As edgy as this book was for its time, it is the single best explanation of how to use the subconscious mind that I have ever seen. I do not say it lightly that this book is a must read for every student of the personal and spiritual journey. It is that good. It is short, to the point, incredibly practical, and yet handles the discussion of the divine aspects with reverence. Although the subconscious is more a Stage 6-9 subject (See the Cycle of Human Development in the book, Purna Asatti), It is a great read for anyone at any stage of their personal journey.I have added notes to the end of each chapter to explain certain ideas in more depth and to compare the ideas here to ideas you may have seen in other works from Joe Dispenza to Esther Hicks, and even the ancient philosopher Hermes.I am excited to share this book with you, and to have it be a part of your journey. May you find the answers you have been seeking. Soccer Mom in Galilee

Soccer Mom in Galilee

A unique, absorbing journey in time crafted by a USA-Today bestselling novelist and a New Testament scholar.Rachel did everything right. But no matter where she was, she had the feeling she was supposed to be someplace else...When an agnostic suburban soccer mom lies down with a migraine, the last thing she expects is to wake up in a dusty, smelly courtyard in first-century Galilee. Befuddled, shocked, and -- as a woman without family traveling alone -- in fear for her very life, Rachel is grateful to be taken in by two wealthy women on a mission: the financial support of a charismatic rabbi from Nazareth. Jesus is a real up-and-comer, the women insist, with a knack for motivational speaking. You'll love him But Rachel has never been "a believer." And even if she were, the swarthy, robust, and greasy-haired man to which she is introduced hardly strikes her as deity material. Then again... sometimes, she isn't so sure.Based on both scholarly depictions of Jesus of Nazareth and research into daily life in the first century, we see through Rachel's account a fresh, earthy, and wholly pragmatic portrait of the historical Jesus. We see the rabbi not as the gospel writers chose to present him, but as he might have appeared to the little-known women who bankrolled his travels and to the disciples' wives who seasoned his stew. As Rachel experiences the resiliency and raw courage of these women, unsung and unrecorded by history, she is forced to wonder whether it is her own frenetic, perfectionist life that is the fairy tale.Rachel Stackhouse, a former veterinarian, childbirth educator, and mother of three who under another pen name is a USA-Today bestselling author of mystery and romantic fiction, invites the reader to spy on one woman's vision of the events of first-century Galilee, and to wonder what might have been...Rev. Peter C. de Vries, a graduate of Princeton Theological Seminary, earned his Ph.D. in Religious Studies at the University of Pittsburgh with a focus on the theory of Biblical interpretation. In addition to teaching New Testament exegesis at Pittsburgh Theological Seminary, training church leaders in Ghana, and holding regional and national leadership positions in the Presbyterian Church, he has served as a Presbyterian pastor for over thirty years in rural southwestern Pennsylvania.

The second edition of From Dust to Ashes brings up-to-date this classic text investigating the replacement of burial by cremation in England and Wales. Cremation was promoted seriously in 1874 but the first cremation did not take place until eleven years later. The response by the public was cautious. Despite the provision of crematoria, by 1939, less than 4 percent of deaths were followed by cremation. The Second World War and the immediate post-war welfare state period brought drastic change to the extent that by 1967 the number of cremations first exceeded burials. Today, the proportion is just over 80 per cent. The final chapter addresses the enormous changes in the last twenty-five years in the disposal of our dead This book discusses the activities of the Cremation Society, the establishment of early crematoria, and the promotion of cremation against the background of social and economic change before outlining the reasons why bereaved families chose to accept it and, finally, the social, economic and religious pressures that facilitated its adoption. The book will therefore be of use to scholars of death studies, anthropology, sociology, health and medicine and church history, as well as members of the funeral professions.

What is real? What is the foundation of right and wrong? How can we know? There are many ways to answer these questions--Western religious views in which humanity is part of God's creation, Eastern religious views in which delusion traps humanity in a cycle of reincarnation, and secular views in which humanity evolved as part of the material universe driven by nothing other than the impersonal forces of evolution. Each of these views paints unique and comprehensive pictures of the world to convey their vision. These pictures are as different from each other as if they were of three different lands separated from each other by patrolled borders. The border between Eastern and Western religions is guarded by arguments over the nature of the divine and rational versus experiential approaches to salvation. Both of these territories are separated from the land of scientific atheists who deny the existence of any supernatural reality and see the scientific method as the sole valid arbiter of truth. This book presents all three views for non-specialists, enabling readers to enter them imaginatively. It then compares these approaches on different contemporary topics. This book is for anyone who wonders why people believe what they do. ""This refreshing book combines intellectual rigor with a generous openness to other ways of seeing reality. These two Catholic theologians are firmly rooted in their own tradition, but eager to learn from others even when there is profound disagreement. In a world which people with different views are often dismissed, this book is a model of how intelligent conversation can take place. In our intolerant world, it is much to be welcomed."" --Timothy Radcliffe, OP, former Master of the Dominican Order ""The most interesting questions for any worldview can only arise when it is juxtaposed with another, very different worldview. This book raises incredibly rich questions for Christians, Buddhists, and naturalistic atheists to ponder, that could only have come from an encounter with each other; questions that will challenge and profoundly inform readers, no matter what their worldviews."" --John Makransky, Boston College ""A Catholic monk (Aquinas), a Tibetan monk (Tsongkhapa), and an atheist (S. Pinker) walk into a bar--and have a surprisingly frank and fruitful conversation. That's what happens in this book. It represents comparative theology/philosophy at its boldest."" --Paul F. Knitter, Union Theological Seminary. Scott Steinkerchner, OP, is a traveling preacher and a theology professor based in Minneapolis, Minnesota. His previous books are Beyond Agreement (2011) and Watching Clouds (2009). Peter Hunter, OP, teaches philosophy at Blackfriars, Oxford, England. Both are members of the Order of Preachers.
