Equity Valuation and Negative Earnings

Equity Valuation and Negative Earnings

Ana Paula Matias Gama; Liliane Cristina Segura; Marco Antonio Figueiredo Milani Filho

Springer Verlag, Singapore
2016
sidottu
Building upon Feltham and Ohlson models, this book examines positive loss-earnings within the context of the dot.com bubble during the boom years of the late 1990s bull market. The strong demand for equity financing captured the imagination of investors from Europe and U.S. like never before. With a focus on U.S. Internet companies, the book explores both the birth and the death of the new economy, and how negative earnings and losses still garnered large investments and successful IPOs (Initial Public Offerings). As Internet based ventures and the digital economy keep attracting large amounts of equity financing, this book explains that there is something unique in the valuation and pricing of tech companies. The book was written for corporate financiers, capital market professionals, and academics to further their understanding of equity valuation and the effects of equity trading.

Dynamic Stochastic General Equilibrium Models

Dynamic Stochastic General Equilibrium Models

This textbook guides the student step-by-step in developing and solving a DSGE (Dynamic Stochastic General Equilibrium) model-not only from the technical and conceptual aspects but also through the simulation process of each model. Characterized by a learning-by-doing approach, the book is set apart from the extant textbooks in three ways. First, it performs all the algebra associated with each model, such as the calculation of steady-state and the log-linearization of the model. Second, each model developed has been generated in Dynare, and every chapter is accompanied by a set of codes (mod-files and m-files) that the reader can use to replicate the model developed in every chapter. Finally, the models considered are toy models in the closed and open economy, which allows the student to learn the basic lessons and understand the fundamental relationships of the variables. All of this prepares the student to deal with more complex models. This book is intended for advanced undergraduate or beginning graduate courses in economics, finance, or applied mathematics, as well as practitioners in central banks that use these models daily in the preparation of forecasts or simulations of aggregate variables.

This book provides a comprehensive survey on related work for radio link quality estimation, which covers the characteristics of low-power links, the fundamental concepts of link quality estimation in wireless sensor networks, a taxonomy of existing link quality estimators and their performance analysis. It then shows how link quality estimation can be used for designing protocols and mechanisms such as routing and hand-off. The final part is dedicated to radio interference estimation, generation and mitigation.

In a world where Gods still roam the land, warriors battle for years in the harsh Shadow Lands. They fight to the death to fulfill the prophecy that from this desolate place a Warrior King will rise to bring salvation to the Alliance. Out of the darkness and flames comes Xado, more demon than human. He is bestowed command of the Zengoya, the most advanced battle cruiser ever built. How long will Xado be a pawn in the Alliance's contrived game of religion and power? He will play along untill he can turn it to serve his needs. Meanwhile, the Vulta witches know the moment has come to break their chains of enslavement. Wuwei is biding her time to shatter the cosmos with the magic they have kept secret over millennia. As the Alliance seethes with upheaval, the Goddess Vul smiles. Though she is weakened from a lack of worship, she understands the real meaning of the prophecy. Finally, tomorrow is rushing into today - filled with all its coming conspiracies.
Collateralized Debt Obligations

Collateralized Debt Obligations

Enrico Marcantoni

Springer
2014
nidottu
The author focuses on a method to price Collateralized Debt Obligations (CDO) tranches. The original method is developed by Castagna, Mercurio and Mosconi in 2012. The Thesis provides an extension of the original work by generalizing the Gaussian dependence in terms of Copula functions. In particular the model is rewritten for the specific case of the Clayton copula. The method is applied to price the tranches of a CDX. By comparing the tranches prices, it is possible to notice that the Clayton approach leads to smaller equity and mezzanine tranches. The senior and super senior tranches levels are higher when the dependence is modeled by a Clayton copula.
Lewis Acid-Assisted Stereoselective Synthesis

Lewis Acid-Assisted Stereoselective Synthesis

Enrico Marcantoni

Springer Verlag GmbH
2023
sidottu
The practical aspects of Lewis acid-assisted stereoselective synthesis, basic principles of Lewis-acid catalysis, stereoisomerism, chemical selectivity and stereoselectivity are the focus of this work. It is aimed at organic-synthetic professionals employing stereoselective Lewis acid catalysts, who wish to increase their understanding and odds of successful outcomes. Intended for researchers, graduate-level or advanced undergrads with a thorough grasp of the fundamentals of synthetic organic chemistry. This is not a textbook thus the reader is freed from pedagogical restrictions. Various areas of Lewis acid catalysis and stereochemistry are selected for recent significant developments. The interplay of structure and reactivity within innovative mechanistic constructs is always involved, and mechanistic models are included when particularly valuable for understanding or predicting observed stereoselectivity. When a detailed mechanistic description is provided, the author has opted not to alter the proposal by the original investigator when no new data requiring its modification is available. The chapters are organized by concepts rather than reaction types.
