Medical practices are swimming in data. Data flows into medical practices daily from practice management (PM) systems, electronic medical record (EMR) systems, accounting systems and many other sources. Too many practices extract only the bare minimum of data required to file claims and meet reporting obligations, without recognizing the value in the flood of data that passes through the practice. The book Better Data, Better Decisions: Using Business Intelligence in the Medical Practice demonstrates creative uses of data and reveals inexpensive data extrapolation tools, more efficient uses of data and inexpensive tools that will reduce operating costs.Medical practice managers at all levels can benefit from a greater understanding of the data management tools available. In fact, many of these tools are already present in your computer systems. Give your practice a competitive advantage by learning what data to use, how to mine it and how to organize and report it in order to make better business decisions.

What information do you need to see to drive growth and improve the bottom line in your practice? Identifying the right information to be delivered at the right time to the right people can be a game changer for the performance of medical practices.Business intelligence (BI) is not just a fancy name applied to the same old canned reports from disparate data sources. BI, when done correctly, drives practice performance. It delivers mission-critical data exactly when it is needed without manual sorting through pages and pages and columns and columns of data. True BI combines data from two or more discrete datasets to provide a more dimensional view of the data. For instance, combining upcoming appointments with historical clinical data or front desk collections with staffing data produces reports that can offer guidance to support real-time decisions and actions. This book is full of techniques to combine data to deliver actionable insights and drive performance that can be applied to each unique practice situation. The results lead to a more efficient, profitable, flexible, and responsive medical practice that delivers higher-quality patient care. This book will provide you with the strategies to: - Design more efficient staff models - Predict gaps in provider schedules - Track and diagnose common errors for denied claims - Optimize referral patterns - Track delinquent patient payment - Monitor Medicare quality codes - And much more

Every guy is looking for an edge, some way to get single women his age to notice him more than they do now. Unfortunately, most guys have absolutely no idea what kind of body automatically flips a girl's attraction switch. Nate Green does. Built for Show is the first fitness book to address young men on the prowl. It's not just written for them; it's written by one of them. Green, who's just twenty- three years old, is already a veteran fitness professional who's been quoted in Men's Health and Maximum Fitness magazines. Green offers four twelve- week workout programs, each with a seasonal theme. The fall and winter workouts add muscle size and strength that'll show even under layers of clothing. The spring and summer workouts burn fat and chisel the showpiece muscles--creating a lean, cut, beach-ready physique. But Built for Show is more than just a workout book. It also provides: - Realistic nutrition advice to feed the muscles and starve the fat without breaking the bank or spending hours in the kitchen - Tips on dressing right, looking the part, improving your social status, and settling into your new lifestyle - Quick ways to assess posture, with useful exercises to fix flaws and improve self- presentation, no matter the situation. The detailed programs include over fifty exercises, illustrated with over one hundred original photos. Neither a weight-loss guide nor a body- building manual, Built for Show instead reveals to guys exactly what they need to build the body they - and women - want. Read Nate Green's posts on the Penguin Blog.
In the summer of 1999, in the tiny west Texas town of Tulia, thirty-nine people, almost all of them black, were arrested and charged with dealing powdered cocaine. The operation, a federally-funded investigation performed in cooperation with the local authorities, was based on the work of one notoriously unreliable undercover officer. At trial, the prosecution relied almost solely on the uncorroborated, and contradictory, testimony of that officer, Tom Coleman. Despite the flimsiness of the evidence against them, virtually all of the defendants were convicted and given sentences as high as ninety-nine years. Tom Coleman was named a Texas Lawman of the Year for his work. Tulia is the story of this town, the bust, the trials, and the heroic legal battle that ultimately led to the reversal of the convictions in the summer of 2003. Laws have been changed in Texas as a result of the scandal, and the defendants have earned a measure of bittersweet redemption. But the story is much bigger than the tale of just one bust. As Tulia makes clear, these events are the latest chapter in a story with themes as old as the country itself. It is a gripping, marvellously well-told tale about injustice, race, poverty, hysteria, and desperation in rural America.
