New York City, in the height of summer. Crime seems to have taken a holiday, and Detective Morgan O'Callaghan is bored, bored, bored. Paperwork is mating and multiplying on her desk, and even a jaywalker is starting to look good. Anything to get her out from behind her desk Enter Andrea Worthington, Charleston socialite and all-around rich girl, right down to the wealthy fianc . She's also the new Assistant District Attorney assigned to Morgan's precinct. Their first meeting is like two freight trains crashing head on. Then a high profile, career make-or-break murder case throws them together again. The investigation has barely begun when Andrea becomes the target of a nearly fatal hit-and-run. But was it really aimed at her? Can she and Morgan find the common ground they need to solve the case and stop the attacks, or are the gaps just too wide to bridge?
Lady Morgan's Italy

An Irish actor’s daughter, Sydney Owenson by dint of great charm and intelligence (as well as literary talent) not only became the wife of Sir Charles Morgan but a popular novelist and social critic in Regency and Early Victorian England. With her friends Byron and Shelley she shared a great love and interest in Italy. Her guide to Italy (ITALY, 1822) was a landmark of political empathy and understanding for a post Napoleonic Italy in the throes of repression. Persecution and obscurantist rule whether by Hapsburg, Papal or Bourbon auspices was described in depth. Her guide was wildly successful and used by generations of Anglophone visitors and pilgrims.Professor Badin discusses the importance of Morgan’s fiction and belletrism in developing empathy and interest in Italy’s sufferings and woes. She investigates Morgan’s Low Church Evangelistic pieties and her dislike of Papal power, privilege and practice. Comparisons both direct and indirect with Ireland and the Irish are discussed at length as are Morgan’s acute class sensibilities and prejudices as well as her Irish patriotism. Morgan’s role in the emergence of Italian Romanticism and her textual strategies in creating polyphonic texts (codes, illusions, refutations) are described at length.

Collected Early Poems of Robert Morgan
Robert Morgan's welcome Collected Early Poems presents in one volume the contents of his first four full-length books, which appeared in steady succession over the course of a decade. His remarkable debut, Zirconia Poems, was published by Lillabulero Press in 1969, when he was only twenty-four. A limited edition chapbook titled The Voice in the Crosshairs was brought out by the Angelfish Press in 1971; nearly all those poems (joined with many more) soon saw wider distribution as part of Red Owl, released by W. W. Norton in 1972. In 1976, LSU Press published Land Diving, which gathered the first poems Morgan wrote after starting what would become a fifty-year career teaching at Cornell University. L'Epervier Press issued Trunk & Thicket in 1978; its author was still only thirty-three, an age by which Walt Whitman, Robert Frost, and Wallace Stevens had yet to produce their first volumes. An emotive soprano, heartrending melodies about unrequited love, and a draped-over-the-piano persona made Helen Morgan (1902–1941) the original torch singer, but she was so much more. The versatile actress appeared on Broadway, in film, and on radio. In a number of stage revues, she danced, sang, and excelled in sketch comedy. She played Julie in Kern and Hammerstein's Broadway musical Show Boat (1927) and also starred in the duo's Sweet Adeline in 1929. That same year, Morgan appeared in Rouben Mamoulian's classic film Applause. When the Great Depression made theater roles scarce, she headed the CBS radio program Broadway Melodies and worked in the emerging medium of television. Yet Morgan's life was one of extremes. She earned a million dollars throughout her career but remained in constant debt. She was one of the most universally beloved people in her profession, but a stable romantic relationship eluded her until the very end of her life. She was a protofeminist who aided women facing unplanned pregnancies, yet she also sought respite in a man whose financial support would allow her to retire from the stage. Through it all, she battled alcoholism; brandy would eventually extinguish her flame in 1941. Helen Morgan: The Original Torch Singer and Ziegfeld's Last Star is the first biography of the gifted performer since 1974. Author Christopher Connelly utilizes interviews, newspaper articles, and family scrapbooks to present an honest and unflinching look at Morgan's life. Connelly's meticulous research addresses Morgan's troubled childhood, including her mother's six marriages, and the trauma of her stepfather's arrest and conviction for manslaughter in 1913. Also revealed are details regarding her early career in vaudeville and silent film, insights into the speakeasy and supper-club culture that served as a backdrop to Morgan's career, and accounts of her outstanding accomplishments, philanthropic actions, and enduring popularity. This gripping narrative presents the brief but brilliant life of a complex, talented, and iconic entertainer.

Brigadier General Basil Duke made it quite clear on page 300 of the 1906 edition of his "History of Morgan's Cavalry" that Brigadier General John Hunt Morgan started his Indiana-Ohio Raid in July 1863 with a pair of three inch Parrott Rifles and a pair of twelve pound howitzers. He also stated that the two Parrott Rifles were attached to the first brigade and the two twelve pound howitzers were attached to the second brigade. We will follow these four cannon, and the cannon General Morgan captured at Morvins Landing, Indiana, through the Indiana-Ohio Raid.
