This book is a compelling reference guide for book clubs on the work of Joan Didion, with summaries of her major works and discussion questions. Reading Joan Didion is the ideal way to enter this extraordinary and versatile author's world—a world that counts among its citizens burned-out hippies, cynical and delusional players in the film and music scene, and even members of the Charles Manson family. In addition to looking closely at major works of fiction, Reading Joan Didion also focuses on Didion the essayist, critic, and founding member of the New Journalism Movement, which uses fiction-like narrative techniques to go deeper into subjects that traditional objective reporting allows. Also covered is the rich screenwriting partnership of Didion and husband John Gregory Dunne, and the overwhelming late-career success of The Year of Magical Thinking, written in the aftermath of Dunne's shocking death and completed just before the author's daughter also passed away unexpectedly.

Pathophysiology and Care Protocols for Nursing Management, An Issue of Nursing Clinics
Nursing is an evolving profession that requires continued knowledge updates in formulating a foundation for practice. In order to promote patient safety and satisfaction, it is imperative that nurses monitor publications and increase their knowledge base. Each patient is different; each care management situation requires an individualized plan of care. These require the nurse to develop a personal framework for practice that continually develops from this information. This mandates an evolving knowledge base which this edition will supply for nurses who work to deliver care that is research based and protocol driven. This issue of Nursing Clinics will be both timely and relevant as it will combine two clearly important topics for nurses in care management, pathophysiological updates as well as research based protocols that are important to continuity of validated evidence based care delivery. This will give nurses across organizations the opportunity to see care from a perspective of patient wholeness and not truncate care in order to address total components. With care reimbursement dependent on outcomes, it is important for the nurse to see care as a continuum and not finite. This issue will give nurses this perspective.

How do You Know it's God?

How do You Know it's God?

Lynn M. McChlery

SCM Press
2021
sidottu
Much of the conversation and concern of churches and of Christian individuals is centred around Christian discernment or knowing God’s leading in decision-making. The language we use around these moments is fluid, and often feels inadequate – ask someone how they ‘know’ what God might be saying in a given situation and they may well reach for the phrase ‘I just know’. In "How Do You Know it’s God?", Lynn McChlery draws on ethnographic research amongst those in different kinds of ‘discernment’ processes, along with theological, spiritural and psychological insights to try and understand this phenomenum of ‘insight’ – or ‘just knowing’. Challenging the perception that such intuition needs to be marginalised and removed from discernment conversations, McChlery suggests that instead intuition can and should be intentionally matured both individually and in communities; and that it can be verified, articulated and recorded in forms appropriate to its own mode of insight. It is a vital new contribution to the scholarship for all practical theologians researching ecclesiology, vocation, group dynamics in churches, and communal decision-making processes of any kind.
Interventions And Techniques

Interventions And Techniques

Open University Press

Interventions and Techniques focuses on specific techniques and interventions therapists use to produce change. This volume describes, defines, and demonstrates the clinical applications of these techniques throughout diverse approaches to treatment. Some schools of Psychotherapy do not claim to contain techniques, a claim which this book examines. However, all schools describe some contextual, communication, or interaction models that easily lend themselves to classifications of techniques or the intervention processes.Written in clear, concise language, Interventions and Techniques presents a thoughtful examination of the conceptual framework upon which psychotherapy is built. It will be of interest to students and practitioners in fields such as: clinical psychology, counselling, social work and psychotherapy.
