Ecological Agrarian

Ecological Agrarian

J.Bishop Grewell; Clay J. Landry; Gregory Conko

What do beer-swilling swine, predator-friendly sheep, and David Letterman have in common? They are all part of agriculture's first evolution in 10,000 years. As population growth levels off, production yields continue to grow and demands on agriculture change, the focus of agriculture is moving from just feeding a growing planet to feeding a planet with environmental concerns. Eco-entrepreneurs are taking advantage of the new business opportunities arising from these changes. Applying solutions from the creative to the mundane, they are greening both their pocketbooks and the vistas around them. In The Ecological Agrarian, J. Bishop Grewell and Clay Landry share stories of the numerous eco-entrepreneurs at work, the challenges they face, and the benefits they hope to reap. Beginning in 8500 B.C., Grewell and Landry provide a brief overview of how agriculture not only shaped history, but made written history and civilization even possible. From there, they explain how we are entering an unprecedented era where the race to feed the planet is no longer the lone driving force behind agriculture. That battle, they argue, has largely been won. A new age of agriculture presents new challenges and opportunities. Grewell and Landry document agriculture's response and then draw conclusions from successes and failures to determine what institutions best foster the entrepreneur's trailblazing agriculture's future.

Every Living Thing: Part Two - Jimmy Donovan

Every Living Thing: Part Two - Jimmy Donovan

Jimmy Donovan had always been told his father was a hero. The myth had been rooted next to him in utero by his mother. He drew sustenance from it; it emerged as his earliest companion when he drew his first breath. Now in middle age, Jimmy is facing many crises in his life. His marriage is in trouble, his estranged daughter cannot be located and his stepfather is in ill health. The remains of his real father, James Kirkpatrick, listed as MIA during the Korean Conflict in 1951, have never been found. In Part Two of "Every Living Thing," Jimmy must unravel the mystery of who his father really was - the hero he'd always been told he was or something different, something less? The stories Jimmy has heard about his father have become part of his coping strategy, ways to make his absence seem more bearable. It is difficult to know one's father for many reasons, but at least, in part because a son's imagination constructs various possibilities. Jimmy has evolved into a man used to having his way, one who has not always appreciated, or found meaning in the duties of his own responsibilities of parenting young daughters. He was happier to let their mother deal with the details. Now, Jimmy must decide if Carl Jung called it right: "what was great in the morning will be little at evening, and what in the morning was true will at evening become a lie."

This short story is a fable for any reader who likes a moral in their story and a twist for an ending. The style is similar to the fables of old. The characters are a mixture of birds, animals, and people. The characters show some of the less desirable character traits found in all species. The story holds moral lessons which we all need to remember. The ending is a bit of a surprise and based somewhat in the style of a fairy tales told by the Brothers Grimm.

This book examines how the United States government, through the lens of presidential leadership, has tried to come to grips with the many and complex issues pertaining to relations with Indigenous peoples, who occupied the land long before the Europeans arrived. The historical relationship between the US government and Native American communities reflects many of the core contradictions and difficulties the new nation faced as it tried to establish itself as a legitimate government and fend off rival European powers, including separation of powers, the role of Westward expansion and Manifest Destiny, and the relationship between diplomacy and war in the making of the United States. The authors’ analysis touches on all US presidents from George Washington to Donald Trump, with sections devoted to each president. Ultimately, they consider what historical and contemporary relations between the government and native peoples reveal about who we are and how we operate as a nation.

During the armed crisis in C te d'Ivoire since September 19, 2002, which resulted in the absence of all health structures in Bouak , the NGO CSAS did not collapse, although it was considerably affected. On the contrary, it has survived and has moved from psychosocial care to comprehensive care. This document is the result of the research we conducted over a three-month period (June, July and August). This work is a verification of the social science methodology learned during our three years of study. It is concretely the application of the sociological methodology to a social fact. Thus, the subject of this verification is entitled as follows: the fight against HIV/AIDS in a situation of armed crisis: the experience of the CSAS of Bouak .
