: Book OneTo investigate Cave Death was the aim of James (age ten) and Josh in The Experiment. A discovery was made; they found an old scientific experiment from 1892 belonging to Professor Lynx. Upon starting the experiment, James received an electric shock, which gave him the power of Dream Reality. His dreams have included precognitive and retroactive visions. The accidental find turned out to be an experiment that enabled James to control his dream reality. A high school fire, Paul's (Josh's younger brother) abduction, and his parents' past were all part of the dreams. Is there a connection? Only time will tell. The Basement's beginning involved a man disappearing mysteriously from a hospital elevator in James's recent dream. James and his friends are racing against time to save a victim who is about to vanish. Soon, in the little town of Ian's Peak, James, who has Dream Reality powers, will uncover the truth. Yvonne, a hospital nurse, is the key to solving this mystery. According to James's dream, Ian's Peak settlement started in 1860. James suffered a major setback when he learned his friends had been abducted and sent back in time to 1860. Professor Lynx's journal revealed to James that a basement wormhole could transport him to the 19th century. He also discovered a beast inhabiting the basement. James understands precisely what needs to be done. To save the future, he must go to the basement, locate the wormhole, travel to 1860, rescue his friends, and eliminate Nurse Yvonne, the beast, and the basement itself.

When Hereford group Silence teamed up with songwriter Ian Hunter in 1969 to form a group that aimed to be a cross between Bob Dylan, the Rolling Stones and Procol Harum, they rapidly became one of Britain's most popular live acts, but a major hit single and album initially proved elusive. In 1972, disillusioned and exhausted, they split before being encouraged to reform by David Bowie and finding immediate chart success with a song he gave them, 'All the Young Dudes'. After two years of hits and internal conflicts Ian left and enjoyed a chequered solo career that has lasted to this day, initially in partnership with guitarist Mick Ronson until his death in 1993. The rest of the group subsequently shortened their name to Mott and then British Lions, the latter a collaboration with former Medicine Head front man John Fiddler, although they failed to re-establish themselves despite several solid months of touring on both sides of the Atlantic. As Ian wrote, 'Rock'n'roll's a loser's game'. They won, they lost, but during the 1970s released some inspired, highly individual music, that went on to inspire and be championed by several other acts, notably Queen, the Clash and Def Leppard.
An Analysis of Ian Kershaw's The "Hitler Myth"

Few historical problems are more baffling in retrospect than the conundrum of how Hitler was able to rise to power in Germany and then command the German people – many of whom had only marginal interest in or affiliation to Nazism – and the Nazi state. It took Ian Kershaw – author of the standard two-volume biography of Hitler – to provide a truly convincing solution to this problem. Kershaw's model blends theory – notably Max Weber's concept of ‘charismatic leadership’ – with new archival research into the development of the Hitler ‘cult’ from its origins in the 1920s to its collapse in the face of the harsh realities of the latter stages of World War II. Kershaw’s model also looks at dictatorship from an unusual angle: not from the top down, but from the bottom up, seeking to understand what ordinary Germans thought about their leader. Kershaw's broad approach is a problem-solving one. Most obviously, he actively interrogates his evidence, asking highly productive questions that lead him to fresh understandings and help generate solutions that are credibly rooted in the archives. Kershaw’s theories also have application elsewhere; the model set out in The ‘Hitler Myth’ has been used to analyse other charismatic leaders, including several from ideologically-opposed backgrounds.
